PETS NEED CBD TOO BY CHYNNA PEARSON We all love animals, and we all love marijuana. It's only natural that the two were bound to intertwine at some point. Since pets shouldn't really ingest THC, many people have been hesitant about using cannabidiol (CBD), the nonpsychoactive ingredient in marijuana, on their precious furry babies. But, veterinarians have begun to back CBD products for animals. Although there is no concrete evidence of CBD benefiting animals yet, there have been signs of anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, antianxiety, appetite stimulation, cardiac benefits, and anti-cancer properties within the animals who have tried it. CBD seems to have very similar benefits to our pets as CBD does for us. If you're still skeptical about using CBD for your fur baby, there have been cases of CBD reducing seizures in dogs as well as them benefiting from using CBD when they've been diagnosed with cancer. Many veterinarians have actually begun to recommend CBD more often to people whose pets need pain relief but don't really need or don't want to use prescription drugs. CBD use can also take the place of anxiety relieving vests and other physical fixes. CBD is a great alternative for both humans and animals since we all have an endocannabinoid system.
While it's completely understandable to worry about your pet, CBD is a harmless alternative to pain and stress medication. Let's be honest- as much as we love and care for our little fur babies, sometimes they can feel bad or anxious just like us. It's hard to tell how they're feeling because (as much as we'd like to) we can't just ask them. However, we can observe and draw our own conclusions over how our fur babies are feeling. Some puppies and kittens are wild and could use a chill pill while some have anxiety caused by adoption and don't want to get out of their cage.

Other older animals can get sore joints and not have the motivation to get up and play like they used to. Taking them to the vet for small things can be expensive for no real reason other than the vet telling you something like "your dog’s got arthritis" or "looks like your kitten needs to be eating less." For these small problems that need fixing, this is precisely where CBD for pets comes into the picture. As we became more legally able to study CBD, we have found many more uses for it like using it on pets ranging from mammals to even reptiles.
Now, my family has always been a dog family, even before I was born. Our current pets have a range of ages and each of them could benefit differently from using CBD for pets. My puppy, Draco, is almost three-years-old and has some anxiety issues. I like to use CBD with him before long car trips, before he goes to visit the vet, or even when I have a longer than average day at work. His mood is much more relaxed with his calming CBD treats. They don’t seem to make him lethargic,

As our ability to study CBD in pets has Dogs and cats may be the most common type of pet, but I've found CBD for horses and lizards as well. Horses need a much larger dose than our tiny dogs and cats almost twice as much. Even though they are much bigger than only twice the size of a dog, it is important to start small and increase dosage slowly until you get the desired effects. Horses have similar results to dogs and cats. Lizards and other reptiles on the other hand do not need very much of a dosage. Reptiles seem to be able to use any type of CBD as long as it is made for animals. Reptiles use CBD mainly for skin conditions, anxiety and stress, or internal inflammation. Oddly enough from what it seems once CBD has been proven to help horses, it may be included into livestock feed to help them be healthy and potentially benefit the overall structure of that industry. Once horses are completely tested, it could also help CBD become FDA regulated within animal food products that can help each and every animal by inserting CBD into their breakfast every morning.
increased, we have also begun to create more and more products including CBD treat bakeries. In states that have medical or recreational marijuana, we have seen people trying their best to make their furry friends be just as happy as they are. CBD treat bakeries are a good way to get your pet something small to try out without having to make a commitment on an entire bag or vile of CBD treatment. That way you can also try out all the different options and levels of dosage as well as being sure your pet doesn’t have a bad reaction. You can find CBD for pets at specialty dispensaries and sometimes even chain stores like Walmart or Target.
Remember, while CBD is safe, there are some side effects that can occur within your pets. Some side effects may include dry mouth which leads to extreme thirst, low blood pressure, drowsiness, and dizziness especially with higher doses. Remember, always check with your pet’s veterinarian to be sure the product you’ve chosen for your fur baby is safe. CBD does take a little while to kick in. In some pets, it might take two servings to be able to see any changes which could take anywhere from five to ten minutes. In some extreme cases, it can take up to two days to see the desired effects. It takes Draco around thirty minutes for his dose to kick in, but for MItzi being a smaller dog, it only takes a few minutes. There are several wonderful brands you can purchase around Oklahoma that produce animal CBD products that work really well. If you have a pet who may benefit from using CBD, be thorough in your research, but be sure to have fun while doing it! It’s a benefit to your pet without them having severe side effects.

