QUALITY & WARRANTY
The result of more than 80 years of knowhow, the REMAN range offers a marketleading level of quality. Once overhauled, our products have levels of performance and durability identical to those of new parts. During the overhauling process, any parts not meeting the most recent technical standards are replaced with new original components. Each major component is tested at the end of the assembly line to ensure that its quality specification is identical to that of a new equivalent part. Finally, all of our REMAN products benefit from a 2-year warranty*, the same as our new original parts.

The REMAN industrial process
Benefit from our technical experts knowledge
Remanufacturing is an industrial process. Each overhauling step has been standardised and calibrated upstream by our engineers to ensure that each Remanufactured product reaches an equivalent quality level, regardless of the original condition of the core.
STEP 2: DISASSEMBLY
The cores are dismantled completely using specific tooling to save the maximum number of components.
STEP 1: RECEIVING THE CORES
The cores are received and stored at the manufacturing plant, until they are used on the remanufacturing lines.
STEP 3: CLEANING AND STRIPPING
Prior to reuse, all components must be free from grease and contaminant residue. Depending on the type of component, multiple successive steps may be involved: industrial cleaning, baking, sand blasting, etc. The components are then practically identical in appearance to new ones.

STEP 4: INSPECTION AND SORTING
Three types of components are set aside during inspection: non-operational components, components with excessive wear and components whose design no longer complies with the latest technological standards. Depending on the type of component, the inspection may be visual or more in-depth (leak testing, checking for cracks, etc.). This means that we can be certain that our products perform at their original level.
STEP 5: RECONDITIONING OF COMPONENTS
Some worn parts that may still be operational are then reconditioned. For example, cylinder heads and crankshafts are machined and processed to meet original part specifications, according to the tolerances listed in the strict specifications document.
STEP 6: REASSEMBLY
Products may then be reassembled. All components set aside during the sorting step are replaced with new original parts. Although the reassembly lines are sometimes specific to REMAN, the tooling, manufacturing methods and torque tightening values are strictly identical to those of new original parts.
STEP 7: FINAL TESTING AND QUALITY CHECK
In order to have the same warranty coverage as a new original part, all REMAN parts are tested on a line-end test bench, applying a cycle that simulates extreme operating conditions. The product may sometimes receive a final finish (e.g.: painting engines) before being sent to one of our spare parts stores.

Remanufacturing Renault Trucks products is not a trivial matter. In addition to access to original components, it requires a comprehensive knowledge of the various technological developments applied to the product in standard production and investment in expensive manufacturing tooling to guarantee performance levels identical to those of the new original part. Thanks to our own remanufacturing plants, Renault Trucks has full control over the manufacturing process end-to-end, which guarantees a quality level that is unparalleled on the market. Two Group assembly plants undertake Renault Trucks REMAN product remanufacturing:
2 - FLEN, SUÈDE.
The Flen plant, located approximately 150 km from Stockholm, has been remanufacturing engines and engine components since 1960. As the Group Center of Excellence, it focuses all of its activity around the heavy commercial range (T/C/K). Currently, the Flen facility has 230 employees and reconditions over 800 different types of engine in addition to other associated major components (cylinder heads, crankshafts, etc.).
1 - LIMOGES, FRANCE.
Operational since 2003, the knowledge base of the Limoges plant is founded in effect on over 80 years of history; its remanufacturing activity started just prior to the Second World War. It specialises in overhauling major mechanical components (engines, gearboxes, sub-assemblies) and aftertreatment (particulate filter, etc) for light commercial and heavy commercial vehicles. The use of ultra-modern industrial resources make it the leading European reconditioning site in terms of respect for the environment through its new and unique concepts: "zero liquid discharge", selective sorting of waste, reduction of atmospheric emissions.

Turbocharger
The role of the turbocharger is to increase the inlet gas pressure, which fills the cylinders more efficiently. As with the injection system and pistons, it is part of a complex system and contributes to improved combustion, ensuring maximum mobility and reduced fuel consumption and emissions.
All bearings and seals are systematically replaced using new parts. The tiniest imperfection on the turbine or shaft results in replacement with a new part.

Once it has been removed and cleaned, each engine component is rigorously tested by means of magnetic particle inspection (detection of cracks in the cylinder head, crankshaft and cylinder block and on test benches (air/water circuit, dimensions and geometry, performance and heat exchangers).
Main components (crank case, cylinder head, crankshaft, camshaft, connecting rod) are remachined depending on the repair dimensions defined by the Engineering Department. Wear components (cylinder liners, pistons, rings, bearings (connecting rods and crankshaft), injector tips, seals, hoses, collars, standard fasteners, valve cotters) are replaced with new original parts. These benefit from the most recent technical developments.

