"Shopping at The Dixie Department Store is still my favorite memory of Chickasha. My mother loved the store. I enjoyed shopping with her from early childhood for the latest outfit or just walking through to view the new items. Later mother and my daughter would shop there together. When The Dixie closed its doors in 1994, I purchased a pin and two decorative pillows which I still have. Otis Elevator made a scrapbook for the Dixie when it completed the installation of the elevator in 1964. While working at the Grady County Museum I discovered the scrapbook in the files. Three photos show two shoppers in the background. My mother and I were those two shoppers!"
