VEGAN EDIBLES That Pack a Punch P Veganism is a philosophy and way by Veronica Castillo
lants are showing the world that they are taking over. Be it food, medicine, and/or snacks, plants are changing the way many look at health and wellness. As a traveling vegan cannabis writer- all of that speaks to my heart. Last year, I wrote about 5 brands that look out for vegans. As I travel the country exploring cannabis and plants, I am finding more and more labeled “vegan” and as always- I report back to the plant head community.
This year, I come with 5 new companies making products that are vegan, delicious, and infused with hemp/CBD. Let's get into it- but first…
WHAT IS VEGANISM; WHAT’S A VEGAN?
CHRONIC | JUNE 2021
09
I realized that not everyone is familiar with the term “vegan” and what a vegan is exactly so, let me explain. Veganism is a lifestyle that is sustained by plants. Veganism means that no animal, or products that come from animals, are used/consumed in any way. A vegan is someone that lives a lifestyle, free of using/consuming animal and animal products. A more detailed definition is provided by Vegan Society:
of living which seeks to exclude— as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms, it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.
5 VEGAN EDIBLES THAT PACK A PUNCH
Korasana Slumber Chews
These chews are vegan, infused with CBD, CBN, valerian root, and elderberry. With a total of 10mg in cannabinoids and 5mg in valerian root- these chews pack a punch for an amazing night's sleep. They taste great too! Tip: refrigerate them before consuming- the firmness and coldness makes them that much more enjoyable.
Sunday Scaries Gummies
A brand focused on helping relieve anxiety, Scaries Gummies offers vegan CBD-infused gummies, with 10mg of broad-spectrum CBD, vitamin B-12, and vitamin D3. I haven’t tried these yet but the reviews suggest that these are great.
Plain Jane D8 Gummies
Available in 3 flavors, these gummies are infused with 25mg of CBG. 25mg per gummy is definitely packing a punch. I haven’t had these just yet but from what I see on social media and in the reviews, these are great.
Be Edible Wine
This company is changing the way we consume responsibly. Coming soon, Be Edible will offer a list of wines, infused with CBD. I’ve had the pleasure of consuming the THC-infused Moscato and it was delish! I’m sure the CBD option won’t disappoint.
Hempress Farms LLC, Smoked Vegan Gummies
In Closing
Times are changing and plants are taking over. Those out there ready to transition and not sure where to start, check out the veetravelingvegcannawriter blog. The blog has a vegan recipe column and all recipes have the option to infuse or not.

CHRONIC | JUNE 2021
I had the experience of a lifetime in North Carolina recently while visiting Hempress Farms LLC. While there, I was introduced to something I had never seen before, a smoked vegan gummy- the smoking agentCBD flower. It’s a little hard to tell the total milligrams, but it was obvious that the plant did a beautiful job blending in with the sweetness of the gummy. The gummies were amazing!
BLACK MARKET CRACKDOWN SLOANE SIMON
ver the last several weeks, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics has conducted raids on medical marijuana farms in Erick and Guthrie, detaining up to 23 people and seizing over 15,000 plants.
OBN officers state that tracking of plants has been difficult because of the lack of systems previously, but believe with the implementation of METRC, tracking of legal and illegal sales should become easier.
These farms are believed to be connected, with possible international implications as all the workers were of Asian descent. The OBN feels there could be international connections to the Oklahoma farms because land and licensing costs are much cheaper here than any other legalized state, allowing for a much higher profit and even lower overhead.
The OBN reports evidence of several harvests at the farm/ prior to the raids, with up to 30,000 plants unaccounted for. As of this time, no arrests have been made from these raids.
Though both farms were working under the guise of a legal operation with licensing in place, they were believed to be selling in and out of state on the black market.
In an unrelated incident, a retired dentist out of Durant was raided for providing black market cannabis to two gentlemen out of the Houston, TX area, resulting in the arrest of all three. The dentist was selling to an illegal drug trafficking organization. The OBN is working to make it known that, despite cheaper land prices and easy access to licensing, Oklahoma is not a “safe haven” for black market dealings.

