SENSE AND SENSIBILITY by Kate Hamill* A playful new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters—sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne—after their father’s sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Set in gossipy late 18th-century England, with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth and bold theatricality. Black Box Theater February 9, 10, 14, & 16 at 7:30 p.m. February 10, 11, 17 & 18 at 2 p.m. * Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for faculty, staff, alumni and non-Belmont students, and free for Belmont Students.
THESE SHINING LIVES by Melanie Marnich* Based on the true story of four women who worked in a watch factory, the play dramatizes the danger women faced in the workforce in the 1920s. Catherine and her friends are dying, but theirs is a story of survival as they refuse to allow the company that stole their health to kill their spirits or endanger the lives of those who come after them. Troutt Theater February 16, 18, 22, 23 & 24 at 7:30 p.m. February 17, 18, & 25 at 2 p.m. * Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for faculty, staff, alumni and non-Belmont students, and free for Belmont students.
THE BELMONT REPERTORY THEATRE An hour long show designed for elementary-aged students featuring three famous folktales with foolish and wise characters from around the world. Black Box Theatre Saturday, March 17 at 2 p.m. Free Public Performance
MEN ON BOATS by Jaclyn Backhaus* Ten explorers. Four boats. One Grand Canyon. The true(ish) history of John Wesley Powell’s 1869 expedition, when a one-armed captain and a crew of insane yet loyal volunteers set out to chart the course of the Green and Colorado Rivers. Black Box Theater April 13,14,19, 20 & 22 at 7:30 p.m. April 14, 15, & 21 at 2 p.m. * Adult tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door; faculty, staff, senior citizens, non-Belmont students are $15 at the door; Belmont students are free on April 8, 9 & 22 (2 p.m. only) and on April 20 (7:30 p.m.).
MIXED BILL XIV* Fourteenth annual dance production featuring the Belmont University Dance Company and highlighting choreography by Belmont faculty and students. * Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for faculty, staff, alumni and non-Belmont students, and free for Belmont Students.
Troutt Theater April 13, 14 & 15 at 7:30 p.m.
