Streich to receive Jim Vaillion Award

M

Mary Deane Streich has been named the recipient of the Jim Vallion Award, which will be presented by the Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund at the 27th annual Red Tie Night on Saturday, March 9 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Often hailed as the social event of the year, Red Tie Night offers an elegant evening of dining and dancing, as well as live and silent auctions with 100 percent of the proceeds remaining in Oklahoma. Those funds provide support, education, advocacy and resources to end HIV/AIDS. “Mary has been with us almost since the beginning,” said Barbara Cooper, who founded OACF with her late husband, Jackie, in 1991. “We needed someone to do the seating arrangements and Mary came highly recommended. When I phoned her that first time I heard this strong, wonderful voice. We talked for a bit and she said she didn’t know much about our organization, but she would be

happy to help. I knew then we had someone special.” Streich served on the Red Tie Night committee and on the OACF board of directors for many years, Cooper said. “She really hit it off with Jack,” Cooper said. “One year, Jack kept changing the seating arrangements. It was the day of the event and he was still making changes. “Just when Mary thought she had the seating chart finished, he would call with something else. Finally, she phoned and said ‘Barbara, put him in a room with no phone and let me get this done. She has been such a wonderful friend to us and is so deserving of this award.” Red Tie Night is chaired this year by Wendy and Ethan House. Entertainment will be provided by the Jordan Kahn Orchestra, with dancing following the live auction portion of the program. Ticket information is available at www.okaidscarefund.com or by phone at 348-6600.

All proceeds benefit the American Heart Association and their extraordinary mission to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.” The event also includes presentation of the

About the American Heart Association:

About the Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund:

The American Heart Association is devoted to saving people from heart disease and stroke – the two leading causes of death in the world. We team with millions of volunteers to fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies, and provide lifesaving tools and information to prevent and treat these diseases. The Dallas-based association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. To learn more or to get involved, call 1800-AHA-USA1, visit heart.org or call any of our offices around the country. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

The Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund (OACF) provides support, education, advocacy and resources to end the HIV and AIDS epidemic. Our goal is to reduce new HIV transmissions, AIDS-related deaths, stigma and health disparities while increasing access to care and HIV/AIDS related services in central and western Oklahoma. As advocates we work to educate our elected officials on the struggles people living with HIV and AIDS face and work toward strengthening their rights. We strive to ensure positive policy changes and legislation while improving health outcomes and access to care. OACF was organized by Barbara and Jackie Cooper following the death of their son to AIDS. Dealing with this devastating disease firsthand compelled them to reach out to others living with HIV/AIDS and those vulnerable to the disease. The Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund (OACF) provides support, education, advocacy and resources to end the HIV and AIDS epidemic. For more information, visit www.okaidscarefund.com.
