WELCOME TO TOMSK! Tomsk is one of the oldest cities in Siberia. Just for you it’s a perfect place – there are about 100.000 students among 650.000 city residents, and most of them speaking English. There is a vast field of opportunities and you can get it!

Tomsk is full of parks. The biggest – Thunderbird park, is a perfect place for camp, sports and just rest after hard day. If you will be lucky, you may even feed the squirrel or a sparrow from your hand!

Of course, that’s not the full cultural and entertainment program. It’ll unfair to tell you about all places to visit and events to take part. But, we want to tell you a little secret. All interns are welcome to a great welcome party! Fun with us will never end, we promise you. Come to us, and you won’t regret!

About food There is no especial taste in food that we cook and eat, really. We like meat with vegetables, we like noodle and rice, we like potato and buckwheat. So we cook it at any possible way. For example, potato is fried or boiled most common, and the best meat with this is fried is sauce. Of course, you can boil potato first and next fry it, it will be very tasty, we promise you, but it will take more time, somebody doesn’t cook it often. Sometimes we cook pizza. We’ve got fruits and this is great. Tell you that most of us eat a lot of mandarins – small oranges – before the New Year and after it. That’s some kind of national tradition, but I can’t remember anything when it has begun and why. We just love food. But this is only introduction. Want to tell you about prices. Before it, you have to know about moneys. In the average 1$ equals 30 Russian Rubles, and 1 euro is 40 Rubles. Of course, it is changing from day to day, but in general, things are so. And here the average prices: Potato, 1 kg ------------------------------------------- 30p – 1$ Buckwheat, 1 kg ------------------------------------- 40p – 1.3$ Rice, 1 kg ---------------------------------------------- 40p – 1.3$ Chicken, 1 kg ----------------------------------------- 300p – 11.6$ Beef, 1 kg --------------------------------------------- 320p – 11.6$ Pork, 1 kg --------------------------------------------- 320p – 11.6$ Bread, 0.5 kg ----------------------------------------- 15p – 0.5$ Cheese, 1 kg ----------------------------------------- 200p – 7.6$ Mushrooms, 1 kg ----------------------------------- 90p – 3$ Sure, we can’t show you all the prices in all markets for all vegs/meat. So, if you want to know more about it, ask us, of, if you are here, your buddy. He/she would like to help. Why? Because cooking is fun.

About weather Tomsk is in the middle of Siberia, and you may imagine, that there is a lot of snow and bears. That’s a joke. Remarkably, we’ve got hot summer. Sometimes, hehe. No, really. The summer is really hot, unless it rains. To tell you the truth, air temperature can reach + 40 of Celsius in the shadow, but there are days, when it’s an about + 10. It’s very wet and rainy days, and usually with strong winds. So, if you want to join us during summer, don’t forget to take your windbreaker. What comes after the summer? Right, this is autumn. But there is our own, especially autumn. It lasts only for a month, from the middle of September till the middle of October. In the end of October there are starts to snow, because winter is coming. Winter is coming seriously and for long 5 months you can see lots of snow on the streets. During the winter it is really cold in Tomsk. Is -15 cold enough? I don’t want to disappoint you, but -15 is considered as warm weather. No, that’s not a joke. Not this time. -40 is really cold, especially with wind and humidity. Yes, you should take with you warm clothes – your sweaters, scarfs, gloves and other.

Here was an one intern from Colombia. She has wore 4 (sic!) sweaters, 2 scarfs, winter coat and still has felt cold. Don’t be afraid, this is a question of habit. We gladly lend you our sweaters, shoes, scarfs and other stuff. Just don’t freeze. And I should tell, this intern felt more comfortable after a week. The question of habit, isn’t it? Winter ends in April. Spring is like autumn, but backwards, so don’t forget your windbreaker and sweater. Just for case 

Just look at these happy faces! Some of peoples on the photo saw a snow just on the first time a few days ago. Is there anything that stops you to ride this Devil’s board? You’ll love it.

HOW CAN YOU COME TO TOMSK?
