About HEF Finance
Even in fully legal states, traditional finance techniques cannot be utilized. What must be remembered is that banks are tied to federal- you know- the FDIC. And because cannabis is still federally prohibited, banks can’t mess around with cannabis businesses.
HEF Finance was founded in 2018 to serve the growing and underserved cannabis industry. HEF started serving Cannabis/ Marijuana and Hemp/CBD industry segments for cultivation, extraction, lab testing, dispensary loans, real estate, equipment leasing, and lines of credit.

What about inventory financing and what type of business would you recommend this option to? Currently, inventory financing is available for finished hemp goods only, such as: CBD/CBG/CBN crude oil, isolate, or distillate. Marijuana inventory is not an asset that can be collateralized by private lenders who fund loans regularly, to our knowledge.
What are 5 tips you can offer to cannabis business owners about cannabis financing for their new business? 1. Raise some capital and have some cash to bring to the table. Lenders never want to be the only financial resource with skin in the game. Bring some skin.
3. Treat your underwriter like your priest. They want your loan to close just like you do, but if you have skeletons in the closet such as lawsuits, bankruptcies, tax liens, or a felony history, that’s all going to come out in “due diligence”. There are workarounds, but arming your underwriter

ast month we had so many questions about Metrc and how reporting will change for cannabis business owners. Now we have figured out to get credentialed and report into the Metrc system. At least that was the goal. Now you may be left wondering, is what I am reporting accurate? How do I audit my system? Once reported, how do I make changes? Do I really have to report sales daily and enter/accept invoices/transfers? By now, you have more questions than answers. Take a deep breath. We are all experiencing the change together. We have now entered the real world of regulated products. Now to add one better, it is also a controlled substance and should be taken very seriously when it comes to reporting and tax payments.
CHRONIC | MAY 2021
25
Reporting in an electronic system is the only way a state can truly track the movement of regulated products with the resources that they are given, especially with the number of licenses that are active. This type of tracking is very common in a regulated industry. This type of software tracks inventory movement and provides specific transfer/movement restrictions governed by the OMMA.
There are many licenses about to be revoked due to non-compliance, so please do not let yours be one of them. A system and routine for inventory control will become an important implementation within your business. The OMMA will not expect you to be a pro off bat but if you are not already reporting in Metrc then you may be subject to fines and/or suspension of your license. If you find yourself in this position, please seek professional guidance. When it comes to Metrc do not guess! Some errors cannot even be fixed by Metrc. Please call the Metrc support if you are unsure of how to input. There have been concerns amongst business owners about keeping their current inventory software or to use Metrc to track their inventory. Why? To reduce costs and avoid double entry in systems. Please keep in mind that this is a tax reporting software and can not replace a POS system for dispensaries. Some smaller (minimal variations of products) growers and processors could probably get away with this if they do not mind calculating their own analytics.
However, I highly suggest that you continue to use third party software to maintain your sales and inventories. Here is why: It will save you money and time. If you have been manually inputting your information into Metrc, you are probably already considering a position for someone to do this full time. This amount of data entry can be very time consuming and costly, especially if you have frequent product movement. Even if you have made spreadsheets you can upload, the manual data input can kill man hours. If your system is at least partially integrated, it will transfer data input into your third-party software automatically. You will still have to take the time to adjust for errors, but it will relieve you of a majority of data entry. If it is fully integrated, you are not even worried about Metrc because it does all the data entry for you. Also, these systems will give you tons of data for your daily decision making. You can watch your inventory turnover and client retention as well as your profit margin. It can also serve as backup to your accounting records for IRS auditing purposes. Metrc has been the largest burden for growers and processors
OKLAHOMA | METRC | OKLAHOMA | METRC | OKLAHOMA | METRC
I would highly consider having a dedicated inventory control manager that has some experience, if not you may want to consult with a professional in inventory control and reporting.
Give yourself some confidence and put those processes in place from the beginning. Having a set clear SOP for Metrc system maintenance will be sure to reduce system entry errors. It will also help maintain accuracy between any other tracking systems. Please seek professional guidance through the development of SOPs for Metrc systems.
Taking the extra step in controlling your inventory will save you money in inventory loss and potential exposure to penalties in the long run.
The initial madness of the Metrc implementation is over. However, please do not forget that your final OMMA report (template) is due May 15, 2021 for April reporting.
Tagging has been a major adjustment to processes for all growers, processors, and dispensaries. Just a reminder that tags are not reusable. This would just create confusion within the system and would cause problems in recall situations.
Please keep in mind that your inventory on April 31 should match the information you input on your final OMMA compliance report. If it does not match, you need to reconcile your inventories against your reporting and find your errors. Amend your OMMA filings, as necessary.
Metrc instructions included, “A package is defined as any amount of marijuana or marijuana-infused products that may be sold, processed, or transferred and must be placed into one or more containers, each container having its own unique RFID tag. This includes but is not limited to all bud, shake and infused products and or concentrates. Any product you intend to transfer must have a package tag. A facility must have a sufficient number of tags on hand to reconcile inventory at all times.” That being said, dispensaries are also required by OMMA to have spare tags for reconciliation purposes. If you tag something incorrectly, you must use a new tag called a replacement tag. Record keeping has now become a requirement to do legitimate business in the cannabis industry. You will find that this practice will benefit you in more ways than in compliance.