MORAL MONSTERS
Cannabis and Racism
We have a problem here that has been a problem for centuries. Many argue that we have never had a problem, and to that I say- you are the problem, moral monsters. Because if you can’t see the prejudice and oppression of black and brown in America, then you are the problem and the oppressor.
Our country, the land of the free- isn’t really a free country

The United States spends millions on wars outside of this country but will not address the issue at home- domestic terrorism, police brutality, killing hundreds over fear and prejudice. RACISM AND CANNABIS These two have been tied together for quite some time. Cannabis has been used for decades to populate prisons for modern day slavery. Even with legalization, black and brown people are still targeted and are at risk for going to jail simply for smelling like terpenes. Many won’t agree with any of this so- let’s look at statistics.
Black Americans make up nearly 30% of all drug-related arrests, despite accounting for only 12.5% of all substance users? Almost 80% of people serving time for a federal drug offense are black or Latino. In state prisons, people of color make up 60% of those serving time for drug charges. Georgia spent $78.6M just to incarcerate people of color for drug offenses and that it’s 1.6 times more than the state’s budget for substance use treatment services. 1 in 9 black children has an incarcerated parent and 1 in 28 Latino children has an incarcerated parent, compared to 1 in 57 Caucasian children.
POLICE AND CANNABIS The following is information from The Washington Post regarding black and brown lives taken by police due to Cannabis:
Marijuana use was a key factor in police officers’ decision (Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department) to approach Keith Lamont Scott in a confrontation that turned fatal.
Officers killed unarmed Bronx teenager Ramarley Graham, as he tried to flush Cannabis down the toilet.
In 2010, Trevon Cole was attempting to flush Cannabis when police killed him in Las Vegas during a drug raid.
Sad isn’t it? Cannabis: the plant, the terpenes, and the cannabinoids have not killed anyone. But as Christopher Ingraham says: “But aggressive enforcement of drug laws has led to some deaths”; Moral Monsters.
CANNABIS PROHIBITION AND IMMIGRATION In 1937, the government decided on the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 (now properly spelled Marijuana Tax Act of 1937). In 1970, Cannabis was prohibited with the Controlled Substance Act- also referred to as CSA. Information from drugpolicy.org states that just after the Mexican revolution, the United States saw an increase in immigration from Mexico.
Cannabis, being a part of Mexican culture and healing, came with. Through the media the government began to play on the fears that the public had about these new citizens, by falsely spreading claims about the “disruptive Mexicans”. They said that they used dangerous native behaviors which included marihuana use.
Prior to the 1930s, there were little to no regulations on the sale and use of Cannabis in the United States. Major U.S. pharmaceutical firms were importing Cannabis from India, in a format that was “ideal for smoking purposes”. So, why was Cannabis ok for then but not when Mexicans wanted to heal with it?
Business Insider says, “Harry Anslinger, took the scientifically unsupported idea of marijuana as a violenceinducing drug, connected it to black and Hispanic people, and created a perfect package of terror to sell to the American media and public”, and I agree.

JASMINE HARVEY - SURVIVOR No matter how you slice it, the average cannabis user is a survivor; whether it’s cancer, depression, chronic pain, addiction, or depression, people have turned to cannabis for relief from all sorts of diseases and disorders, and more often than not, this humble little plant has been key to helping them find hope again. It’s taken a long time, and a lot of work, but slowly, the negative stereotypes surrounding those who choose to use cannabis as medicine have started to fade away. In place of those stereotypes are real people from all walks of life, using cannabis to help turn their health and lives around. They all have different stories, different paths that got them to where they are today, and for some of them, a great deal of loss along the way. Life, as we all know, can be extraordinarily difficult at times, and yet even in the challenges we face and the struggles we endure, we’re given opportunities to rise again, and for people like Jasmine Harvey, cannabis has played a big part in her story, even the difficult chapters.

Born and raised in Tulsa, Harvey grew up with a more positive outlook on cannabis than many other Oklahomans,“My household was split in that regard. My mother, of course, did not want me consuming cannabis, but a lot of my family members were avid consumers, so I still grew up pretty much pro towards cannabis.” With the exposure to cannabis and the culture surrounding it from various family members, Harvey tried it for the first time as a teenager, as many have,” I was only partaking on occasion when I was a teenager, since I was around it often in some way,” she said. “I’ve honestly never really had any bad experiences with it in all this time, except for not knowing my limit with edibles.” With her relatively positive views in regards to cannabis growing up, once she reached adulthood, Harvey says her views were already pretty much in place towards the plant. “With the experience that I have personally, I’ve always been an advocate for cannabis.” Her passion for the plant was something that she and her late husband, David, had in common. “My late husband and I were huge advocates for cannabis, especially when 788 came around, we were very excited to support it.” Unfortunately, David passed in May 2018, and while she’s taken steps to move forward, his memory very much lives on in Harvey. “Now, with my new life and partner, we advocate a lot for cannabis in our community. We try to be informative for those who don’t understand the benefits.” Despite the split-views in her household growing up, Harvey says that all of her family and friends not only know that she’s a cannabis patient, but they support it. “They know I want to get into the cannabis industry, and they support me all of the way. I even helped my mother and my aunt get their own medical cards.” While she hasn’t taken the plunge just yet, Harvey has been gearing up to dive right into the cannabis industry when the time is right. “I am a photographer with my own company, and a brand rep when needed.”