CHRONIC | JUNE 2021

f you haven’t read our first article about Kolton Krottinger, stop here and go grab the January 2021 issue. In that article, titled “Growing Hope”, you can read about Krottinger, his empire: Anxiety Hackers, his best-selling book ‘The Truth About Anxiety’, and his dive into the Oklahoma cannabis scene. He’s already well connected with some pretty fantastic brands and has been working hard to make waves in the industry. Kolton graced me with a few minutes on Zoom call from his OTJ trailer out in Marshall County, Oklahoma. A major component to the Krottinger story is that he experienced homelessness post-Navy. On his journey to positioning out of homelessness, Krottinger masterminded a Facebook event. He figured he could generate some money hosting events and he posted it one night, titled “World’s Largest Super Soaker Battle ''. He had 10,000 responses within hours. Within days, he had 30,000 responses and suddenly he was receiving calls from companies like Nestle, Hasbro, Vita Coco, Subaru, Red Bull. He somewhat shyly admits that he broke a Guinness World Record, “with like 3,000 people there,” and that it helped him get out of homelessness.
Kolton isn’t wrong, whatever your understanding of Belfort – or the character played by Leonardo DiCaprio, the man is astute and perhaps uniquely qualified to operate in the legal cannabis sector. As the world turns, Jordan read Krottinger’s book, ‘The Truth About Anxiety’ and sent agents to speak with his agents and so on until they landed on the opportunity to work together. Kolton is excited to have Belfort’s guidance with the scaling aspect of taking a lifestyle brand national and global. One of Krottinger’s smart business plays has been to acquire farms as the owners seek an exit from the cannabis industry. Along that path Krottinger came to recognize ways that he could invest back into some owners and maintain their stake in industry. In addition to acquiring cultivation facilities, reinvesting into cultivation facilities, he has branched out into dispensary ownership as well, with two storefronts securely in his portfolio. I am excited to hear about his ventures in Marshall County. Kolton Krottinger is a man of records and firsts, so let me extoll his Marshall Co wins: First 24 hour dispensary in Marshall County First cannabis lounge in Marshall County First vertically integrated dispensary in Marshall County First 24-hour taco stand in Marshall County
I am hyped about his projects and exclaim that he has taken every idea he’s ever had while stoned and made it a reality. Krottinger laughs and admits he drives his team crazy because they’ll come up with an idea, “and the next day, we build it.” He explains that the reason for all his fancy extra-ness is because they are creating solutions to their problems. The taco stand was born from a place of literal hunger. Marshall County isn’t currently known for its vast assortment of culinary options and everyone on site was getting kinda tired of the limited choices. The cannabis business is a 24-hour gig and Kolton got the bright idea to ask the locals, again on Facebook, that read “I’m sick of this. I kinda want to open a taco stand.” When he woke up the next morning, he had 2,000 comments to read through and he knew the idea was gold. He’s excited to offer a variety of menu choices by working closely with his chefs and team members to help diversify the culinary options in late night Marshall County. I am excited to report that they are working on vegetarian menu choices as well! Similarly, the cannabis lounge is a solution to a Marshall County problem. Krottinger noticed there were lots of students and young professionals in Marshall County but not a supportive community environment for them to gather. Realizing that something like a coffee shop would benefit the community, he and his team got to work. He now boasts a cannabis-friendly lounge with a coffeehouse vibe in their portfolio. Kolton is excited to give the community a very comfortable atmosphere to come work or relax and have the option to consume cannabis while doing so. He recognizes that a community vibe is fundamental to innovation, creativity, and success. They’ve built a facility with great ventilation, usable outdoor space, and ambiance that is successfocused.
Finding solutions that bring communities together is the real brilliance behind Kolton Krottinger. The Anxiety Hackers empire is ever growing and I am here for it. They approach the industry as problem-solvers with a genuine streak. Kolton’s willingness to share vulnerabilities like his own anxiety have attracted innumerable earnest team members as well as the attention of the aforementioned media moguls and internationally recognized business leaders. Kolton is excited to share his network with the Oklahoma cannabis scene. He’s launching a program to provide product access to dispensary owners who don’t have the capital to expand their inventory. There’s a simple beauty in his plan to streamline access to product through ownerfinancing, but for cannabis. His model eliminates complicated relationships with brokers and provides direct access to a reliable, established inventory of products that dispensary owners can tap into when needed. As a vertically integrated solution, Kolton is able to provide dispensaries with Anxiety Hackers medicine at a moment’s notice – something that I appreciate as a broker; they have eliminated the legwork for me to bring trusted colleagues direct to an entity that stands by its products. As owner of the first verticallyintegrated, 24-hour dispensary with attached 24-hour food truck and in conjunction with the first cannabis lounge in his community, Kolton Krottinger fascinates me. I ask him what drives him to seek world records or hold the title of ‘First’. He attributes his drive and his success to guerilla marketing, or “how to market when you’re broke.” Rather than compete with massive marketing budgets of established brands, Krottinger aims to stand out by providing services that are unparalleled. He says, “I can stand out so much by being so different that I end up being better than them.”
Interestingly, Kolton has never been inside a dispensary. His reasoning is familiar: as a music lover, I have an insane crush on Alt-J and I refuse to know what they look like (I’ve even enjoyed a live show). Kolton doesn’t want any influence on his brand identity. Every bit of who he is, and of his brand, relies on him authentically travelling his journey. Popeye, a fellow Navy man, comes to mind with his assertion
“I yam what I yam and that’s what I yam.” 22
Krottinger, not unlike Popeye or other super achievers, lives his life out loud and he isn’t afraid of a challenge, especially if it makes the world around him a little better.
CHRONIC | JUNE 2021
Krottinger is still in talks with Netflix about a project following the cannabis industry. He now has leads in all 50 states for development of dispensary and cultivation facilities and is primed and confident that Anxiety Hackers will “be the first company to be established in all 50 states.” Krottinger smiles and tells me that he has brought on a new strategic partner, someone that people either love or hate, “but he’s very good at business.” Krottinger has positioned himself to work alongside Jordan Belfort, or ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’.