Having sound records will help you with financing, business partnerships, income tax reporting, and other cannabis related services. You will notice that with organization and processes you will save a lot of time and have answers available quickly.
If you do not know how to do this, please consult a professional. After you have filed this report away, you are now fully reporting in Metrc. Pro Tip: Utilize any support service offered to you. It is free and they have a short response time. Some changes to note for dispensaries is that Caregiver Status Lookup will now be available. You will now be able to search the status of Caregiver license from the same platform as medical licenses. For everyone please note that the system uses the official metric conversion meaning 1 lb. in Metrc is 453.5924 grams. This conversion will cause a variance between what you reported to the OMMA. You will lose “weight” if you were going by the industry standard of 448 grams per pound. Be afraid, be very afraid. Do you keep telling yourself this about compliance with the OMMA? Which could be true in some instances. Main thing to remember is compliance is just about that, being compliant with the rules set forth by a regulatory governing body. For instance, the more transparency of your business operations, the easier an audit would go.
However, ignorance is not bliss in this instance. It is implied as a license holder that you will inform and make yourself aware of the rules and regulations set by the OMMA and other associated regulatory agencies. At the end of the day, we are human and make mistakes. Depending on the severity of the violation, you may have a grace period to become compliant. Do not be afraid to ask questions, but make sure you are speaking to the right source. Having accurate and up to date information is a critical part of compliance. Misinformation is worse than no information by far. Pro Tip: When asking specific questions to the OMMA, do it by email from the license holders’ email, so you may refer to specific reporting instructions. They do track if you are seeking help or not and will take that into consideration when making decisions about your audit. To all the Metrc naysayers, compliance reporting is here to stay. Noncompliance will push you to the black market. After May 1, all of your vendors can only release products to you through Metrc. If you are a wholesaler, then compliant dispensaries will not purchase from you. It turns into a slippery slope to criminal activity. Most business owners will want to avoid this. There are other ways to voice your opinion about reporting and compliance. However, until there is a better way to accurately track movements, then this is what we got. As business owners, the best way to control cost is to know your BEP and find ways within that evaluation to reduce costs in other areas.
OKLAHOMA | METRC | OKLAHOMA | METRC | OKLAHOMA | METRC
The tags alone can add up quite quickly not to mention any equipment you may need to run your systems.
This will be the most important time to be humble and seek help when you are unsure of the answer. Do not assume that you know everything. There are a lot of resources that you can rely on and professional guidance as well. My overall professional advice to you is, ask questions and take notes!

Good day! My Canna Chefs, I hope all of you had a great 4/20 this year! I had a blast, with the new Chronic Encounters show I was on, and that was terrifying, to industry get togethers and of course all sorts of edibles, flowers and concentrates with the friends. It’s great having warm weather and cannabis events again, camping, cookouts and of course the lake. With everything going on this summer makes sure to take the time to sit down and enjoy a good meal every once and awhile.