In addition to her work and advocacy for cannabis within her local community, Harvey also hosts a support group for other widows, called What the Widow!?, which includes a medicating hour for other patients, as well as a public blog, Universe with Jaz, to help share her story and encourage others in similar situations. “Trauma forever changes the brain, and cannabis helps me slow down and retain my cognitive health. It’s a work in progress, and I like to share my journey for those that are in need, so they know they are not alone in this.” While she’s vocal about her belief in the benefits of cannabis, Harvey is also a patient who uses it for her own health. “I use cannabis for a number of reasons, including my anxiety, depression and PTSD, as well as my photo-sensitive epilepsy and insomnia.” Like many patients, she’s found that using cannabis for one issue has offered relief for others, and while it may not be a cure-all, it’s helped more than expected. “It has helped tremendously with my sleep, and in addition, I have fewer panic attacks now. As I’ve been using it to help with those issues, I’ve also found that it’s far easier for me to focus on work and keep track of things. “ For her, being able to access legal cannabis has changed how she medicates. “The freedom is great. Having the freedom to go into any dispensary and choose the best medicine for myself is a really, really powerful feeling. Having my card has changed the way I view cannabis to more of an educated stance, and I’m happy to experience it for myself.”
Harvey is a vocal support of cannabis, as we’ve established, and if you’ve seen her posts on Instagram (@universewithjaz) or Facebook (Universe with Jaz), you’ve caught a glimpse of the drive she has to not only support the existing industry, but see it go further. “Ideally, I would like to see more accessibility for it. I know that there are things in the works for delivery and such for Oklahoma, and I of course hope to see it federally legalized soon.” In addition to the benefits that cannabis has brought to her health, Harvey also credits the cannabis community here with encouraging her to get more involved in the industry, and in a way, helping her find new purpose in a life she never expected. “Seeing those who are truly for the patients made me want to help in my own way, by advocating and providing my knowledge where I can for those most in need.” Though she’s had experience with cannabis since the occasional use as a teenager, Harvey encourages people who’ve never tried cannabis or are still new to it to take it as slow as they think they need to. “Don’t get hung up on the percentages of THC, instead, look and find what works best for you on the terpene level. It takes a lot of trial and error, but documenting your journey as you go will help immensely on figuring out what you like, and don’t like,” she said. “When it comes to edibles, take it extremely slow. Microdose it, wait an hour or so before you consume anymore, and go from there. Everything works differently for each patient. Your journey is just beginning, so make sure you enjoy it.”

The Two Ways to Make Green Dragon Tincture
For both methods below, the following is required: Set oven at 325 degrees. Chop the Cannabis flower into little pieces. It’s best to use a grinder. Use the baking pan and aluminum foil decarboxylation of the flower (this activates the THC). You did this by placing aluminum foil on the baking pan and spreading the flower out in preparation for baking Place the pan in the oven for 5 minutes for decarboxylation. If the goal is THC green dragon tincture, decarboxylation has to happen. This process takes THCA (which is CBD leaning in impact- no high) and turns it into THC. Method 1- 1 month in a cold dark place. This method uses the seal and store methods. Seal the alcohol and cannabis mixture tightly. Place the jar it in a cool, dark place. Leave the mixture sitting for a month, shaking it once a day. When 1 month is reached, filter the plant matter using a coffee filter and strain the liquid into a storage container. Using an eighth (1/8) of Cannabis flower, you should have 1 ounce of dark, brownishgreen tincture that’s ready to use.
Method 2- Master Wu’s Way. This method uses heat to speed up the process. Pour alcohol into a jar and place a lid on it. Place the jar into a pot of shallow hot water. The water should reach half way up the side of the jar. Allow the jar to sit in the water and simmer for 20 minutes. The heat level must stay at 170 degrees Fahrenheit. After 20 minutes, remove the jar from the water and allow it to cool. Once cooled, strain the mixture to remove the excess plant matter and pour the tincture into a storage container. You should have 1 ounce of dark, brownish-green tincture that’s ready to use. Tinctures can be taken sublingually, orally, or dropped into edibles of all types. In Closing Green dragon tincture can be used by consuming the oil orally using a dropper. The oil can also be added to recipes therefore creating infused edibles. It is very important to keep in mind that heat and alcohol can create fire. Using a thermometer is a great idea because it’s an easy way to make sure that the alcohol doesn’t over heat. When consuming, keep in mind that the oil should be consumed by placing drops under the tongue and allowing the oil to be absorbed by the tongue. Homemade recipes make it difficult to know potency because that varies depending on the potency of the Cannabis flower and alcohol. The best way to consume is micro dosing to ensure that too much isn’t consumed.