Each engine is tested on automated power benches for accurate measuring of the actual performance of the engine. Performance should be identical to that of a new engine.
Each engine is then painted and pre-packed for transport, accompanied by the warranty sheet and technical information.

Injector
The injector is one of the critical components of the engine. Its purpose is to atomise diesel fuel to a fine level (approximately one micron) inside the combustion chamber.
The reconditioning process consists in cleaning and replacing all defective components such as nozzles and seals. If there are damaged or burnt parts, the injectors are routinely scrapped.

Injection pump
The role of the injection pump is to pressurise the fuel for supplying the injectors.
Within the scope of the remanufacturing process, the seals and all wear components are routinely replaced. The pump body, roller and spring are inspected and replaced if they do not confirm with specifications. The output pressure is measured on a bench, the leak flow rate is checked and corresponds to the original specifications.

Flywheel
The flywheel is an intermediary part between the engine and the transmission; it transmits engine torque to the clutch and gearbox.
It is cleaned thoroughly as part of the REMAN process. Renault Trucks removes any oxidation from each component, inspects and replaces the crown wheel if necessary, and adjusts parallelism, perpendicularity and balance.

Concentric clutch actuator
The concentric clutch actuator is a declutching cylinder that replaces the conventional actuation mechanism that uses a selector fork and declutching servo. It is fitted only on vehicles equipped with an Optidriver gearbox.

Clutch valve unit (CVU)
The clutch valve unit (or CVU) has the purpose of controlling the clutch, through the pneumatic actuation of the clutch slave cylinder (CCA) according to the information communicated by the TECU. It is fitted only on vehicles equipped with an Optidriver gearbox.

Under our REMAN label, Renault Trucks is offering you an extensive range of gearboxes for heavy commercial vehicles (Optidriver, 6S, 6AS, 16S, 9S, etc.) and light commercial vehicles (PF6, PA0, PK6, etc.).
REPLACEMENT OF WEAR PARTS WITH NEW ORIGINAL PARTS
Wear parts like seals and gaskets are always replaced regardless of condition. Tolerances of all components are assessed and verified against the latest design specifications.
INDUSTRIAL ASSEMBLY TO ENSURE THAT THE ENVIRONMENT IS CLEAN AND PARTICLE-FREE
Our assembly operations and the parts we use are clean, which prevents particles from being introduced into the gearbox, which could shorten bearing service life, cause gear disengagement, oil leaks or clog oil flow.
DYNAMOMETER TESTING
There are more than 1200 inspection points on the standard exchange gearbox, which must fulfil the same performance criteria as those of a new gearbox.
UPGRADING TO THE LATEST SPECIFICATION
The product is under continual development. In standard exchange, Optidriver, the automated manual transmission from Renault Trucks, is always upgraded in accordance with the most recent technical specifications.
EXPERTISE AND PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE
Our assembly operations are carried out with access to all technical specifications, tools, and measuring equipment. Operatives can apply the expertise required to achieve the correct tightening torques and pre-setting tolerances of axles to avoid oil leakages and material breakages due to material stress.

ZOOM ON THE OPTIDRIVER OFFER
There is a choice of three different versions of Optidriver in the REMAN range:
Short version
In this version, the gearbox is supplied Fulle (excluding the retarder). It is the best solution for a quick and high-quality replacement.
In this version, the gearbox is supplied without its gearbox ECU (GCU), electro-pneumatic thrust bearing (CCA) or solenoid valve unit (CVU). It is the preferred choice if the gearbox has no electronic faults.
In this version, the gearbox is supplied as a basic version without its rear splitter. This is the most cost-effective solution, which allows you to replace only what is necessary.
Renault Trucks also provides a REMAN offer for the gearbox ECU (see p.45), the electro-pneumatic thrust bearing (see p.21) and the clutch valve unit (see p.21).

Differential carrier

Particulate filter
The particulate filter (DPF) is the most efficient technology for reducing particulate emissions. It makes it possible to reduce the pollution generated by the engines and eliminate carcinogenic particles that they emit. It is made from a ceramic material inserted into a metal case.
The DPF requires specific maintenance. This is because when burning off soot deposits, inorganic compounds (ash) accumulates inside and clogs it. It is therefore essential to perform maintenance on it. Stringent reconditioning specifications ensure the same quality, performance and durability as for a new DPF. The REMAN offer is the only reconditioning process approved by Renault Trucks.

Nox sensor
In the after-treatment system, the NOx sensors act as indicators, providing the ECM with information about the concentration of NOx in the exhaust. This information is used as the basis for dosing the reactive agent (AdBlue®) and regeneration of the DPF and SCR.

Egr cooler
The main objective of the EGR system is to cool the exhaust gases for redirecting them and mixing them with the intake air. This process reduces the combustion temperature and thus reduces the formation of NOx in the exhaust. The EGR cooler is cooled by the engine coolant and comprises a series of finned pipes which allow the exhaust gases to cool before they enter the mixing cylinder.

