Accreditation
In 2016, the ARC-PA has granted AccreditationProvisional status to the Oklahoma City University Physician Assistant Program sponsored by Oklahoma City University. Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding Accreditation-Provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students. Accreditation-Provisional does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class.

Step into your career and impact your community at Oklahoma City University
“
The mission of the physician assistant program at Oklahoma City University is to prepare physician assistants who are competent in the art and science of medicine so that they may improve lives in the communities they serve. OKCU has embarked on a major initiative to impact the delivery of health care in Oklahoma through development of a physician assistant program. PAs have repeatedly demonstrated their value as competent, flexible, and economically prudent medical practitioners. A robust workforce is vital for our citizens.
I chose the PA program at OKCU because this program puts a large emphasis on hands-on learning. I think that is the best way to learn medicine - being placed in a real-life scenario. I always enjoy when we have guest lectures that get the class emotionally-charged through case studies. The best part about the didactic year is having dynamic speakers who can make you laugh, and even the ones who can make you so frustrated that you just want to study and make sure you know your stuff.

Building a culture of community
The Trick or Treatment 5K hosted by the OKCU PA program benefiting the JD McCarty Center in Oklahoma City.
Opportunities you can’t get anywhere else Braden Allred was awarded a Student Health Policy Fellowship by the Physician Assistant Education Association to attend a conference in Washington D.C., on state and national health policy. While in D.C., Allred traveled to Capitol Hill to meet with Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe and staff from Representative Steve Russell’s office to discuss relevant bills and ask for their support. Allred also met with Beth Evans from the White House Office of Public Engagement on policy issues and how PAs and PA students can get involved in health care policy issues on the national level.
The OKCU PA program takes giving back to the community seriously. An integral part of our curriculum is the high value we place on providing care to the uninsured in Oklahoma City. Students and faculty work together in a charitable clinic setting, not only in a mentoring relationship, but providing medical care to our most vulnerable neighbors in need.
“
I chose the OKCU PA program because of the opportunities it gives me to use gained knowledge and skills to make an impact in the world around me. Our program will open doors for me to provide medical care to underserved, uninsured, rural, and homeless populations in Oklahoma and beyond. I am so thankful for the opportunity to work alongside some people who I truly feel are changing the world. My favorite memories are always in our classroom. Our faculty and guest lecturers are second to none, and I am honored to be a part of the culture at OKCU. Also, my classmates are unbelievable people who I am continuously inspired by.”