BY CHEF BUZ
@medibles_ok
Good day to all my canna chefs out there and welcome back, this month’s recipe is one of my favorite Brunch meals, Eggs Benedict or my version, Sunday Funday Eggs Benny. This is a great recipe for Fathers Day this year or anytime you feel like enjoying the Sunday Funday Brunch feeling!
25
This recipe can be made healthier by simply substituting the Canadian Bacon for some sauteed spinach, no matter how you prefer it this Eggs Benny and Hollandaise Sauce will get your day and vibe started off in the right direction. So grab a bag of your favorite herb, twist one up and let's get Cooking with a Buz!
INGREDIENTS 8 pieces of Canadian bacon 3 Tablespoons Parsley, chopped, for garnish 8 eggs 4 teaspoons White Vinegar 4 English Muffins 2 Tablespoon CannaButter, for spreading on the english muffin
HOLLANDAISE SAUCE 3 eggs yolks
1 Tablespoon of lemon juice ¼ teaspoon salt Pinch of Cayenne Pepper 1 teaspoon Dijon ¼ C Cannabutter melted ¼ C unsalted butter melted
DIRECTIONS 1. For this recipe I like to make sure I have everything ready and setup to go, first get your poaching water ready. Fill two large sauce pots about ⅔ full of water and set aside. Then in a large skillet, on medium, cook your Canadian Bacon or Spinach, it’s great with both. You just want to brown each side, maybe 2 minutes per side. While the bacon is cooking, bring your poaching water to a boil, then add the vinegar. Bring the water back to a boil again, then reduce to a low simmer. 3. Now to something a little easier, the poached eggs. I like to crack the egg into a small bowl and slowly pour it into the simmering water. Make sure not to crack the yolk when doing this to ensure you have a beautiful poached egg. Now once the first egg has begun to solidify you can add the next one, repeat until all you have four eggs in. I don't recommend poaching more than four at a time in a pot because it can become a little crowded and difficult to get them out.
2. Now we can start the Hollandaise Sauce, this recipe we will be using a blender to make the sauce. First combine your cannabutter and unsalted butter and melt, then in the blender add the egg yolks, lemon juice, Dijon, salt and cayenne pepper and blend for about 10 seconds to mix. With the blender running on medium/high, slowly begin to add the warm melted butter, make sure to add slowly allowing the mixture to emulsify. Once emulsified, place into a small bowl or serving container and keep warm. 4. While those are poaching you can start toasting the english muffins because we are almost ready to build these beauties. Now when it comes time to remove the eggs, well that depends on how you want them cooked. For a nice runny poached egg, they will be around 4-5 minutes but if you don’t like them runny it will be a bit longer. To remove the eggs use a slotted spoon and gently lift them out of the water one at a time. All your muffins should be ready when the eggs are finishing up so butter them up and plate them. Next top with the Canadian Bacon/Spinach, place your poached egg on top and pour some Hollandaise Sauce over them, sprinkle with a little Parsley and enjoy!

has created his own cannabis brand. It's called GKUA and no, that doesn't mean Gas kinetic unified algorithm. I don't even know what gas kinetic unified algorithm even means or is used for. Google says GKUA doesn't seem to have a solid meaning (it is a made up acronym) other than it is meant to encompass “inspiration” rather than just getting high. There are some that have dove into Lil Wayne’s discography and tried to decipher the code but the consensus is only solid for GK (potentially. good kush). Other than that, it’s just a cool name that will soon be a household one. GKUA is soon to be available all over the United States

(and Alaska and Hawaii). Oklahoma is one of current states that grow GKUA locally and rely on already established grows to provide premium “rapper quality” cannabis. Here at Chronic Magazine we had the amazing opportunity to interview both GKUA’s management and their local Oklahoma grows. The Oklahoma grows entrusted to grow GKUA is called Kind Okie, Vertical Vibez, and Counter Culture Cannabis. Kind Okie is a cannabis farm that has a collective cannabis experience of over 50 years. Their motto is “Be Kind, Be Happy,” and that is exactly what they are and what they provide. They believe that cannabis can improve the quality of life for many people. Kind Okie makes things like house grown flowers, different concentrates, and vape pens. They represent many brands like Happy Okie, HIgh Dose Edibles, Amanda

