Linemen complete rescue training

Our linemen complete extensive training in order to safely do their jobs every day (and night!). They also have to be prepared for situations such as helping a fellow lineman who has suffered a medical emergency get down off a pole.

Like most of a lineman’s training, the best way to learn is to practice, so each year they are required to climb a pole and rescue a “dummy” that weighs about the same as an average man. They must safely lower the dummy to the ground so that “he” can receive medical attention.

In June, the annual training was monitored and presented by Jason Woods, Instructor from Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives Safety Training and Loss Prevention. It also included a rescue scenario from an elevated bucket on the truck and CPR refresher training.
Helping our employees prepare for the “worst case scenario” is just one part of our commitment to safety. We hope they never have to experience such a situation for real, but we are confident that they will be prepared if it does.
