In 1823, in a log schoolhouse about a half-mile from its current location, Solida Creek Missionary Baptist Church was established in South Point. Deeply rooted in southern Ohio history, the church was founded by John Lee, brother of General Robert E. Lee’s grandfather.

At the beginning of the Great Depression, the church erected a new building, where it held services for 42 years before it was struck by lighting and burned to the ground in 1972. The church held temporary services in another building on BREC lines at the top of Macedonia Hill, which later became a historical landmark. Due to an increase in the church’s attendance, construction began on the current building in the late 90s. Several retired men known as the “Old Codgers” worked on the building while the ladies of the church provided lunch for them. On July 11, 1999, the first church service was held in the new building, where services are still held today.

The legacy of Solida Baptist has been passed down through many generations. The church is celebrating 200 years in 2023, and would like to invite the community to the homecoming service on Sept. 24 to celebrate God’s blessings upon the church.