FILLET SHISH KA BOMBED "TWIST ONE UP AND LET’S GET COOKING" By Chef Buz @medibles_ok
G
Good day and welcome back all my cannachefs out there, I don't know about you but I love the hot weather so bring on July.
Backyard BBQ’s, hanging at the lake, floating the river, my mom’s birthday and of course Fourth of July, July is one of my favorite months for these reasons and much more. So, this month’s recipe is one of my favorites to grill for friends and family, certain to keep everyone laughing all day and into the evening. Shish kebab is something my father would make often and I really enjoy making it and eating it as well. So, I decided to give it the Chef Buz twist, these Canna Shish Ka Bombs are sure to bring the fireworks to your Fourth of July party or your next BBQ! Now you know what time it is, it's time to grab a bag of your favorite herb, twist one up and let's get cookin’ with a Buz!
INGREDIENTS 1 lb. Filet Mignon 1 Red Onion 1 Green Pepper 1 Red Pepper 1 Yellow Pepper 4 Tbs canna olive oil 4 Tbs olive oil ½ c dry red wine 2 Tbs lemon juice 1 ¼ tsp of garlic powder ½ tsp thyme ¼ tsp paprika ½ tsp onion powder 1 Tbs brown sugar 2 tsp black pepper 1 ½ tsp salt
DIRECTIONS First you always want to have your mind right, then you'll want to get the marinade together, this is pretty simple, mix all the ingredients in a bowl, whisk if necessary. Afterwards, cut the filet into bite size cubes, about 1 ½ inches trimming off any extra fat, and place into a large plastic bag. I like to use the zipper freezer bags, and pour the marinade over the filet. Mix the cubes and marinade well together in the bag and place in the refrigerator. I prefer to leave my marinade overnight 12-18 hours before grilling, if you're in a rush then at least 30 minutes to an hour. Once the meat is ready, cut the vegetable the same size as the filet and begin making your Ka Bombs, alternate the meat and veggies then grill to your desired temperature. I suggest cooking the fillets medium rare, honestly a well-cooked filet doesn't need marinade or sauce at all but for this recipe I like to use this marinade. Enjoy, and remember to be safe this Fourth of July!

How Cannabis Can Help Find Calm in the Chaos BY KAYLA JOHNSON
In case you haven’t gotten the memo yet, 2020 is turning out to be a rough year for pretty much everybody at this point. From the onceagain-rising rates of COVID-19 transmission and hospitalizations to skyrocketing stress related to our jobs, the health of ourselves and our families, and even the election in November, it’s not really surprising that cannabis sales are seeing an equallyaccelerating rise to new records. With everything going on in the world, it’s also not shocking to see that many people are feeling more stress and anxiety than ever before. Feelings of isolation, frustration, and even a sense of grief or loss are all emotions that many of us have experienced over the past few weeks and months, and rightly so; there’s been a lot to process. It seems like things aren’t going to be slowing down anytime soon, specially as issues involving the pandemic and public health and safety continue to crop up. OKLAHOMA CHRONIC

Continually ignoring your emotions and not taking action to try and reduce the stress you’re feeling can lead to other health concerns, including a weakened immune system. Simply put: as tempting as it may be right now to keep ignoring it, you’ve got to deal with it directly. When you take time to acknowledge what you’re feeling, you can take steps to try to alleviate those feelings and protect your mental well-being.Part of the beauty of cannabis is, rather than suppressing everything you’re feeling, it often makes it easier to look at it directly, and when it comes

Get outside
Judging by how packed many city and national parks have been since things have tentatively reopened, there’s a good chance you’re already taking this bit of advice. While it’s important to continue following guidelines for social distancing, getting fresh air does wonders for how you feel mentally. With cannabis? It’s even better. Many people enjoy the fact that cannabis helps you slow down and enjoy things, and a medicated walk through your local park may be exactly what you need to find the perspective and boost you need. Even just getting your hands in the dirt in your garden, especially if you’re growing what you’re smoking, can be especially uplifting while you’re medicated. Nature is a good thing, especially when you’re feeling low, and that includes spending time with animals. Get outside with your dog, play with your cat indoors, or if you’re in a position to take care of an animal long term, consider adopting from a local shelter.

Additionally, there are dozens of different ways to toke now; no longer restricted to edibles or smoking flower, people have the ability to medicate in the way that works best for them, from microdosing tinctures to powerful effects from concentrates and extracts. If you’ve been feeling like you’re maybe not getting the same benefit from cannabis that you were before, it may be time to consider trying out a different way to consume it, or a new product. It may surprise you how big of a difference it makes; if you’ve been consistently smoking joints, trying out a dry-herb vape or tinctures may offer a new type of sensation or relief, as different cannabinoids may be more easily consumed than when they were immediately combusted. If you’ve wanted to try dabs in the past, but never had the chance, give it a try while you’re spending more time at home, or needing more relief from longer work hours; changing things up helps keep things interesting, and keeps you from falling into the same old routine, day in and day out.

