How to Recycle in Residence

Alder House

Please help us reach our goal of keeping 50 per cent of UAlberta’s waste out of the landfill by the end of 2015.

What can I recycle and compost? In Alder House, you can recycle beverage containers, paper, cardboard, glass, light metals, plastics and you can compost organics.

How can I recycle and compost correctly? The key to success is sorting—separating the recyclables out from your waste and placing items in the right bins. Containers and bags for recyclables, organics, and landfill waste are provided in your kitchens and lounges. • Blue for recyclables • Green for organics • Black for landfill waste Recyclables must be emptied and rinsed. All recyclables (beverage containers, paper, cardboard, glass, light metals and plastics) can be mixed together. Once these common containers are full, you and your fellow housemates are responsible for emptying them into the outdoor bins in the back alley.

Where are the bins located? Bins are located outdoors in the alley behind Alder House and Linden House. There is a large blue recycling bin, a small green rolling cart for organics, and a large green landfill bin.