This month's recipe is one of my favorite things to eat, mussels, my Great Ganja Mussels and Cream Sauce is a quick and easy dish that will make you feel like a gourmet chef and eat like one too.
½ Onion Chopped Fine ½ tsp Red Pepper Flakes ½ Cup Dry White Wine ¼ Cup Heavy Cream ¼-½ tsp Black Pepper
4-6 Slices French Bread ½” Thick 1 Tbsp Canna Olive Oil
DIRECTIONS 1. First turn your grill on med-high heat or if you don't want to grill your bread you can bake it in the oven at 450 degrees but that's no fun so turn on that grill and let’s get started. Brush each side of the bread with the olive oil and grill each until toasted, then sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper and set aside, lets get started on the mussels. 3. Then remove the lid, be careful of the steam, and add the heavy cream and cannabutter, red pepper flakes, stirring with a wooden spoon until it’s well incorporated, remove any mussels that did not open, serve with the toasted bread and garnish wish some fresh parsley on top and enjoy!
2. In a large saucepan heat the 1 Tbsp of canna olive oil, then add your prosciutto and cook until crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Now you’ll add the remainder of your canna olive oil and add the onions, garlic for about 3 minutes, the onions should be translucent. Now add the mussels, white wine, fresh herbs, tomatoes, thyme and the salt and pepper and steam covered until the mussels open. 4. Don’t forget to grab my book for more great recipes like this one and many others, from stuffed meatloaf and country fried steak to mahi mahi and lobster tail, everything from understanding dosing to making your own oils and butter, every recipe has a shopping list for even more ease!

t every juncture since joining
the cannabis industry, I’ve had the opportunity to meet incredible individuals who are in the trenches, carving the cannabis industry into the landscape of American commerce. I got this assignment at the beginning of the very busy 420 season while judging a cannabis cup. Much to my delight, I was able to spend a little Zoom time with Cullen Raichart and Lance Lambert of GreenBroz. Inc.
GreenBroz is a fascinating organization that has empowered its dream team of young engineers to innovate competitive solutions in post-harvest processing and rapid prototyping. For a little background, Cullen Raichart, the company’s founder, is a Fortune 500 veteran, a U.S. Armed Forces veteran, and a distinguished inventor who is pioneering innovation in commercial cultivation of cannabis.
Lance Lambert, the VP of Marketing, is a seasoned veteran in globalizing brands, including WeedMaps and Boveda. Lance specializes in telling stories and cultivating brands. CHRONIC | MAY 2021

He transitioned from mainstream digital media into the cannabis sector through The Denver Post in time to help develop The Cannabist.
He went from there to help launch Green flower Media into worldwide distribution and aid them in becoming a global authority on cannabis education.
In case you are wondering, the GreenBroz name stems from the brotherhood that erupts and sustains between cannabis aficionados and is a nod to old school cannabis vernacular. I spent a bit of time combing the internet about Lambert and Raichart. With such credentials behind them and an impressive number of successful inventions to lay claim to, I grew more excited to interview them. As a problem solver by nature, cultivating cannabis presented Cullen with a multitude of opportunities to fix things. The first solution Cullen brought to the industry was a solventless trichome extractor intended to address the tumble and crumble of the existing trim machine. As a cultivator, he acknowledged that the process could take

It is no lie that quarantine times ignited cravings for familiar comfort food and indulgent items such as baked goods. I indulged even more and not making excuses either. I have always had a sweet tooth but being at home – during stressful times – restricted medicating specific ways, so I had to get creative and tried different edible brands. Edibles are often considered a safe, discreet, and effective means of attaining the therapeutic effects of cannabis without exposure to the potentially harmful risks of smoking. They can be homemade (my favorite) or prepared commercially for a dispensary near you.
EDIBLES
D
uring the pandemic, states declared medical marijuana essential along with pharmacies and grocery stores as the coronavirus sent many Americans home, with or without jobs. For some, working remotely also meant doing more schoolwork with kids, zoom meetings, extralong conference calls, and a lot of daily discomforts. My reaction to that Edibles! Or just sweets in generals. I love walking into a bakery, bread shop, or subway (the smell of bread), for that matter. Sweets make me so happy. Thinking about it, I instantly get a smile on my face, and my mouth starts watering. Do you do the same? Maybe it is just me since I am a dopamine seeker.