Cook something
This last one may be common sense, but it really does make a difference. For many of us, with stress as high as it is, cooking has become the last thing many of us consider doing after a hard day. Fast food and ordering out haven’t slowed too much since the pandemic first hit the United States, even snack foods from grocery stores have been flying off of the shelves in record amounts. It’s easy to see why; when we’re dealing with serious anxiety or depression, doing anything seems like a chore, especially cooking. Your body needs good fuel to keep running at this pace, however, so if you’ve been feeling extra sluggish lately, try cooking a meal at home, something balanced and healthy, and see if you feel the difference. If you’re cooking for adults only, you might even consider cooking a cannabis-infused meal; not only will you get solid nutrition, but a hefty dose of medicine. The negative emotions that many of us have been grappling with are normal; this is an unprecedented time in human history, and even with cannabis as a solid part of your healthcare regimen, it’s overwhelming at times. I hope that, if you’re feeling especially low right now, that one or two of these small tips helps you find a way back to feeling more like yourself again.
Oklahoma Cannabis Why The Fight Isn't Over
June 26th, we as an industry and community the first two years of Oklahoma’s medical cannabis program. Even in the midst of a global pandemic and unrest across the nation since late February, our state has made great progress and shattered impressive records in a relatively short amount of time. As of June 1st, there were 297,000 patients in Oklahoma with an active license, and just shy of 10,000 business licenses in the state. Those thousands of businesses were able to keep patients supplied with the medicine and products they need during the height of the lockdown in March and April, thanks to cannabis businesses being allowed to stay open for patients.
"DISPENSARIES AND CANNABIS BUSINESSES ARE ESSENTIAL ENOUGH TO STAY OPEN IN THE MIDST OF A GLOBAL HEALTH CRISIS" Think about that: two years ago, members of the opposition to 788 were still screeching about the fact that the bill actually passed by a 57% vote, and many cities were already working on ways to limit cannabis in their communities before the bill became active in August. Now, two years later, dispensaries and cannabis businesses are essential enough to stay open in the midst of a global health crisis. If that’s not dramatic progress, I don’t know what is. OKLAHOMA CHRONIC
| 36
OKLAHOMACHRONIC
That’s not to say that these past two years have been easy, by any stretch of the imagination; as mentioned, many cities and towns took extra steps to try to severely limit location options for dispensaries by passing additional ordinances referring to zoning regulations for dispensaries or grow facilities. When it came time to pass further regulations, some state lawmakers put up a fight, resisting anything that didn’t seem restrictive enough, or that they couldn’t see the benefit of including. Even within the cannabis industry itself, rifts have divided companies and advocates alike, some less-than-quality product has caused setbacks for other businesses, reliable testing hasn’t always been available, and some investors and business owners have sought to get out of the industry entirely, tired of the professional conflicts impacting their personal wellbeing. It’s been a long road to get from a passed bill to a solid industry, and while we’re really beginning to see the fruits of all of that labor, there’s no shortage of work still to be done. From the push for home delivery and more testing transparency, the possibility of an adult-use bill, to continued work in the legislature to protect patients and businesses alike, plenty of obstacles litter the canna-brick road we’ve been skipping down. Don’t get me wrong: there is still plenty of reason to celebrate. We’ve crushed sales record after sales record the past few months here, and the quality of medicine being produced in Oklahoma is only improving. We’re a wildcard powerhouse in the cannabis industry that nobody really expected to do as well as we are, and if anything, that’s one of our greatest weapons in the continued fight for cannabis rights.
What will make a difference moving forward is whether or not patients and business owners become complacent. It’s easy to get comfortable in the success we’ve had thus far, but as we’ve seen, that screeching opposition isn’t completely gone. It’s not enough to simply chat within the industry about changes that need to be made; what will help continue to keep the industry secure and thriving is patients and business owners working with advocates to ensure that the work done so far isn’t overturned or dismantled. Like all good things, it’s taken work to get this far, and it will take continued work to maintain it. One of the biggest obstacles faced by our steadily-growing industry here in Oklahoma is being able to provide patients and businesses alike with reliable testing, and easy access to the results once they’re processed. Earlier this year, the industry even witnessed the first recall by the OMMA when it was announced that a processing company in Oklahoma County had failed required testing of their product. In some dispensaries, test results for the products being sold are not always posted where patients can see them, and even when they’re asked to produce them, they’re not able to show the full results. There are also strong rumors that falsified results have been shown to patients at times, when the product they’re buying is from a different batch. Testing is an important aspect of a safe cannabis industry, in part because it obviously protects patients from potentially unsafe products, but it also helps businesses resolve issues with their products before they get into the hands of patients.