I asked Dan since he had been with the company from the beginning what it was like to be working with Lil Wayne's weed. Dan responded with, “It's been incredible. Working with Beau and everyone has been incredibly inspiring. Kind Okie as a company and all of our employees have been able to see the growth individually and holistically. I mean you can tell that Lil Wayne is where he is at because he is surrounded by people who know what they are doing and are completely on top of their brand. Even all the way down to putting the product... before putting the flower in the jar it has to meet intangible requirements such as smell and look and things like that.”
Dan continued,
“For most big companies whatever is on the paper is good enough like ‘’Let’s make it easy,’ but we have to reach such high standards with GKUA for the flower to even be in those jars. Also, everything we have learned as far as marketing and all that it’s truly been incredible.”
It may be incredible to work with Lil Wayne (adjacently) but all I could think about was how much pressure a company would be under to provide quality flowers with intangible regulations. Dan explained that it 100% is full of pressure, “Heck yeah, it’s Lil Wayne’s weed!” John Killian added that, “Everybody that we are working with has a high level of professionalism and have been very successful at what they do. So yeah, to his end, Lil Wayne knows what he is doing. He has made an incredible career off what he has done. And he has done so with a level of exception that I have never seen. You cannot succeed that well without putting in the effort and the time. To be around as long as he has, to have influenced as much as he has, he is on the top of his game and his marketing team is the same way. So I can understand Dan’s point, we want to be on that level of greatness we want to meet that expectation. It means we have to be at the top of our game. We constantly have to practice, stay focused, and it is a learning process.” For both Dan and John, curating GKUA is more than just growing weed, it is a chance to be educated, as well as provide a superior product to people all over Oklahoma that is consistent with other states and jurisdictions. I promise it is

Just to refresh any memory, GKUA is Lil Wayne’s brain child. The brand is so popular that they even have a “Weezy Weed Finder” on the website that will tell you the closest store near you that carries GKUA. Currently the brand only has flower and vape pens, one distillate and one live resin. Beau is an uber polite man and was thrilled to ask any questions. It seemed like GKUA was just as precious to him and it was to Lil Wayne. As for Baqi, he had the same vibe just with more umph as he is the creative director and what we see is mostly him.

As GKUA is gaining intense popularity it is spreading even faster. As of right now GKUA is available for purchase in four states including Oklahoma, California, Michigan, and Colorado (and they did this during COVID-19, a struggle in and of itself). Beau mentioned at the start of our conversation that,
“We appreciate you guys giving us so much love in the Oklahoma market. We're really passionate about the brand and everything that we're doing and we're excited to be working in Oklahoma. We are in hundreds of dispensaries and working with some of the local manufacturers and have featured awesome menus. We just really appreciate all the love.”

For many people, the idea of luxury and marijuana don’t exactly go hand-in-hand. Marijuana is not typically considered a luxury item (especially some of the first marijuana offered when legalization happened). For marijuana to be considered luxury it is typically considered to be either extremely expensive or of impressive quality. Unfortunately, those are not often hand-in-hand either. With GKUA, the average person can purchase a luxury item at a fraction of the cost. Having the product be available and easily accessible is something that Baqi mentioned was necessary to the company. It is important to realize that celebrity cannabis brands often have their prices hiked way up or they simply do not make the user feel the way

MAPPING SUCCESS
BY CARISA ROWE
Unity Rd. is an organization structured to generate local cannabis commerce through detailed professional guidance. This company has veteran status when it comes to franchise-building: the team at Unity Rd. includes more than 50 years of experience in franchise development with international credentials including more than 300 franchises in five countries, multiple industry awards, as well as cultivation or planthandling licenses in dozens of states, commonwealths, and provinces. Unity Rd. also boasts a mission I can dig: unity, of course. Or more specifically, unity in numbers.
They are achieving this by combining local networks and offering fully integrated supportive franchise options for cannabis business owners in any market, but especially here in Oklahoma, where we are at the forefront of a major shift in the landscape of Oklahoma’s cannabis industry. Justin Livingston is the Vice President of Franchise Development for Unity Rd. and a quick browse through his LinkedIn profile tells me that Mr. Livingston knows his business and knows it well. I was elated to interview Justin because the service Unity Rd. offers the industry really is invaluable. As a consultant, I have the opportunity to work with companies that would benefit greatly from their service. Picture it as a sort of playbook which entrepreneurs, family investor groups, and peer investor groups can use to guide them across the cannabis landscape. Justin explains that Unity Rd. offers a recipe to success that allows cannabis dispensary owners to achieve their business goals. The team at Unity Rd. focuses on consistency and brand recognition to help dispensary owners reach more clientele and increase revenues. With more than 150 years combined legal expertise, they are extremely adept at guiding owners through the difficult processes associated with legal cannabis sales.
I asked Justin about the hurdles he and the team help their franchises with. He responds, “What I have found is everything in this industry is difficult.” Emphasis on everything; it’s the absolute truth so I agree with him enthusiastically. Justin continues, “All of it! Compliance is difficult. Not really in Oklahoma, but typically licensing is very difficult. Finding real estate is very difficult. Product consistency and availability, supply chain management is very difficult. Security is very difficult. Customer service is very difficult; staffing…” Justin uses his arms to exaggerate the never-ending list as I nod and agree as if he is giving a sermon. “And so I think as people embark on this journey alone,” he takes a deep breath and resets, “People come from all walks of life to this industry. Some people are retail gurus… some people just see the opportunity to leave corporate America and they go running in.” I point at myself, as a former day-jobber in that setting, something I know Justin relates to with his vast experience in franchising. Justin agrees and continues, “The problem is, a lot of people – I would have been included in this [if it weren’t for] our really great team, that you don’t even know what the hurdles are.” I know, with that explanation, exactly what they have created at Unity Rd.

