CARDINAL POWER PLANT TOUR FOR URE MEMBERS

URE is excited to offer this unique opportunity to members who are interested in learning about what it takes to generate electricity. Members will get a tour of the best-in-class facility and learn all about how it’s been outfitted with state-of-the-art environmental controls.

The Cardinal Plant is located on the Ohio River in Brilliant, Ohio. Buckeye Power’s Cardinal Plant provides power to the 24 electric cooperatives in Ohio. The plant has invested millions of dollars into environmental upgrades — making it one of the cleanest coal-fired power plants.

The 2023 Cardinal Plant Tour is scheduled to take place Wednesday, Sept. 13. This scenic, one-day trip is free to URE members and includes an interesting and informative guided walking tour of the plant.

The bus will depart from URE’s office in Marysville at 7 a.m. SHARP and arrive back to the URE office at about 5 p.m.

Since the power plant can be a potentially hazardous area, tour participants must be at least 12 years old, unless specifically authorized. Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability Forms will need to be signed. There will be a considerable amount of walking, several flights of stairs, and going through some hot and dusty areas. Members with health concerns, those who require assistance walking, or those who cannot walk more than a half-mile without resting should not take the tour.

Weekend Concert Schedule

Kent joined URE in May as construction project manager. Kent had worked for a neighboring cooperative, Mid-Ohio Energy, for the past 21 1/2 years. He began as a lineworker, was promoted to crew leader, and, since 2001, has worked in right-of-way maintenance. His years of cooperative experience have allowed him to quickly transition to this position, which was open due to retirements and restructuring.

A graduate of Hardin Northern High School, he continued his education at Owens Community College, studying business administration while working at Graphic Packaging in Kenton.

Kent enjoys spending time with his wife, Bethany, and their five children: Connor, Parker, Grace, Max, and Abram. They all enjoy being outdoors – playing sports or hunting and fishing.