OKLAHOMACHRONIC
While a vast majority of businesses have taken steps to get on board with testing requirements for all of their products made or sold, the few that have resisted or not taken those additional steps to protect patients need to be brought up to speed with the rest of the industry. It seems like a relatively common sense thing to be doing, and it seems obvious that test results should be readily available to the people buying these products, but it’s still something that needs to be addressed in our industry here in some places. At the state level, House Bill 3228 was pushed through the legislature with a rather shocking amount of bipartisan support. 3228 would have allowed deliveries to patients, made first-time cannabis possession convictions punishable by a fine rather than jail time, and also allowed out-out-state residents to obtain temporary medical cannabis cards here.
Despite support from both sides of the aisle, Governor Kevin Stitt, for some reason, opted to reject the bill instead, one day before the final day of the legislative session. Even though the leadership in the House were reportedly willing to take up a vote to override the veto, Senate leadership chose not to challenge the governor’s veto, much to the disappointment of the hard-working advocates who had helped bring 3228 to the legislature. It would have been a substantial expansion on Oklahoma’s medical program, and despite stating that he “supports medical marijuana” during his bid for election, his decision to stop the bill in its tracks says far more about his views towards the plant and the industry. It’s frustrating, to see more inaction on the part of state leadership in regards to a bill that could have improved quality of life for cannabis patients who have been unable to get out as often with the pandemic, and despite the significant ground we’ve gained in the last two years, this has been a stark reminder that opposition is still very much alive and well, even at the top. Despite the idea being tossed around that recreational cannabis could be a lifepreserver to Oklahoma’s overall crippled economy during the pandemic, there’s a real lack of respect from members of the legislature and top state leadership that doesn’t make that seem feasible at this time, at least not with the current pieces on the board.

Even within the industry itself, tensions have been on the rise over the last several months. Advocates that once seemed to be allies have taken differing views on how things should proceed and because of that, have become more enemy than friend. Businesses are taking a more competitive approach than communityfocused, and even amongst patients, toxicity is a word that’s been thrown around more than once. A common perspective people have is that something within the industry has changed, and not for the better. Stress, money, and pressure all affect people differently, and when livelihoods are on the line, it’s not always surprising to see things like this occur, though it’s always disheartening. As a whole, the cannabis industry is a powerful portion of Oklahoma; with the amount of money moving through the industry and the number of people who are now cardcarrying patients, we’re not longer a group that can be ignored. However, before we can make progress elsewhere, we need to get to the root of our own problem; we need to realize that, even with different views on the plant and how things should be done, we’re on the same team here.

Everyone in this industry wants it to succeed, and while it will take more than a few discussions to find a way to bring everyone to the table, it’s only going to succeed if we find a way to become a unified front once again. We, the people, made 788 happen. We’ve brought it this far, to enormous success, with even further to go, and that only happens if we come together. If anything, think of this as a shining example for the rest of the state, and the rest of the country: if Oklahoma’s vast, wide-ranging group of patients with people from all backgrounds and walks of life can get it together for the sake of a common goal for the common good, nobody else has an excuse not to.
"ONE OF THE BIGGEST OBSTACLES FACED BY OUR STEADILY-GROWING INDUSTRY HERE IN OKLAHOMA IS BEING ABLE TO PROVIDE PATIENTS AND BUSINESSES ALIKE WITH RELIABLE TESTING, AND EASY ACCESS TO THE RESULTS ONCE THEY’RE PROCESSED"

THE WORLD OF CANNABINOIDS AND TERPENES
Written By Dr. Pepper Hernandez Ph.D, NHP, NHC, CNHP, CTC
DELTA 3 CARENE There are over 100 different terpenes in the cannabis plant, and while each has its own benefits, the plant has its own biological makeup or epigenetics. When looking deeper we research the cannabinoids, terpenes, and see how they work synergistically together to create the perfect “cannabis fingerprint” for your body system of need. This month we are going to explore the tasty terpene Delta 3 Carene. This terpene is found in a number of plants like rosemary, basil, bell peppers, cedar, and pine. Its aroma is sweet and resembles the smell of a cypress tree. Carene has a sweet and pungent odor, best described as fir needles, musky earth, and damp woodlands combination. Which sounds ideal to me.
When it comes to the medicinal side of Delta 3 Carene, the 2007 study by Journal Phytotherapy Research it seems to be most beneficial in healing broken bones. Carene has been implicated in helping differentiate and stimulate calcium production in bone cells. That gives hope to patients suffering from osteoporosis, arthritis, and even fibromyalgia.