ounds like a hippie song; I can dig it. I spark a “j” that I had thoughtfully pre-rolled for myself earlier in the evening, partly in preparation of a late night of admin and creative work, partly because I am a multitasking queen when properly medicated and I have much excitement to contain. I dig into Unity Rd. online. Their press releases add to my overall excitement – everything I find tells a story of a company committed to community, which is totally my jam. This ain’t no hippie song but, I mean, Unity Rd. could definitely write you a smash hit or the recipe for one.
I routinely find businesses who are overwhelmed because there is a misconception that the legal cannabis market operates like other industries; it does and it absolutely does not. Justin explains that newcomers to the industry aren’t “always clear what the hurdles even are but when they get [here] they find out really quickly.” Justin is sincere as he explains how devastating some of the hurdles can be. We commiserate about stumbling across multiple businesses who are really struggling to pool their resources, or who have overlooked a vital step in entrepreneurship. Most of us cannabis business owners in Oklahoma are local folks. We grew up here or we’ve lived here so long that we might as well have grown up here. Lots of locals got really excited when the big, green wave started rolling in – after all, we’re the Sooner state, known for beating the gun to a land grab and riding the oil and gas bubble through many a burst.

We aren’t afraid of a challenge but we’re also not too proud to admit when we need a helping hand. Across the Oklahoma landscape, businesses are making tough decisions about whether or not to continue operating.
Covid-19 took its toll, of course, but the reality is that natural attrition would effectively have weeded out struggling cannabis businesses even sooner had the world not all collectively paused for a beat together. The opportunity in front of cannabis business owners at this juncture in the industry is as wide as the Oklahoma sky. Unity Rd. doesn’t want to see local businesses shuttering their doors for any reason. In fact, their entire goal is to rehabilitate communities through sound, smart cannabis practices. Their consultative approach to franchising is paramount to their success. Justin explains that oftentimes, owners don’t know what they don’t know and it isn’t until they are in talks with Unity Rd. that some of the weak spots begin to highlight how franchising can save investments. Unity Rd. is adept at navigating the application and licensing processes that daunt even the most seasoned professional. A prime example both Justin and I encounter is that very few cannabis businesses are as knowledgeable about their licensing and regulations as they should be, let alone as well-insured as they should or could be.
A prime example both Justin and I encounter is that very few cannabis businesses are as knowledgeable about their licensing and regulations as they should be, let alone as wellinsured as they should or could be. Unity Rd. utilizes their brilliant legal team to ensure that every franchisee is fully compliant with local and federal laws and well protected. They bring in industry leaders both locally and across the globe to develop policies and procedures that elevate the Unity Rd. brand into the position of industry standard. The industry standard that Unity Rd. is committed to setting allows them to develop a very keen brand identity. Brand identity is the fulcrum to success at this pivotal moment in the developing cannabis industry. Justin and his team curate a vast amount of market research to determine what drives cannabis consumers in individual markets and then integrates those patterns with proven tactics from global leaders to push their franchise locations to become community leaders.
Justin explains, “Good franchisors have proven processes that they have executed over the years so that they can replicate those systems and processes and show other people how to be successful.” Unity Rd. is giving dispensary owners a roadmap to success and they are just as willing to ride shotgun to help navigate. The franchising expertise they offer is invaluable and they have access to an exceptional product line that is ever growing. They are committed to empowering small businesses to achieve generational wealth and they believe that this is best achieved through healthy community ties. Every entrepreneur knows that there are many hats to wear when running a business. Unity Rd. uses the power of numbers to alleviate some of those stresses; their experts have solutions for marketing, security, insurance, supply chain, and compliance. Unity Rd. leads the pack on a mission to become the first nationally recognized cannabis dispensary brand and they achieve this with fully integrated solutions – a concept that proves there really is power in numbers.
When Oklahoma passed State Question 788, the activist initiative which legalized medical cannabis – and a shining example of community effort and the power of numbers, the folks who worked on it were very conscientious to address local concerns that cannabis would draw in corporate money that would smother local entrepreneurs and business owners. When I asked Justin how a franchise operation approaches a market like Oklahoma, he assured me that Unity Rd. is most interested in maintaining local ownership.
Franchising through Unity Rd. is an opportunity to access a recognizable brand and established business practices. In either situation, Unity Rd. is excited to help dispensary owners source consistent products that can be confidently sold to medical marijuana consumers across the state. We have the same conversation I have time and time again when I am shopping for new medicine. Is it consistent? Does it taste good? Can I always find it when I come in? Does the staff know anything about this product? Justin is excited about the solutions Unity Rd. has this problem. Justin explains that
“In a place like Oklahoma where, licensing was easy, which is unique in this industry. That’s not the case anywhere else…” (thanks 788 OGs), “There’s pros and cons to that, right? The pros are: if you know what you’re doing and you have a path to success, or if you’re with a franchise like Unity Rd., then the major hurdle everywhere else doesn’t exist in Oklahoma, and that’s a beautiful thing!” The con is that if business owners don’t already have a keen understanding of commerce, especially with the unique challenges that exist in the legal cannabis industry, they will struggle to bridge the gap that allows them to access their consumers.
