“A conference run by youth, for the youth of today to participate in, and for the youth of tomorrow to benefit from, MUNISH is the embodiment of Model United Nations. It is an admirable opportunity to draw together conscientious, committed young citizens of the world to engage in the exchange of inspiring ideas. An eclectic and international mix of Delegates, Students Officers, Press Officers, and Advisors congregate at MUNISH for a weekend jam-packed with debate, hard work and fun. The theme of this year’s conference is: “21st Century Innovation”. Innovation sits at the heart of our human development. Humans continue to evolve and with our natural inclination toward the pursuit of knowledge, we can put an end to issues that plague society today. By placing ourselves within the MUN sphere we can identify all the different aspects that the world is reliant on to create a better future. The list of issues will fairly echo the important and relevance of this theme to today’s society. ”

GENERAL INFORMATION

Approval Panel System

1. Delegates bring printed draft resolutions to the conference. These are lobbied /merged for improvement using either their own or school computers. 2. Main submitters find 10 co-submitters in support of the resolution. The resolution is edited by the student officers, corrected on computer and submitted to Online Approval Panel via www.munish.nl/approval

(For information regarding the use of the approval panel see www.munish.nl/howto)

3. The Approval Panel then either accepts or rejects the resolution:

a. If the resolution is rejected, it is returned to the main submitter to edit. The main submitter then returns the

resolution to the student officers who submits it the approval panel.

b. If the resolution is accepted, it is returned to the student officers and photocopied for debate

Badges It is very important that you wear your badge in a visible place at all times. If you lose your badge, you will need to purchase a new one at reception. Please do not deface the badges or change anything on them. If there is a mistake regarding your badge, whether it is your name, committee, school or delegation, the reception will be able to change that for you.

Housing Delegates being housed are expected to follow all house rules of the host family they have been assigned to. This includes curfews, meal times and basic manners. You have been assigned hosting families based on age and special needs and we will not allow for changes in these arrangements.

Ceremonies This year there will be an opening as well as a closing ceremony. Due to limited seating we would like to notify you that not all delegates will be guaranteed a seat in the theatre. The tickets will be distributed to MUN directors accordingly and they will redistribute them to the delegates. This year is the 21st anniversary of MUNISH. The BOD wants to celebrate this by inviting all participants to join us on the plaza for a special surprise from 17:30 till 18:30 on Friday.

Lunch Lunch is free for all delegates on Saturday and Sunday as it is included in the participation fee, but delegates can only be given lunch upon showing a lunch ticket and their badge. Delegates will receive their lunch ticket from their MUN Director. Other items may be purchased separately from the canteen at the prices stated there. Â

Party The MUNISH party will take place from 20:30-23:30 on Saturday 5th November, held at the Club 7 in The Hague. Delegates must bring their badge, ticket and a official identification to the party (check disclaimer on party ticket) otherwise they will not be allowed in. If the delegate is over 16 years of age and has been given permission by their MUN director, they will be given a wristband by their MUN director and thus be allowed to drink alcoholic beverages. REGULATIONS & PROCEDURE Attendance

The student officers will be taking attendance at various times throughout the day to ensure delegates are present for debate. It is important that you are on time and adhere to all instructions given by your student officer about when breaks end and what time to be present in the mornings. Any late or absent students will be reported to their MUN Director and if there is a reoccurring issue, measures will be taken. If you know you will be late or absent for any particular reason, please inform your student officers.

Dress Code MUNISH follows a similar dress code to other MUN conferences. All delegates should dress appropriately. Males should be in suits with jackets and ties, and must remain in the jacket while speaking. Females should be in skirts of reasonable length or smart pants. Footwear should also match the occasion and shirts should be appropriate and formal. Females are not required to wear a jacket and it is strongly advised not to wear shiny clothes or jewelry for any gender. Though colours are accepted, black and white for shirts, skirts, pants and suits are preferred.

Flags and Placards Each delegation will receive a placard in the theatre where the opening and closing ceremonies take place along with a General Assembly committee. Please do not deface, damage or lose the placards. If a delegate is found to have written on, defaced or lost a placard, the delegate will thus need to pay for a replacement and will be reported to the appropriate MUN Director. Paper placards should be kept with the delegate throughout the conference and should not be lost. You are not allowed to write on these or colour them in; MUNISH being a sustainable conference will reuse these.

Debate Procedures MUNISH is affiliated to The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN). It is therefore conducted according to THIMUN by-law and procedural rules, available in the THIMUN Instructional Guide (www.thimun.org).

