The Strength of Scholarships Through a Pandemic
With social distancing measures in place during scholarship season, some of our scholarship committees had to get extra creative to deliver the good news to the lucky award recipients. A few of the nearly 800 students receiving scholarships this year had big surprises waiting.
The team behind the OGE Positive Energy Scholarship went all out – quite literally. Gabby Pinto-Ordonez, senior at Edmond Memorial High School, couldn’t believe her eyes when two orange OGE trucks rolled up in front of her classroom windows. “I don’t have words for it. There are no words to express how happy I am and the opportunity that I have here,” Pinto-Ordonez said when presented with the coveted $60,000 award.

Morrison High School’s Trevor Hughes and Southmoore High School’s Lynsey Mendenhall were greeted with similar presentations from OGE.
“We could not be prouder of the role we play in OGE’s scholarship program,” said Nancy Anthony, president of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. “Support for youth and education in our communities is at the core of both of our organizations’ values, and we are grateful to be part of the OGE scholarship program.”