Unity Rd. recognizes that you must approach this market with strong customer service, with a positive customer experience that is formed through a consultative sales approach. This client relationship begins at the front door and it relies very heavily on familiarity and trustworthiness. Familiarity and trustworthiness are the primary relationship builders in any community. Many of us leapt into this industry with nothing but love and dreams to back us. Having strong familial and community ties are the singular key to success and those of us who believe in community recognize the importance of trustworthiness. As a consumer, that sentiment is reflected in purchasing patterns. Dispensaries who struggle to drive consumers are likely missing one of these cornerstones to success and the missing piece is often lost in communication or reliability. When making purchasing decisions, many shop owners are left to trust word of mouth or to establish a relationship with a brand rep or broker that they believe in.
Those relationships are incredible and Unity Rd. wants to foster that community by making sure that products sourced for dispensary shelves maintain rigorous consistency and reliable availability. They establish those relationships in order to ensure that dispensary employees can give accurate information to your consumers and so that your consumers can rely on you to provide them a trustworthy medicating experience. I press Justin about the ways that a franchisee might not succeed under the Unity Rd. model. He talks about the recipe for success.
When dispensary owners plug in to Unity Rd. brand they gain a marketing team, brand recognition, vendor negotiations, buying power, consumer research and that recipe is proven to be successful in their many ventures. Justin explains that a consumer can take that recipe and decide to alter it or to not follow the directions fully and that would certainly create an environment where a dispensary might not be a good fit for the Unity Rd. brand but Justin is confident that those business owners are far and few between.
46
CHRONIC | JUNE 2021
The Unity Rd. The model is exceedingly transparent and solely interested in combining the power of individual owners by networking them together with brand recognition, something that increases buyer confidence and promotes new traffic to storefronts. Dispensary owners interested in franchising with Unity Rd. can rest assured that they maintain 100% of their stake in their business. Justin and his team realize that these companies are owned by folks who might have leveraged everything to achieve success in the cannabis industry. Unity Rd. wants to see those dreams realized and build on them.
When building relationships and establishing a franchise partnership, Justin and the team go out of their way to clearly identify the ingredients to success and ensure that business owners and their employees are well-informed and eager to follow the recipe. I ask how eager entrepreneurs might access the Unity Rd. franchise and Justin tells me they have a couple of pathways in. Firstly, entrepreneurs seeking to start a new dispensary can access Unity Rd. to receive expert guidance from the very first day of their project. The second access point is through a conversion element that is specific to Oklahoma and a couple other markets. In both situations, Justin is excited about how
“The fact that qualified people can go get a license and open [a dispensary], will move the state forward. It will help drop the stigma, it will help give access to products, it will help generate tax revenue for the state. All of these things that are so good about this business are easy if you just let people do it.”
Justin is very excited about the opportunities he can provide when the right people find Unity Rd. Our conversation meanders a bit through stories of similar experiences and we land on the vision Justin and I share; building wealth for future generations. He is confident that when owners follow the Unity Rd. model, they are able to
“make money that their grandkids’ grandkids are gonna be talking about.” I note this with lyrics from ‘Boss’ by The Carters, wherein Beyonce brags about their wealth by boasting that her great, great-grandchildren will still be dominating the Forbes’ List and I am completely hooked on the Unity Rd. vision. Justin and I share his excitement for establishing an industry-standard that cannabis consumers can rely on. I am invigorated by his community-minded corporate approach. The Unity Rd. the model relies heavily on proven tactics but even more heavily on trust and unity. The introduction of straightforward business practices into the culture of the cannabis industry is the next wave of development in our sector. Unity Rd. is committed to standardize, safe business practices that will help their franchisees achieve the success that they dream of. Their roadmap really does prove that steadfast determination and finding the right people leads to Unity Rd.
THE WORLD OF CANNABINOIDS AND TERPENES THCA is the precursor to THC, so the chemical structure of the two compounds are very similar. The only difference is that THCA has an extra molecule attached to it known as a carboxyl group. Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, or THCA, is a cannabinoid abundantly found in the live and raw cannabis plant materials. THCA is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, and it is found in the stems, leaves, and flowers of the cannabis plant. It may have a variety of health benefits. Here is a list of conditions THCA may help in relieving in some individuals: THCA works to relieve inflammation and pain and is an ideal cannabinoid for treating such conditions as arthritis and seizures. I have used it myself for those ailments, among others. THCA has been proved to be an effective neuroprotectant. It is being researched and could be beneficial in treating such conditions as multiple sclerosis,

low in THC, with higher levels of THCA. As cannabis dries and ages, the carboxyl group molecule is released from the THCA. During this process, THC is left in its place. THCA slowly converts to THC.

