Basic Process To Rolled Rings Manufacturing If you are new to the forging industry, certain terms like forging, roller rings, forged rings, etc. might leave you confused. Although you will learn these terms in details when you gather adequate experience in the industry, it is always better to know about some preliminary processes and basic terms right from the beginning. This will help you in gaining mastery over these processes. Thus, today we are here to discuss about rolled rings. But before that let us tell you that rolled forging is a metal casting process by virtue of which the thickness of a the metal is reduced by increasing its diameter. Now, the basic process proceeds in the below mentioned directions. 

Stage One: Setting temperature

Whether it is Pot Forgings or rolled forging , the initial process is the same. You have to set the temperature that will help in processing of the metal in your desired shape. Thus, at this stage the metal is placed on the flat die that has been heated to the specified temperature.



Stage Two: Displacing the metal

The second stage of the process involves displacing the metal. However, application of heat at the flat die bed is not enough for that. As a technician, you will be supposed to know that you can to pierce a hole in the scorching upset stock for this. This will result in radical disintegration of the molecular structure of the metal, and would eventually lead to its displacement. 

Stage Three: Pending the unnecessary pierces

Your attempt to pierce the upset stock might result in formation of additional punch outs too. Even the process of metal casting can lead to the formation of unnecessary punches in the metal stock. But you are supposed to remove them in order to ensure that you will be execute a flawless metal shaping process. For this, you have to perform some shear punching operations in the stock.



Stage Four: Casting the metal

Let us tell you that the same process can be used to digging the central hole in the metal that you are shaping. This tire like structure will then be fitted into the die cast and rotated vigorously so that it gains the desired shape. However, just remember that in order to make the work piece rotate you to create the right arrangement. To be more specific, the ring platform should be such that it squeezes the work piece against the OD roll. The OD roll will be majorly responsible for the rotator action. 

Stage Five: The desired shape

At the end of the rotary action, you will get the work piece in the desired shape that you want. The ring will be narrow in thickness and bigger in diameter. Now you can take the roller ring from the mill and subject it to secondary processes of metal casting like heat treatment, close tolerance sizing, testing, etc. CONTACT US: Oklahoma Forge, IncP.O.
