WELCOME!
On behalf of the students, alumni, faculty and staff of the School of Theatre and Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University, thank you for being part of our 2022-23 season of thought-provoking works, acclaimed guest artists and extraordinary performances.
These past two years have illuminated how vital it is to use creativity to connect with others. Conveying ideas and emotions, telling stories, and celebrating shared experiences on stage help strengthen the bonds of interconnectivity.
In that spirit, we dedicate this season to two longtime friends who dedicated time, talent and treasure to share their passion for music and love of the fine and performing arts: Dick Sias (1927-2022) and Josephine “Josie” Freede (1927-2020).
With Jeannette Joullian Sias (1932-2014), his wife of 54 years, Mr. Sias was honored with OCU’s Servant Leader Award. His generosity helped sustain and improve the status of arts and education in Oklahoma and his home state of Kansas. The philanthropic projects of the Siases’ family foundation, Ad Astra, continue as their legacy.
Mrs. Freede’s work as a civic volunteer, fundraiser and philanthropist made possible Oklahoma City University’s Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center and the Freede Little Theatre at the Civic Center Music Hall. Her work has inspired a generation and been honored with numerous awards and recognitions, including two honorary doctoral degrees.
The Siases and Mrs. Freede worked together to leave this world a better place by sharing their love of the arts. We are grateful to have known them and strive to do the same.
We dedicate our 2022-23 season to their memory.
Sincerely,
MARK PARKER, DEAN Ann Hundley Hoover Chair School of Theatre & Wanda L. Bass School of Music Oklahoma City UniversityMAINSTAGE SEASON
THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG
BY HENRY LEWIS, JONATHAN SAYER, AND HENRY SHIELDS OCTOBER 27-30, 2022This Olivier Award-winning comedy is a hilarious hybrid of Monty Python and Sherlock Holmes. Welcome to opening night of The Murder at Haversham Manor where things are quickly going from bad to utterly disastrous. With an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines) this riotous farce proves the adage that whatever can go wrong… usually does!
SHE KILLS MONSTERS
BY QUI NGUYEN DECEMBER 8-11, 2022She Kills Monsters is a comedy-drama by Qui Nguyen that tells the story of Agnes Evans, an average woman who loses her parents and little sister Tilly in a car accident. Having been very distant from her sister while she was alive, Agnes embarks in an adventure to get to know her sister better by playing a Dungeons and Dragons module that Tilly had written and discovers things she’d never imagined. The plot takes place both in reality and in the imaginary game world; in the game world Agnes learns about Tilly’s exploration with her sexuality and how she struggled with her sexuality in reality.
MACHINAL
BY SOPHIE TREADWELL FEBRUARY 2-5, 2023A notable work of early American Theatrical expressionism. Written and set in NYC during the Prohibition Era, the play loosely follows the real-life story of the trial of Ruth Snyder, who killed her husband in the 1920’s. The story traces the life and downfall of a young woman navigating the twisting corridors of mental illness in an increasingly mechanized world.
BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE30
2, 2023
William Shakespeare’s beloved early comedy, that tells the story of four lovers and a bunch of rustic clowns, who leave the strict confines of Athens for the woods, and are magically transformed, while being challenged and taught lessons by the tricky fairy Puck and his King and Queen, Oberon and Titania.

PROJECT 21
Project 21: Music for the 21st Century celebrates its 26th anniversary season in 2022-23 with dozens of OCU-created world premieres.
Oklahoma City University’s composer consortium, founded in 1997 by Dr. Edward Knight, presents several concerts each year. Choral, percussion, orchestral and wind ensembles have premiered Project 21 works. Readings and recording sessions are held with the wind and choral ensembles; readings of new works with the full OCU Symphony Orchestra take place each semester. Additional opportunities for presenting new work include choreography showcases, theatre productions, film projects, art exhibits, and student recitals. The program also has established composer-in-residencies with the Oklahoma Youth Orchestras and El Sistema Oklahoma.
PROJECT 21 CONCERTS: 2022-23
Music begins 7:30 p.m. in the BMC’s Medium Rehearsal Hall, unless indicated. Additional performances will be announced during the year. The Project 21 concert video archive via tiny.cc/project21.

CREATING A LASTING
A bequest is a gift from your estate: a transfer of cash, securities or property made through your estate plans. You may make a bequest in your will or living trust leaving a portion of your estate to the university, or by designating Oklahoma City University as a beneficiary of your retirement account or life insurance policy.
Remembering us with a bequest will help sustain and strengthen the university in years to come. Some of the advantages of creating a bequest include:
• You retain control of and use of your assets during your lifetime
You may modify your bequest if your circumstances change
• Your gifts to the University are exempt from federal estate taxes
• You have the satisfaction of knowing you have provided for OCU’s future
will be able to thank you now and recognize your generosity.