The process is known as decarboxylation, which is the heating that accelerates this conversion. The speed of this process is greatly increased when cannabis is heated, burned, smoked or baked. If you want to consume true THCA, you’ll want to avoid heating your cannabis altogether. The reason is that heat can cause THCA to change into an entirely different cannabinoid. Some examples of how people consume their THCA raw include juicing raw cannabis, using raw cannabis tinctures, using THCA patches, or consuming raw THCA edibles. I make frozen cannabis juice cubes and add them to cold smoothies or cold beverages. They are great with pineapple juice, FYI. If you have access to raw cannabis leaves or material, the process is straightforward.

It brought me back to memories of being at various concerts; sneaking pipes and bags into venues in your underwear, smoking out of soda pop cans, bottles or anything else you could fashion a makeshift pipe out of, lighting up in the crowd and hoping security either didn’t care or couldn’t find—or smell—you (I once managed to smuggle a one-time use waterfall bong made of a Gatorade bottle into Cain’s Ballroom, and smoked it in the bathroom before a Sonic Youth show. Excellent idea.) Even though most concerts during prohibition (and especially music festivals) tended to be places where stoners could smoke more openly than most public places, there were still plenty of times I found myself being tapped on the shoulder or having a flashlight shown on me simply for wanting to smoke my herb. This long introduction serves to report that at least one new metro music venue/bar/dispensary/lounge is specifically cannabis-friendly as long as they’re open. Located on SW 5th St and Western Ave., just south of Downtown, Relax Park is a unique—and uniquely promising—venue that Oklahomans haven’t really seen the likes of before. Situated across a huge plot of land in a perfect spot, it seems almost unfair to just call this place a music venue. Upon entering, you find a beautiful indoor space with garage-style doors that open to the back deck, where the Hub Bar is located. But if you head to your left and check-in first, you can visit the Garden of Weeden dispensary located onsite. Prices are fair and decorations and selection are fantastic; I snagged a pomegranate Oh-Hi infused seltzer before heading back to check the whole place out. a gorgeous view of the Downtown Oklahoma City skyline, SO MANY food trucks, mood lighting ranging from cool to romantic, a pond with fountains, and even more decorations to come. The official grand opening will be June 15th, so this past month or so has been a sort of tryout period for the new owners. Even without all of the decorations and seating fleshed out, the place is gorgeous and functional. Local bands and DJs have been playing the main stage most nights, and this night was no exception, with a DJ plugging away near the future location of the VIP beach. Picnic tables are amply arranged in both open areas of the park, and the place has enough decks to rival most Vegas casinos if you catch my drift. The patio directly south of the indoor lounge, catty-corner to The Hub Bar, was probably my favorite. Its bluish/purple lighting and low-hanging trees helped set a funky and relaxed mood, and it was here that I enjoyed a couple of joints while waiting for a couple of friends to get there. Despite the park not having had its official opening, the place was packed when I arrived. The folks organizing the upcoming GreenGrowFEST were celebrating their launch party, so there were tons of familiar faces from the local cannabis scene. That included friend and fellow Chronic contributor Carisa Rowe, as well as numerous folks I’ve come to befriend through the odd and oddly supportive local microcosm that is the Oklahoma Instagram Cannabis Community. Numerous dabs were had and joints smoked, and even within reasonably close vicinity of one another! It was the first time in some time that I’d commiserate closely, without a mask, with a large group of people, and it felt so nice to have some brief form of normalcy and to be able to let loose. And just in time for my birthday no less! I’ll absolutely be watching closely as Relax Park continues to grow, and I absolutely plan to be at their grand opening event on June 15th as well. And who knows? You might even see a familiar face on drums in a local band playing a raucous show at Relax Park this summer. Time (and maybe a few more band practices) will only tell.

ARBUCKLE FARMS
and LEAF LOGIC By Melissa Hall, M.Ed.

Nothing is a more prominent theme when so speak of these two brands, than Teamwork. I cannot think of two other teams in this industry that are more cohesive, more in tune, or harder working than the teams at Arbuckle and Leaf Logic. When we met the crews and entered both facilities, it was clear that they both worked like well-oiled machines. A familyoriented feeling surrounded both factions for sure. One must assume that the overall extremely impressive quality of the MAC 1 flower and Hash has something to do with this unbelievable synergism of these hard-working folks. Mac 1 is a hybrid strain that crosses Alien Cookies F2 with Miracle 15. Mac 1 is a popular strain that patients turn to for upbeat and balancing effects. But Mac 1 is special because not just anyone can grow it.
This is a clone-only strain. In fact, growers of Mac 1 (Capulator's Cut) have been carefully selected by the breeder in order to protect the quality of this versatile flower. Mac 1 is a photoworthy strain for sure, with eye-popping gorgeous buds that are nearly white and drenched in milky trichomes. The flavor profile on the MAC 1 is a show stopper as well because as good as it looks, the MAC 1’s aroma is equally impressive. She is more of a sweet talker, pumping out sweet, sour, and funky whiffs of rubber, gas, citrus rind, and even a little dirty cheese. Those gassy, sweet notes are covered in a dank layer of earthiness — a true clash of Kush and Chem characteristics. Arbuckle Farms has been a staple in the industry since Day 1 and quickly the MAC 1 became known as “their strain”. If you have seen the elusive flower you will not be disappointed but if you see and smell the Extractors Choice MAC 1 Hash, you will understand why this amazing flower could have just been born for this Hash alone. 60
The MAC 1 is easily one of the most recognizable and most sought-after strains in our Great State. While the flower is their game, rumor has it that Arbuckle Farms will be pressing their own solventless one day. No worries, their buddies over at Leaf Logic won’t be ceasing to run this girl anytime soon.