The smell of baked goods is not just pleasant; in fact, it can be comforting and can bring back sweet memories. Furthermore, numerous studies show that scents produced through baking have a powerful effect on memory; and the smell alone makes people nostalgic for their childhood. Like Grammy's cookies created from scratch, sugar and butter hitting every corner of the mouth. Lip Smacking Good!
Infused brownies and sugar cookies helped me every day, and it brought stability to my crazy home life! Many of us (including myself) do not hold the willpower to put the second or third brownie down. In a nationwide survey conducted by The Harris Poll and commissioned General Mills Foodservice, 48% of consumers eat more baked goods during the pandemic because they crave something sweet. 42% to get a sense of comfort. 41% to induce happiness, and 27% reported it because they permit themselves to indulge. I started asking a few questions to fellow trusted OMMA processors; as expected, all said the demand for their delicious baked goods had risen significantly. No surprise there. THC and sweets? You cannot go wrong with that. Or can you? Suppose you are one of the lucky patients that have not had a bad trip on edibles, good for you. If you are one of those that know what I am talking about, you know it is no Bueno. It is most definitely a trial and error, just like any other medication prescribed. Finding the perfect dosage for you can take time and some discomfort. CDC states that edibles take longer to digest and much longer produce an effect. Therefore, people may consume more to feel the effects faster and may lead to people consuming very high doses and result in adverse effects like anxiety, paranoia, and, in rare cases, an extreme psychotic reaction (e.g., delusions, hallucinations, talking incoherently, and agitation). I have been there and done that!
However, understanding how edibles digest might help in the right choice of dosage. HERE ARE A FEW TIPS:
When you eat a meal, it takes a few hours to digest. The same goes for edibles. After each bite, the edible works its way through the digestive tract, and then it gets broken down. THC, within the edible, passes through the liver before entering general circulation within the bloodstream. When THC has worked its way into the bloodstream, the edible effects start to kick in. Another way to be careful is reading the label containing the THC levels, terpenes, cannabinoids, etc. Sometimes the front packaging reads 100mg, but the label states 122mg; you can never be too careful; it can save you from a bad trip. Lastly, and most importantly, while edibles take longer to produce a reaction, the effects usually last longer (anywhere between three to 6 hours), and it will also feel more intense. It could potentially reduce the need to dose frequently. In one study conducted by Cone and colleagues, participants received cannabis-infused brownies and completed a series of behavioral and physiological measures of drug effect. Participants experienced favorable drug effects, with peak responses occurring an average of three hours after ingestion and effects dissipating within twenty-four hours.
The higher the potency of an edible, the higher the concentration of cannabinoids, which in turn means there is more for your body to process and more extended time. Sometimes this prompts us to try more, although the body has not processed it yet, causing the discomfort of a psychotic episode, hallucinations, paranoia, panic attacks, etc.
Patients looking for the best-infused edibles should always seek a reputable manufacturer or distributor of THC oil who can provide certificates of analysis proving the THC's potency in the product. Following your favorite edible processors on their socials gives you an insight into their cooking process and unique recipes. But the result is always the same: a tasty treat and a delectable buzz.

