for Youth Tour experience

One student will represent Lorain-Medina Rural Electric during the 2023 Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., June 17 to 23.

LMRE is proud to announce that one exceptional student has been selected to represent our cooperative on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. This opportunity allows students from rural areas across the country to gain an inside look at our nation’s capital, explore the history and significance of our democracy, and network with other young leaders from across the country.

This year’s delegate from LMRE is Holden Shearer of Medina, who has shown a deep commitment to his studies, extracurricular activities, and community service. We are thrilled to provide him with this sevenday, life-changing trip and cannot wait to see how this experience will shape his future. While on the trip, LMRE’s representative will have the opportunity to campaign for Ohio’s representative position on the Youth Leadership Council.

The Youth Tour experience is more than just a sightseeing trip. Students will have the chance to meet with members of Congress, learn about the legislative process, and learn about electric cooperatives and the impact they have locally as well as nationally. By participating in this program, our student delegate will have the opportunity to deepen his understanding of our nation’s history and government while developing his leadership skills and making lifelong connections.

At LMRE, we believe that investing in the future of our youth is one of the most important things we can do to strengthen our communities. By sending students annually to Washington, D.C., we are investing in the education and development of our future leaders. We are proud to support our young people in their efforts to make a positive impact on the world.

As a cooperative, we are committed to supporting our communities and creating opportunities for our members. We are more than just an electric utility provider; we are a trusted partner and a source of support for our members. Our participation in the Youth Tour program is just one example of how we are working to make a difference in the lives of our members and our communities.

We look forward to hearing about Holden’s experience and we are excited to see how he will use this opportunity to make a positive impact on our community. At LMRE, our youth are our future, and we are committed to supporting their growth, development, and success.

Holden Shearer, 15, will be a junior at Buckeye Senior High in the fall, with plans to complete an associate’s degree at Tri-C in conjunction with graduating from high school. He then plans to complete bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering. Holden believes meeting current lawmakers on Youth Tour will help him develop into a great leader.