Air compressor
The compressor supplies the vehicle with compressed air, which is main used by the service brake but also by the air suspension, gear shift systems and for emissions reduction. The compressor has been designed to meet vehicle requirements and to fill the air supply system rapidly. Within the scope of the REMAN process, all wear and/or delicate parts (seals and gaskets, piston head, connecting rod big and little ends, piston rings, valves and fasteners) are systematically replaced with new original parts. An extensive test program is implemented routinely to ensure that the compressor is operating correctly.

Air production modulator (apm)
The APM prevents moisture, oil and contaminants from entering the air supply system borne by the air from the air compressor. It thus fulfils the quadruple function of managing compressed air production, ensuring that the air is dry, distributing the air to all of the vehicle pneumatic systems and protecting the circuits against leaks.
As part of their remanufacturing, the modulators are disassembled completely, inspected and tested. All parts are replaced with new original parts.
Reminder: To prolong the service life of the air dryer, the coalescing filter cartridge and the silencer must be replaced regularly

Brake shoe kit
The purpose of the brake shoes is to apply pressure to the inside of the brake drum, in order to slow the vehicle.
REMAN brake shoes are assembled industrially with special tooling. Riveting is performed at the correct pressure, thus preventing any risk of fracture. The brake lining is press-fitted perfectly onto its backing plate. A unit check of the press-fitting is carried out using feeler gauges.

Brake compensator and valve
The wear components on Renault Trucks REMAN brake compensators and valves (seals, springs and valves) are routinely replaced with new original components.
The pressure adjustments, which give the braking response times, are checked on a bench. This guarantees braking efficiency.

Alternator
A central component of the electrical system, the function of the alternator is to energise electrical components while the engine is running. It also recharges the battery. It is therefore essential to select an alternator whose specifications are a perfect match for the requirements of these different components.
Renault Trucks REMAN alternators have the same dimensions and tolerances as new models leaving the production line. Therefore, they are perfectly suited to the vehicle environment, minimizing drive belt wear and ensuring maximum cooling capacity of the fan, for example.
As part of the remanufacturing process for our alternators, Renault Trucks carries out 48 different operations on the stator, rotor, front and rear bearings, rectifier bridge, regulator, rear cover and fasteners. The components are assembled in accordance with an industrial process based on the recommendations of the Engineering Department. REMAN alternators are designed and adjusted to comply with the technical specifications of the electrical circuit on Renault Trucks vehicles.

Starter motor
The role of the starter motor is to start the engine, by converting electrical energy from the battery into mechanical energy and supplying it to the flywheel.
For the remanufacturing of REMAN Starter motors, Renault Trucks carries out 60 different operations on the starter pinion support bearing, the starter pinion, the intermediate bearing, the armature, the field coils, the commutator bearing, the contact switches and the fasteners. Components are assembled following an industrial process based on the recommendations of the Engineering Department. REMAN starter motors are sized and adjusted to match the electrical system technical specifications for the vehicles Renault Trucks. They turn over the engine perfectly because they provide the original torque value.

Gearbox ecu (GCU)
The gearbox ECU (GCU) controls the gear shifts on the Optidriver gearbox. It includes the TECU, sensors (incline, temperature, position, speed, air pressure) and the gear shift mechanism (insert diagram 06).
The Renault Trucks REMAN range comprises three offers:
- The full gearbox ECU (GCU)
- The TECU only
- The gear shift mechanism only
The GCUs are reconditioned at our Limoges facility. The gear shift mechanisms are dismantled completely and cleaned in a controlled environment (grey room) to avoid any risk of dust contamination.
Each wear component (seals, pins, cotters, etc.) is routinely replaced with a new original part. The TECUs are systematically upgraded to the latest quality versions. Finally, each GCU undergoes systematic testing at the end of the production line to check that the electrical circuit is working correctly and that the air system is leak-free.

Engine management system (EMS)
The EMS engine management ECU controls the entire engine fueling system (injection quantity and offset).

Tachograph
The tachograph records, stores, displays, prints, alerts and gathers data relating to the driver and the vehicle. It logs session connections and disconnections, as well as driver rest breaks. The tachograph also alerts the driver of excessive speed.

The air conditioning compressor is one of the main components of the air conditioning loop. It increases the refrigerant gas pressure and temperature to promote heat exchange at the condenser. It also circulates the gas within the circuit.

Intercooler
The intercooler is located opposite the radiator and decreases the intake air temperature. It thus ensures more efficient combustion and contributes to the reduction of NOx emissions, increases engine power output and reduces the stresses on pistons and valves.
All Renault Trucks REMAN intercoolers have an international 2-year warranty, unlimited mileage, if they are installed in a Renault Trucks workshop.