Where To Smoke In Oklahoma Highlighting Cannabis Friendly Places to Medicate WORDS BY PHILIP RODRIGUEZ
I’ve not always seen much of a use for the Zodiac—or for boardshorts—but there are times where it just makes good sense. For example, I’m someone who definitely gets bullheaded when they get an idea in their head; if I envision doing it, I’m going to put my horns down and charge. So, it would make sense that, despite never having been on a kayak a single time in my life, this Taurus got it in his head that it looked like fun and set out to try it. I’m an agoraphobic introvert (and a bit of a misanthrope, to be totally honest), so you can bet I don’t get out much. But even I enjoy a nice trek or adventure in the great outdoors on occasion, and one thing Oklahoma has plenty of to offer is nature. Sure our mountains aren’t very tall, our biggest rivers tend to more closely resemble muddy creeks, and literally every lake is man-made, but dangit some of it is pretty! I grew up near Lake Hefner; I’ve clocked countless miles on the trails at Stars and Stripes park and I’ve discovered countless smoking spots along its banks, so it was my first choice to head out on when I heard how cheap kayak rentals in the city are (20 bucks y’all!). It was a perfect afternoon to float into the middle of a man-made body of water to smoke medicinal marijuana. The wind was light, the temperature was warm but not scalding, and the sky was blue and nearly cloudless. Exactly the kind of day that would almost certainly make me regret not bringing sunscreen later on, but why let that drag me down? I pulled up to Riversport OKC’s Lake Hefner Location about 2:15pm, and found the parking lot mostly empty. I suppose that’s not rare to see on an early weekday afternoon, but I was still excited to know I’d be one of the only ones kayaking on the lake. Maybe because of COVID-related precautions, or maybe because the main building looked pretty tiny, the check-in table was outside in front of the building. A young woman wearing a mask—accompanied by a very good boy that I believe was a service dog—checked me in, made sure I signed my waiver (you do it electronically before you go, super easy), took my cash and pointed me towards the truck that held the rental craft. It had to be obvious I had no clue what I was doing, because I struggled with my life-jacket straps for an embarrassingly long time to get them just right. Despite that, I received little to no instruction from anyone involved. That being said, I’m a 31 yearold man with “resting asshole face,” so I doubt I looked terribly open to receiving advice, and I certainly didn’t ask for any (I’m a Taurus, remember?). So other than the life preserver and a nice push to get me into the water, the young man who helped me didn’t offer much more than a wave. But hey, I’ve seen this on TV: you sit with your back straight, stretch your legs out and get comfy, and… I completely whiffed the water on my first attempt with the paddle and hoped so much no one noticed. I turned around and saw my friend who gave me the push was long gone, so it seemed that yes, my embarrassment was my own.
OKLAHOMACHRONIC
Luckily, I learn fast. And again: I’ve watched a lot of TV, and for some reason characters in television shows often seem to end up kayaking or canoeing. Not as often as people in car commercials, but I digress. I figured out the mechanism of paddling the darn thing, and allowed myself to float away from the marina, past a jetty that looked almost like steps down to the water, and into the middle of the lake. It always surprises me the levels of quiet you can find in little pockets in Oklahoma City and, despite being within sight of the Hefner Parkway, it was almost silent out there. I slipped into my satchel I’d stashed between my feet, sliding out my terp pen and some Palm Beach Sour live hash rosin made by Smith Valley LLC/Lost Roots Hash from the ziploc bag I had stashed them in (I haven’t kayaked before, but I have floated the Tahlequah River). Let me tell you, dabs just hit different when you’re on a kayak in the middle of a lake. After that, I lit up a joint of Goji OG from The Inner Circle Grows’ latest drop at Planet Hollyweed, taking in my surroundings and enjoying the peace I had been afforded. And maybe it’s different if you’re at Lake Eufaula or Lake Thunderbird, but no one got even remotely close enough to me to attempt to ask what I was smoking, and I loved it that way. Yes, I was that guy. The one on his phone, taking pictures and videos of himself in nature, smoking joints and taking dabs while somehow staying balanced on his kayak, gleefully posting them to Instagram, doing just about every silly boat-related thing except my best T-Pain/Andy Samberg impression (I mean, I was on a boat though). And, unlike in a crowded bar, restaurant, or outdoor space, there was no one within sight or earshot of me to judge me. Forget dancing like no one was watching, I smoked and got silly on my kayak because no one was watching. I thought I had spent more time on the lake than the time allotted for my rental, so I hustled slightly on the way back, which of course was into the wind. I kept hearing yelling, and was passed by a couple of young kids on one of those small training sailboats with a motorized dinghy following behind them, with what I assume was a couple of sailing instructors seated in it. The kids were struggling for some reason, and the instructor (who sounded and looked about 18 or 20) was offering more passive aggressive comments about what they were doing wrong than actual suggestions to fix whatever issue they were having. At one point he practically directed them to sail in my direction to help their situation, and it was at that moment that I rued joking with my girlfriend beforehand about how I planned to play chicken with the sailboats. My newfound kayaking skill saved me though, and both my vessel and theirs made it to the docking area without incident or collision (they docked next to me and immediately and enthusiastically told their friends on the dock about how they had fallen in the lake).
My first hint that I had made it back early should have been that my friend from earlier was nowhere to be seen. The “Falling Off of Sailboats Committee” and their friends just stared at me as I attempted to disembark without help, kicking off my black canvas Tom’s (yeah I know, I wore a long-sleeved shirt too. I told you I didn’t know what I was doing) and plunging my bare feet into the water so I could walk the kayak up the pavement. As I gathered my things, my friend from earlier appeared suddenly to take my paddle and ask me how it was. I answered honestly: it was an absolute thrill and one of the best experiences I’d had recently. I got to tell you guys, I might have started going about this the wrong way. If we can find nice places to smoke in nature, and respect them enough to not end up getting smoking bans in these areas from local municipalities, why the heck would we ever need to smoke on a patio at a bar? I’ll take a quiet, meditative smoke break in nature over a loud, cigarette-filled bar any day. But that’s a topic for an article for another month. -- For more info on kayak, sailboat, SUP and other rentals, check out www.riversportokc.com, or visit the boathouses at either Lake Overholser (3115 E Overholser Dr), Lake Hefner (4407 S Lake Hefner Dr), or the Downtown OKC Boathouse District (800 Riversport Dr).