Physiological measures of drug effect (pulse, blood pressure, and pupil dilation) were not statistically different from the placebo group. Think of it as an extended-release pill; the point of an extended-release is in hopes to feel fewer sideeffects as the levels of the drug in the body are more consistent in extended-release formulations.

ost people know of THC or
tetrahydrocannabinol. This chemical compound in cannabis is responsible for a euphoric high, which some people need for relief from their ailment. THC has likely been synonymous with cannabis in most people's minds for as long as you’ve known about the plant. Understanding THC, one needs to understand cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant that interact with receptors in the brain and body. Some with various effects from energy to drowsiness are exactly why the consumer needs to understand cannabinoids and terpenes in the plant's profile. Obeying the law? What a preposterous proposition! He mumbles and grumbles something about once finding a weed nug that looked an awful lot like the Razorback on his hoodie, then shuffles off past the cigarette-smoking group he was speaking to earlier and back into the bar.
It’s an odd imposition, and one I’ve encountered often. Light up a joint around people, and there’s a decent likelihood that someone will either complain or ask to join.
It happened during my first visit to Good Times, during my first visit to The Pump, and is something I’ve encountered here and there at other venues also.
There was absolutely a time in the prohibition days that I always had my grinder, a pipe, my bud supply, and one or two joints on me at any given moment. In those days, anyone who asked was almost always someone I would share with. I loved smoking cannabis, and I loved meeting others who liked smoking cannabis.
In those days, that was how we networked! You’d smell that familiar aroma, crane your neck, and find out where your fraternity brothers or sorority sisters were located. It was almost like a secret code; all you do is ask and we know you’re “cool,” and you’re accepted into the circle.
And it’s for this reason that I understand this gentleman’s disappointment. OMMA laws are surprisingly strict when it comes to sharing, however (a $200 fine if you're caught sharing your medicine

s the days start to slowly get longer and the air gets warmer, that ever familiar feeling of anticipation for hot Summer days gets stronger. Recently I came across a product new to the Oklahoma market unlike any other. A product that screams light and refreshing, a product that will be sure to be a quick patient favorite and is absolutely perfect for a warm Spring or sweltering Summer day.
But, who could have ever thought it would be this good. Born in Durango, brewed in Oklahoma Oh Hi THC infused seltzer’s provide patients with a lower dose, lower calorie and lower sugar alternative to the average high sugar high dose drinks available on the shelves of most Oklahoma dispensaries. Oh Hi is a light, refreshing seltzer that comes in four flavors, one of them also having a CBD component. Oh Hi’s approach to THC infused drinks is giving patients the option to socially drink a few drinks without the heavy impairment of high dose THC infused beverages.

hinking about dipping your toes into the cannabis job market, but not sure what all is out there or where to start? Luckily, there is a wide variety of opportunities based on all levels of education and experience. Whether looking for something as relaxed as a trimming job or high paced as an CFO, there’s a job available for you. The most well-known position where job seekers tend to start is the Budtender. Depending on previous experience, the budtender makes around $10-$15/hr. Knowledge of the different strains, whether they are Indica, Sativa, or hybrid; as well as knowledge of the products sold in store and a willingness to learn is a must. Another great entry level position is working as a Trimmer. Compensation for a job well done can be via an hourly pay rate, typically around $10-$12/hr; or per pound trimmed, average of $120/lb.
Trimming is a great way to enter the industry, while allowing room for job growth. There are also the options of either joining a trim crew or working directly for growth. Moving up a bit on the pay scale, allowing for an opportunity to grow in your knowledge of cannabis, is working as a Cultivation Technician/ Assistant Grower. These positions hold slightly higher responsibilities, in turn, pay tends to be better averaging around $15-$20/hr. One of the greatest appeals to this position is the room to grow, to become a Master Grower, making on average around $72k/year. Top earners in Oklahoma can make up to $140k/yr. Talk about growing some green. Another lucrative role, not necessarily requiring a degree, is an Outside Sales position.
CANNA JOBS COVER
These positions can be through a brokerage or directly out of the grow to dispensary. On average, starting salary is around $50k/yr, with commissions around 5-7%, and the chance to make up to $150k/yr based on experience and productivity. With the recent switch to METRC, IT Specialists are even more important to the cannabis industry. Starting positions can make on average between $40-$60k/yr. A huge factor in ensuring quality cannabis product is the lab testing. Lab technicians make on average around $45k/yr, with top earners grossing around $75k/yr. Lab Analysts make slightly more, around $50k/yr, requiring a bachelors degree for this position.
