Guernsey-Muskingum holds 85th annual meeting

About 525 people turned out for food, fellowship, prizes, and entertainment, and to hear reports on the financial condition and progress of their non-profit electric cooperative at the annual meeting on Saturday, April 1.

Members enjoyed entertainment provided by PanJGea and the John Glenn String Sounds, games, vendor displays, and food before hearing reports on the state of their cooperative and voting for directors.

Members re-elected Duane Parks and Ed Bay to an additional term on the board of directors, representing District 2 and 7, respectively, and elected Susan Harper to represent District 6.

GMEC Board President Matt Carpenter reported on outages and right-of-way clearing that occurred during 2022. Maureen Riley, secretary-treasurer, reported on the cooperative’s

financial status, including more than $1.3 MILLION returned to members in the form of capital credits. Brian Hill, general manager/CEO, spoke to members about current and future rates, grid reliability, continuous improvement of communications, and the future of automated metering infrastructure (AMI). During the business meeting, children were entertained by Magic Nate and each received a stuffed donkey at the end of the day. After the business meeting, door prizes and energy credits were awarded.
