New Student Staff Orientation September 12, 2012
The purpose of the Student Staff Orientation is to share with new student employees the history of the Oglesby Union and its contribution within the Division of Student Affairs. It is also meant to inform students about the various Union departments and their staff. The orientation is a great way to meet other new student employees, learn some advice from students who have been working in the Union for some time, and to learn what is expected from them in their work environment. The Fall 2012 Orientation was held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in Union Room 311B and was scheduled from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The orientation started later than expected due to technical difficulties with the projector. Over 30 students were expected to attend the orientation, but only 14 attended. The speakers for this orientation were two students that have been working at the Union for over a year. The food given at this event was Hungry Howie’s Pizza, with assorted soft drinks, totaling $80.72. After the PowerPoint presentation, students were given an Oglesby Union staff shirt along with their New Employee Handbook. What students thought and learned:
11 out of the 12 students thought that the orientation was useful. 5 of the students had learned that there is a 10% FSU Bookstore discount for employees. 2 students thought it was interesting to learn of the other departments and their duties. Demographics:

Please note that any information with “No Answer” charted means that students did not respond to that question on the survey. Suggestions for next year: Despite making the request on the phone, Hungry Howie’s did not bring plates, cups, and enough napkins when the pizza was dropped off initially. Since attendance was low, supervisors should encourage their student employees to attend the orientation. Also, the equipment should be checked beforehand so that there are no delays.