ack on the Hunt and the anticipation of Summer is in the air. In lieu of this very big issue, I knew the Monthly Review simply must be a huge one. I couldn’t think of a more well-known, reader/patient favorite product to pick than a certain super popular flower by some well-known Oklahoma Cultivators. So, I took it farther and chose the Extractors Choice Live Hash Rosin made from this extraordinary flower that was washed by one of the biggest names in Oklahoma processing. Of course, I’m referring to the prominently in-demand MAC 1 flower grown by the one and only Arbuckle Farms and the MAC 1 Extractors Choice Live Hash Rosin processed by another fan favorite, the crew over at Leaf Logic Concentrates. This amazing pairing of the top proves why these two big-name brands have secured their seat at the big kid's table. Both Arbuckle Farms and Leaf Logic gave The Chronic an exclusive look into the places where all the magic behind that stellar flower and unforgettable hash happens. Be sure to scan the code on the cover page of the review to meet these two wonderful teams and get your own exclusive look at the MAC 1 and MAC 1 EC Hash.
Leaf Logic also has their hands in the flower game as well. With an overall goal of providing patients with quality single source rosin, we don’t foresee Leaf Logic ending any collaborations any time soon. Having sampled their flower, the Leaf Logics Cultivation team definitely has lots of experience growing. Being as vertical as possible never can hurt in this industry. Look for the guys at Leaf Logic to have to shelf flower ready soon and it will be available in limited quantities all across the State. Many may have the misconception that due to the strong presence on the market, prominent brand, and familiarity with extreme quality, that Leaf Logic is a big corporate entity.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. The owners of Leaf Logic are “just three normal guys who like to make good hash.” To put it very humbly. Their facility was cozy and extremely efficient, not to mention super clean and very well organized. Most of their team has been with them from Day 1. Like Arbuckle Farms crew, they really have family-like chemistry and seamlessly work together to produce some of the States' best Hash.
The Chronic would like to Thank Arbuckle Farms and Leaf Logic Concentrates for giving us an exclusive look into their growth and processing facility. The attention to detail, hard work, and remarkable teamwork did not go unnoticed. Watch for the MAC 1 and more gems by both extraordinary teams dropping soon. With exceptional quality as a foundation, you can never go wrong with any of their products. Don’t forget to scan the code at the beginning of the review to meet the teams yourself! Always remember to medicate responsibly and Stay Lit Oklahoma.

Typically, there is no way in hell I would have signed up to join a gym challenge, especially since it meant going into an unfamiliar place without anyone I knew. But, Mary Jane told me to hit the inquiry button, so I did. I started working out, making new friends, feeling somewhat comfortable in my skin, losing weight and finding my groove. I learned I wasn’t the only mom that smoked, and I finally started to feel accepted by people. But, I still had this feeling in the pit of my stomach, something wasn’t right, I felt better physically, but my mental state was shit. I found some wonderful friends in the trainers that work at my gym, and we would often sesh after the gym and discuss life and just being open and honest with each other. These were the first people I came out to. By December 2019, I had come out to my ex. I was terrified that he was going to take my kids and run. He did the complete opposite, he let me know he just wanted me happy and healthy. So that’s what I did. I started working on being happy and healthy. We decided to divorce in June 2020 after trying to figure out the best direction to go for each of us and our kiddos. I tell this story to say, if it wasn’t for cannabis, I wouldn’t have ever hit that inquiry button to sign up for a challenge at a gym. If I wouldn’t have started this challenge, I wouldn’t have met the people that helped me realize I am worthy and loved, no matter what. Cannabis helped calm my social anxiety, it got my booty through the gym door that started this healing process I so desperately needed. It helped foster friendships that encouraged my growth, starting therapy to explore the repressed emotions I’ve carried for years, and getting back to who I truly am. Since starting cannabis back up in November 2018, I have gone through some of the biggest changes in my life that I truly never thought I would.

HAPPY, HEALTHY, AND MEDICATED I imagined I would live my entire life in a closet, scared to come out, terrified to disappoint someone, anyone, that didn’t truly have any say over my life. Instead, I have pursued a career in the cannabis industry, working at a wonderful grow with amazing human beings. I’m able to write for the top cannabis magazine in Oklahoma, something I never thought I’d do because it meant putting myself out there, an act that would stop me in my tracks. I’ve met some of the most accepting and loving people in this cannabis community, and I’m so, so thankful. In the last two months, I have successfully stopped taking my anti-everything meds, after a few failed previous attempts, and with the help of some microdosing. I’m happy, I’m healthy, and I’m medicated.
