“The Belmont English Department is a very special home away from home. I have been challenged by rigorous course material and classes as I expand my knowledge regarding literature, rhetoric, and different forms of writing, while also pursuing an English-specific internship opportunity here in Nashville. At the same time, I have been cared for by professors who take the time to get to know me outside of the classroom. They bring baked goods to class, invite my class to their home, and genuinely care for each and every one of their students and their career aspirations. I cannot think of a better environment in which to grow and to explore my passions during these formative college years.”

N U N D I H A L L -T R AV I S Communication Studies | Corporate Human Resources Representative, Dollar General
“Belmont’s College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences prepared me for my career by offering a well-rounded curriculum that helped me build skills that every employer is looking for. Throughout my interview process for jobs I had applied to during my last semester, I was consistently complimented on my confidence, competencies, and communication skills that I had gained during my time in my major courses. I can confidently say that I am still utilizing specific skills from several of my classes two years and two promotions into my career.”
K AT E T U L LY E L L S W O R T H English | Executive Editor, Commerce Reviewed/USA Today
“I work in journalism, and critical thinking skills are essential for brainstorming article topics, asking the right questions during interviews, and crafting a narrative that’s both accurate and resonant with our readers. So many things shape how I need to assign, write, and edit stories—all things I learned how to see in English classes, like how to take into account the audience, the social context, reader intentions vs. author intentions, language, etc. As an editor, I’m also responsible for making sure others on my team are honing and flexing their critical thinking skills, too. Without peer editing experience or class feedback sessions, I’d never feel comfortable being that honest with other writers.”
R YA N P I N O Asian Studies | PhD Student, Harvard University
“It would be difficult to overstate how much the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences – and especially its phenomenal Asian Studies program — helped prepare me for the China-related professional and academic trajectory I’ve followed since graduation. Following my time at Belmont, I pursued graduate studies in Shanghai working in a cross-cultural capacity for the dynamic Chinese startup that would unicorn into today’s TikTok. I then transitioned to divinity school at Yale and now a PhD program at Harvard with a focus on Chinese religions. These opportunities simply would not have been available to me without the solid foundation laid in my time at Belmont. Beyond being brilliant scholars and teachers, what stands out the most about CLASS faculty is that they truly care about each and every student’s intellectual growth, spiritual well-being, and future success.”

ADDISON STEIN Philosophy
“The Philosophy Department is an incredible learning environment that is dedicated to creating academic, inquisitive, and prepared young philosophers. The variety of courses offered combined with the specializations and experience of the faculty provides a complete and engaging program that has made me not only a better philosopher but overall student. Ultimately, your professors know and care about you as an individual and use your personal interests and aspirations to relate material, motivate you towards success and make you feel a part of a community. I’m so grateful for my experience with the department. It has introduced me to new ideas and career opportunities that I didn’t even know were possible and has pushed me to be the best that I can be inside and outside the classroom.”
KEIDRON TURNER Politics and Public Law
“The Political Science Department is quite frankly an awesome program to be a part of here at Belmont! Political science courses stand apart from the average classroom setting by allowing students to socratically discuss challenging political concepts with fellow classmates on a regular basis. This teaching style gives each and every student a deeper interest and connection to the material that a simple reading of the text can’t provide. To add to this, each professor’s immense connection to the political/legal community provides countless opportunities for students to partake in, from working within the state capitol to traveling to Washington D.C.! I promise you will feel right at home here in the poli sci family!”
GRACE CLELAND French
“The Foreign Language Department has a plethora of professors who provide rigorous, immersive and adaptable programs. Whether you are studying a language for a minor, pursing a major or simply taking a language for another degree, this department will fulfill and surpass any students’ expectations. The professors create a safe community for language driven students to practice and enhance their skills. It is a place where any and all students are welcomed and supported to do their best. Your professors know and understand students and are willing to make languages work for everyone.”
