The items produced in the Mitsuo Shisa workshop depict the legendary guardians of Okinawa, the mythical shisa. These days, the handmade ornamental shisa serve many purposes, such as bringing luck or good feng shui. Many are made using coral. When visiting, please look at the individual shisa faces and you can choose the ones that speak to you or appeal to your individual taste. This Naha gallery has the only shisa workshop on Kokusai Street. You can actually watch craftsmen/artists creating everything from cute souvenirs to Mitsuo's original art pieces. Carrying on a tradition that has been part of Naha's Sakiyama area in historic Shuri, the skilled craftsmen at Katachiki guard and perpetuate the ancient Ryukyuan art of bingata. Using the techniques and materials of old, they continue to bring precious hand-dyed and stained pieces, once reserved for samurai and royalty, into modern times. Now, as then, Bingata is a precious product of the Ryukyu Kingdom, born and raised in Shuri.

In Okinawa's Yaeyama Island dialect, Paikaji refers to the Ryukyus' gentle south wind. Established in 1999, the Paikaji brand debuted in Italy at Pitti Immagine Uomo, the world's largest men's fashion exposition. The main shop located on Naha's Kokusai St. presents stylish tropical aloha wear suitable for all occasions to the people of Okinawa under the theme, 'run to your dreams.' Men's, women's and children's fashions are all available. Foreign visitors are encouraged to bring their passports and ask about tax free purchasing.

Most of their baked goods contain no butter, eggs, shortening or margarine. One of the most popular items is their nuchi anpan – a traditional bun that is chewy and glutinous in your mouth and filled with sweet bean paste. The rich flavor is enhanced by mineral-rich Nuchimaasu salt and pure brown sugar from Tarama Island. Another featured product is the ougon imo (golden potato) lusk – with the delicate homemade flavor and long shelf life of a great souvenir. They recommend spreading their potato paste on one side and butter on the other. Terrace and cafe seats with an ocean view offer great places to enjoy their breads, pizzas or a cup off coffee. Mention “ice cream” in Okinawa and the Blue Seal name, which first graced the venerable ice cream shop's main Makiminato branch in the 1970s will come to mind. Hard to miss from Route 58 with its big ice cream cone-shaped neon sign (often used as a photo background) the store has stuck to its 70s American roots with retro-style counters, booths and décor. Thirty flavors ranging from American San Francisco Mint Chocolate or Banana Susannah, to Okinawan flavors, such as Beni-Imo (sweet potato) or Shio Chinsuko (Okinawan salt cookies). Under the theme of “don't just eat your ice cream, enjoy it” a new Ice Park was opened for learning and other visitor experiences.