Mobile Phones and Electronics Mobile phones should be turned off or set on silent during the duration of debate. In the event a phone goes off in a committee, the student officers will confiscate it. Delegates should respect the delegate that is speaking and should therefore turn off all electronic devices, especially MP3s, iPods and other music devices. Laptops are allowed during lobbying, but should be turned off during debate. If you are found using an electronic device or mobile phone and are asked to switch it off by the student officers or administrative staff, please do so.

Alcoholic Beverages Consumption of alcoholic beverages is legal in The Netherlands for anyone over the age of 16. There will be no drinking alcoholic beverages on campus. If a student is found to be under the influence of alcohol during the conference, they will be reported to their MUN director and suitable punishment will follow. Drinks will be available for those over 16 who have the consent of their MUN director, at the MUNISH party. However, we remind delegates that the consumption of alcoholic beverages can lead to the portrayal of a negative image of the school and the conference. We ask all delegates to be responsible when it comes to drinking.

Drugs and Other Illegal Substances Drugs will not be tolerated on the ISH campus. Any student found under the influence of drugs will be asked to leave the conference immediately. There will be no drug or substance use at the MUNISH party and any delegate found using drugs will be asked to leave immediately. Should you notice a delegate using drugs or being under their influence, please report this immediately.

Smoking ISH is a smoke free campus and there is no smoking on campus for any reason. Smoking is allowed off campus and students may smoke during their breaks if they are past the bridge outside the gates. Smokers should not block the pathway to enter the school and are requested to stand on the left hand side of the school campus entrance.

Security Seeing as there are hundreds of delegates, staff members, MUN Directors and other personnel at MUNISH, security is vitally important. If at anytime you are asked to show your badge, please do so. The administrative staff will be checking badges as you enter and leave a committee. Delegates are not allowed to wander from committee to committee unless accompanied by a member of staff or a MUN director. As long as we have your full cooperation, the conference and all the security that goes along with it, should run smoothly.

Emergencies In the unlikely event of an emergency, please follow the instructions on the intercom system. In the event of a fire emergency please follow the instructions of the fire alarm and file outside the building. In the event of a medical emergency, please dial 112 and send the administrative staff to reception. Â

Some will speech at the opening ceremony or open workshops and others will be for individual committees. Delegations are asked to attend all committee talks and are strongly advised to take part in workshops. ROOM ALLOCATIONS

Computer Lab

The computer labs will be open whole of Friday and from 09:00 - 11:00 on Saturday, these are solely to be used for delegates to research, rewrite, merge and submit resolutions. They are situated at the far end of the A-wing on the 2nd floor. The login and password for MUN delegates will be posted in the area. Printing will be only allowed for final resolutions at a maximum of two copies. There will be no eating or drinking in the computer lab. Administrative staff will watch the computer lab and any damage to the computers will be noticed and reported. A technician will also be available to fix any issues with the computers or printer.

Cloak Room The cloakroom will be open during all hours of the conference. It will be located on the main floor (1st floor) in one of the common rooms, across from the luggage room. It will be free to hold jackets and coats. We advice you not to leave valuable items in the cloakroom, even if it will be watched by administrative staff. Upon leaving an item at the cloakroom, you will receive a ticket with a number. It is vital that you do not lose this ticket; otherwise we cannot ensure we will be able to return your item. ISH will not be held responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged property held in the cloakroom.

Luggage Room The Luggage room will be open on Friday from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 17:30 to 19:00. It will also be open on Sunday from 08:30 to 10:00 and from 17:30 to 18:30. During the day there will be no access to the Luggage room unless the MUN director has contacted one of the conference managers for special access due to late arrivals or early departures. The Luggage room is reserved only for those that have come with over-night bags; laptop bags and purses will not be accepted.

GLOBAL CONFERENCE

MUNISH, being one of the largest conferences in The Netherlands, has always strived to cater for a mind-broadening, international atmosphere where solving global issues leaves the confines of articles and documents and is introduced to adolescents. With students coming from all over The Netherlands, various areas of Europe and a select few countries outside of the E.U, we have tried to bring to life and implement the essence of our conference to the fullest extent. This year we have been working closely with our school’s Global Issues Network (GIN), led by Mr. van Vliet, to make MUNISH 2011 as sustainable a conference as possible. The Global Issues Network, GIN at the International school of the Hague aims to make a global difference locally. There are many focuses within the Global Issues network; •
