An old and abandoned school located in the middle of a green valley wanted to be rebuilt into a youth hostel, as part of a bigger touristic programme to develop the whole valley, focusing in sports and eco-tourism. The project included the whole master plan, restoration of 3 buildings and 3 new buildings plus their interior design. The outside spaces included rest areas and various sports and leisure facilities. All of them arranged arround an existing racing track, which we called the gathering loop. DESIGN INTRODUCTION

DESIGN INTRODUCTION

The three old middle school buildings were refurbished and converted into youth hostel, using local material such as bamboo. We respected the original soul of the buildings and got inspiration in the local traditional architecture. We designed some bamboo panels which could control the sun radiation and modify the building appearence in an inexpensive way.

For this project we had to design a small book cafe pavilion (less than 40sqm) for a park. The only condition was that it had to be circular, to match the surroundings. The concept idea was to create a tree, with book shelves in its trunk and a pleasant shadow to read and enjoy underneath its green roof. 1.4 shape evolution 形状演变

redesign & BIOCLIMATIC improvement of a modular dwelling, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain 维多利亚,西班牙

生物气候

Course 课程: Bioclimatic Architecture Grade (promoted by Cristina enea Foundation & UPV-EHU) Teacher 老师: Rufino Hernandez & Olatz Irulegi *A qualification Year: December 2o12 年十二月 (end of grade project)

The aim of this work was, firstly, to find the most suitable place in the plot to install one modular dwelling we will later also bioclimaticaly improve.

2

I analysed the climatic conditions of the area. The city was very cold so the sunlight was highly important. After studying the solar incidence on the plot we chose the most suitable place. Also according to the solar study I determined and the best orientation for the dwelling.

Looking at the local architecture I found the main solution to the instructions and recommendations given by the diagrams of Givioni and Olgyay. I designed a second glazed skin. A double façade in the south face that could be completely open during the summer, allowing a cross ventilation that will refresh the house; and be closed during the winter, to generate a greenhouse effect that will keep the house worm and confortable.

All along the northern faรงade I disposed the cupboards and the wardrobes to generate an air camera that will keep the house inhabitants from touching the coldest walls. For the interior distribution I kept the space as open as possible, but anyway I projected some closures in order to keep the warm easier in the areas that are being used in each moment.

Strategies of the house in summer and winter

In the section drawings we can see other of the improvements: the flat roof has been changed for a slopped one. In one hand, we obtain the suitable surface and orientation to install the solar panels; in the other, we create a ventilated air camera that will accumulate the heat.

The aim of this Project was to regenerate a magical spot of the city, providing new facilities and pleasant public and green spaces, in order to place here a marine laboratory that was needed in the area. Firstly, I drew a net that fulfilled the accessibility regulations, respecting as much as possible the existing topography. I also introduced some new elements such as ponds, public vegetable gardens and viewpoints.

The net that shaped the landscape, was also the guide to project the marine lab., so the building was adapted to the existing orography too. The flows and uses distribution was made in order to generate a flexible space that could be use in different ways according to the needs (“modes“) and users (visitors, workers or both).

Everything in this project has been projected in a sustainable and bioclimatic way: The emplacement, to take advantage of the existing conditions and elements. The enclosures, to take maximum profit from the climatic conditions and save energy. The installations, to reduce and recycle the wastes. The materials, for being local, recycled,‌ Both, building and landscape are projected as a whole, as parts of a entire complex.

“为人的职责即是突破极限, 合力并进” Homework

Homework

Homework Time Tech-Free

How and benefits

It’s a really hard line to draw and enforce, especially with tech-obsessed tweens and teens — but the better she focuses, the sooner she’ll complete her work. The following items are forbidden during the homework time: iPad, iPhone, iNano, computers, TV, MP3 player etc…

We are ready to be a resource Helping Your Child Helping your child with his/her homework doesn’t mean doing it for him! We know the best ways to assist your child during homework time so that he/she learns and grows from his/her assignments and scores some 100%’s this school year.

Don’t Give the Answers

Environment & Materials It’s important to provide your child a quiet, well-lit space, away from distractions and with all the right study materials —whatever else he may need to be comfortable yet productive.

20

14

Designated Space for Each Child

Environment & Materials

| 12 |

From day one of the school year, we will provide your child with a notebook for writing down assignments or designated academic planners. Whatever we choose, we will make sure your child writes down her assignments on paper, which will help her remember everything. When she’s finished with all her homework, we will compare the work and the assignment notebook and/or description from the teacher to make sure

Review Graded Work and Mistakes

We create a regular schedule, allowing for adequate study and free time. Most kids are most productive earlier in the evening and classes will be right after school. Kids need a little after-school play break and at least an energizing snack, before hitting the books. The most important thing is to establish a routine that works for children. We will provide healthy meal after school.

“为人的职责即是突破极限, 合力并进”

We don’t do the work for your child. We avoid simply giving answers. Instead, we ask questions that let your child see the problem in smaller, sequential steps. We won’t be there to take your child’s tests for him, so doing his tough Chinese and math problems for him will not help in the long run.

Use an Assignment Book:

Even if your children are well-behaved, they’re probably distracting to one another during study time. We have a separate space for each of your children, or schedule quiet times for homework in designated spaces. If one child finishes her homework earlier than the other, we encourage reading time until the entire class is ready for some together time in common areas.

“Our duty, as men and women, is to proceed as if Limits to our ability did not Exist. We are collaborators in Creation.”

Whenever possible, we are available to answer homework questions. We do a problem or two together with the kids, and then we watch as your child tries the next one. We remind your student (and yourself) that schoolwork is a top priority, and we’re always around to answer questions or look over her work.

21st Century Skills

We look over completed and graded assignments. We will not scold your child for bad grades or mistakes. We will discuss errors to be sure your child understands the material. Incorrect answers are an opportunity to learn, and those tough questions might be asked again in end-of-year exams, so it’s smart to help your child learn the correct answer when the material is fresh in his mind.