cannabis products in Oklahoma has been filled with lots of new names. As the super essential, ever booming market in Oklahoma grows even more, new Cannabis companies are popping up everywhere. The overall quality of product has increased quite a bit in just the last couple months. This month, I knew I had to give my fellow hash lovers something great so after checking out so many new and already existing hash makers. My instincts did not fail me, and I ended up back where I started with my first pick for the best Hash Rosin. This review is for the Hash Rosin lovers for sure. There’s two types of people in the World, people that like hash and people that love hash. Valley or Lost Roots Hash. Smith Valley is known for its high quality solventless ice water hash Rosin, and of course for using only the best flower for their hash. So, when I told the guys over at Smith Valley I needed something spectacular for this issue, they did not disappoint. Sundae Supreme Ice Water Hash Rosin. Made with flower grown by Cold Creek Cannabis. Sundae Supreme is another hit pheno by Nature’s KISS Love out of Tulsa. Exceptional Hash to say the least, Smith Valley exceeded my expectations as usual. If you had heard the name Smith Valley you have probably also heard the name Lost Roots Hash, they are actually the same company. Smith Valley and Lost Roots merged and took on the main name Smith Valley, but You will still see the Roots name active on social media and if you see the label you will know you’re getting Smith Valley quality. Friends since High School, Michael Valli and Arley Boyd along with Mansour Valli and Nicholas Von Rodenstein make up the team over at Smith Valley/Lost Roots Hash. Boyd, is the hash engineer, but also has another talent in photography, Specifically photographing his product. The photographs used in this review are taken by Boyd. I would like to thank him for taking the time and sharing his art with us.

Smith Valley has a reputation around the Oklahoma Cannabis Market as the local favorites and the guys who simply know great hash. These boys next door have really stood out this last year and have delivered top quality medicine to the patients of Oklahoma. For those of you who have yet to try Hash Rosin, the rosin process comes from pressure to produce a solvent-less hash oil (SHO) via a rosin press or homemade products. This method brings out the product's oil out from its trichome heads, resulting in a high-terpene, full-melt. When executed correctly, the rosin yield will be a golden yellow sap with high potency. Best of all, it only takes seconds. So, essentially Rosin is Hash if the terminology seems confusing. The potency and quality of Hash Rosin is what makes many patients choose it for a real pure cannabis medical product. It is great for pain, insomnia, appetite loss, and many other conditions making it a common choice among medical marijuana patients.

combining high heat and immense
Back to Smith’s Sunday Supreme. The consistency is exactly the extraordinary quality we have come to expect from Smith Valley. Super creamy and light, the tan sand colored rosin is super smooth in texture and lays like whipped ribbons. One of the most notable things about Smith’s hash is that killer consistency. The flavor and aroma are matched and the Sunday driver lineage is presents but a sweet hint of vanilla and a little bit of spice flood your senses and give way to that awesome terp profile. Super smooth to smoke, it is amazing how light it is to smoke. It does not feel heavy or harsh on your lungs at all. The effects are instant and quite intense. The Sativa balance of the strain is evident as the first wave goes directly to elevate the mind and gives quite the head rush sensation. The effect on your muscles and joints are immediate, giving them that deep Rosin relaxation as It is sometimes called. The smell, taste, consistency and of course potency lets you know right away you are dealing with a top top shelf product. Huge thanks to the guys over at Smith Valley/ Lost Roots Hash for always providing a top quality product for patients. If you are a fan of good hash, you definitely want to give these guys a try. You will not be disappointed.
