Mary Taylor, BFA Acting ’20 in London London Summer Trip @ the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh Erin Wilson, BFA Design & Production ’21 in Florence Elise Bear, BATAP ’23 in London World Theatre Education Alliance 2019 Beijing, China“Being immersed in cultures besides my own has taught me so much about life and about people, which enhances my artistic skills in ways that are invaluable to my education.” - Mary Taylor
Graduating students have the opportunity to perform in front of leading agents, managers, and casting directors. During the week-long professional preparation trip students participate in performances, casting workshops, masterclasses, industry panels, and on-camera acting masterclasses taught by leading LA artists.
The Wanda L. Bass School of Music and School of Theatre bring a casting director and agent from New York to audition all of our graduating seniors. Those chosen for the showcase spend the spring semester rehearsing a one-hour performance featuring songs and scenes. Those students travel to New York to perform in front of casting directors, talent agents, producers, and other industry professionals.
The School of Theatre invites a half dozen casting professionals (casting directors, agents, artistic directors) from prominent Chicago area theatres to campus. Our graduating seniors meet with, audition for, take workshops from, and get personalized feedback from these guests. Thus, when they arrive in Chicago, our actors are on a first-name basis with a large number of important industry professionals.
The School of Theatre partners with a number of prominent casting authorities from Dallas for extensive workshops and auditions for the graduating seniors.
I chose OCU because of the supportive community and excellence in theatrical production. The professors here strive to ensure their students receive the best possible professional training. I have learned many things at OCU about the technical, creative, and production side of theatre. Most importantly, I have learned how to be an artist in an ever changing world.
-Lauren Leppke, ’22 BA TheatreI chose the BA Theatre Major because it allowed me to explore a wide range of courses in acting, directing, design, and new works. Because there are so many elective credits to fill on this track, it is easy to choose classes in every area of theatre you are interested in. I feel I have become a very wellrounded theatre artist at OCU.
-Olivia De Haan ’23 BA TheatreOklahoma City University has been a community of love and support for me the past 4 years. The community of love I saw during my audition welcomed me in and supported me in all aspects of my life. OCU promotes the growth of their actors in their acting, artistry, and their humanity.
-Fabius Bascon’22 BFA Acting
The choice to join the OCU School of Theatre was easily the best decision I have ever made. The faculty and staff are encouraging, inspiring and passionate, and their love for the students shines every single day. Since coming to OCU, I have learned invaluable skills for the professional theatre world and have been able to use them to build personal relationships. Most importantly, I have learned the importance of being unapologetically myself, and how to bring that to all my work in the future.
-Madison Bailey’22 BFA Acting
The School of Theatre, specifically the Design and Production department, has provided me with countless skills to add to my artistic and professional toolbox. From portfolio building classes to specific courses on my emphasis. I have worked on so many different productions in many different technical areas. When I graduate I know I will feel prepared to take on the world of professional theatre.
