Visiting Music Teachers’ Charity Concert Recital Room, Herbert Music School Come and listen to some of our fantastic Visiting Music Staff performing a varied programme of musical items

Informal Concert Recital Room, Herbert Music School Come and hear musicians from all years play a wide variety of instruments

Thursday 11th May 4.30pm (Pre-Prep & Years 3-5) 6.15pm (Years 6-8) Strings Workshop Recital Room, Herbert Music School A chance for our string players to shine and to receive encouragement from a professional musician

Monday 15th May 6.00pm

Choir Recital Recital Room, Herbert Music School Come and hear the Chapel Choir perform music both sacred and secular from their repertoire


Friday 9th June

Eastbourne College Prep Schools’ Jazz Day A selection of pupils will take part in this annual event at Eastbourne College

Sunday 11th June 6.30pm

Joint Prep Schools’ Evensong Canterbury Cathedral Come and hear our Chapel Choir and the Choir from Wellesley House singing together

Milner Voices - Parents Choir

All parents are welcome to attend the ‘Milner Voices’ choir which meets in the Music School each Friday between 9.00 - 10.00am. It is an informal, relaxed choir which sings a variety of music and is directed by singing expert Kerry Boyle


DRAMA & DANCE Tuesday 25th April

Dance workshops for Year 4 We are joined by trainee dance teachers from Canterbury Christchurch University as pupils explore ideas for their production later in the term

Saturday 13th May

Kent Festival of Speech & Drama A group of pupils take part in this competitive festival at Lorenden Prep School

Thursday 8th June 2.30pm

The Enchanted Forest Year 4 pupils present their take on famous tales that have taken place in forests and woods


ART & DESIGN TECHNOLOGY From 5th May

From 8.30am Year 8 Advanced Art & Design Technology Summer Exhibition Herbert Music School You are cordially invited to the Year 8 Advanced Art & Design Technology Summer Exhibition 2017

Wednesday 7th June

Visiting Artist Catherine Tutton will be visiting the school to work with Year 4 as part of a cross-curricular topic on Kenya

Friday 16th June

K’nex Challenge Year 6 will be set a K’nex challenge and be required to work as a team to create the best solution. The winning team will be heading to the Regional competition in Rochester later in June


THE JUNIOR KING’s SUMMER ARTS EVENT Across the last few weeks of term you can enjoy a wonderful range of Arts events, that celebrate talent from all year groups of the School. We’ll be combining the Arts at many of these events so look out for more details next term Friday 9th June

Art & Design Technology Exhibition A celebration of creative work from Years 3 to 8. Join us for coffee at 8.30am in the DT block for the opening of the Art and Design Technology Summer Exhibition. Also open on Sports Day 10th June, 10.30am - 3.30pm

Grimm - Year 8 Leavers’ Production The Barn Year 8 pupils present their final play, a modern take on Grimms’ Tales, exploring the darker side of these famous stories

Summer Concert The Barn with pre-concert drinks in the Art & Design Technology Exhibition from 5.15pm Our chance to hearYear 8 musicians for the final time before they move on to pastures new.The Chapel Choir and Orchestra will also perform, as well as several ther ensembles and selected soloists

Year 4 French Spectacle Recital Room, Herbert Music School Year 4 present their traditional end of year show where they perform a series of songs and sketches in French

Junior House Concert The Barn This concert will feature the Junior House Choir, Junior Strings, the Junior House Band and selected soloists

Middle School Concert The Barn This concert will feature the Middle School Choir, Middle Strings, various bands and other ensembles and selected soloists

Year 3 Production The Barn Join us for coffee and croissants in the dining room before Year 3 present their annual update on famous Greek tales and fables

The Pre-Prep Summer Show The Barn In keeping with the theme of the Junior King’s summer ball, this year’s PrePrep concert is entitled ‘Indian Summer’. It will be a rich celebration of Indian culture, music and dance

The Canterbury Tales (adapted by Martin Riley) The Mint Yard, King’s Week Geoffrey Chaucer is alive! Well, almost...Join the cast on a riotous journey through some of Chaucer’s most popular tales. Upper School pupils perform this modern take on the famous stories, with more than a few twists as a group of 400 year old alchemists attempt to bring the famous author back to life. © Martin Riley, 1998. 2.15pm Year 5 trip to Dover Castle OurYear 5 trip to Dover Castle involves a tour of the Wartime tunnels and hospital. This links to our work in Humanities, imagining what it was like to live in Kent during WW2, what Operation Dynamo involved, its historical significance and geographical context

8L visit to British Museum 8L will spend the day exploring the extensive and world-renowned Classical Collections at the British Museum and in particular admire the Elgin Marbles, ahead of a debate on whether their place is in London or Athens

8L visit to The Globe 8L will visit The Globe Theatre to watch an exciting production of ‘Romeo & Juliet’. The enduring themes of young love and family conflict have been updated many times, yet every interpretation proves unique.

Year 6 trip to Lullingstone Villa Year 3 Greek Day Year 6 will go to a real Roman Villa on An opportunity for Year 3 pupils to dress our doorstep near Sevenoaks to see for up and explore life in Ancient Greece themselves how the Romans lived in Kent


Saturday 24th June

Year 5 trip to The Battle of Britain Memorial We will be visiting the Battle of Britain Memorial, where we will consider the significance and sacrifice of the aerial combat over Kent. We will look at the operation planning, geography and also the personal cost


This is a very special term for us as we have now been accepted into The Artsmark community and are working towards our own grading of the award. We have also seen our first cohort of pupils get involved in Arts Award and they will receive their certificates at the end of the year. We are all really excited about these developments that not only celebrate what we already do but help us to develop new ways in which to explore The Arts in school.
