Welcome from the Head Our school is a unique, friendly and very special one and it is a pleasure and a privilege to lead Junior King’s. So much progress, so many achievements and special events have taken place over the course of this excellent year, which have captured the spirit and demonstrated the exuberance, vibrancy and commitment to excellence that is an accurate reflection of daily life at Junior King’s. We pride ourselves in our flourishing school where the children are nurtured as individuals and discover their particular strengths, interests and talents. We cherish real diversity in our school and have a strong sense of community. Today we celebrate our pupils – all of them, their achievements, their love of learning and their enthusiasm. They are the finest role models for our school, which they clearly feel proud to be a part of. Our curriculum is broad and balanced, and the rich opportunities which are offered are extraordinary: everyone at the school is encouraged to try new things and develop skills and talents to share with each other. We offer breadth and depth in all learning and have instilled a positive ethos and ‘can do’ attitude. This year we have enjoyed World Book Day, celebrated fencing and swimming achievements, have supported our girls and boys at the Nationals Finals in hockey, swimming, athletics and netball, have hosted the Primary Maths Challenge and numerous music workshops, have taken part in Language exchanges, enjoyed three services in the Cathedral, have hosted the Kent Festival of Speech and Drama and numerous sporting events, plays and concerts, to mention just a few of the many activities. Educational trips are always a wonderful way to enhance learning and there have been so many this year, both local and abroad. We are benefitting from our evercloser liaison with The King’s School departments, enjoying a number of visits from our Senior School colleagues to speak to our pupils. None of this would happen without the dedication and hard work of the whole staff team, both support and academic, at the school. We continue to strive to develop the school in exciting and different ways. Our academic results are an important indicator of the academic health of the school, with most of our Year 8s moving on to The King’s School. We look forward to future announcements about a new covered swimming pool on our site.

We all highly value the creative side of our school and Junior King’s continues to flourish in Music, Art, Design Technology, Drama and Dance. Our pupils show such outstanding talent in these creative areas, guided and supported by our superb staff. I am very grateful to my committed team of staff who work with energy, inspiration and dedication. The Friends of Junior King’s build supportive family links through their social functions, advice and networking, and every family is welcomed into our supportive community. A true JKS pupil is one who values relationships with others, showing genuine support and encouragement for others’ joys and achievements. I regularly witness this in the daily interactions at our school. The children all experience personal achievements and relish the opportunities they are offered. We want our pupils to be modestly confident, well-rounded individuals who are well-prepared for life beyond prep school. Our values of courage – resilience and perseverance, creativity, collaboration, curiosity, modesty, kindness, empathy and commitment are at the centre of all that we offer as a school, and we expect our pupils to always use these values and their gifts to benefit others. By instilling these values, our pupils make our school and the world, a far better place. For those leaving today, they should feel proud to move forward with positive and happy memories of a very precious and formative time in their lives.

The School Song – “Here at Junior King’s” (WHISPERED) The sound of distant footsteps … echo from the past …Every step, a beating clock … becomes louder than the last …Whether faint, loud … or yet to come each step plays its part - Every stride, fall, … leap … is echoed in our heart. Hands down, Heads up, Start running and you’ll leave the ground, Aim high, Start now, Sit back and let me tell you how: This school isn’t built out of simple stone, This school wasn’t built by anyone alone, It’s time you rubbed your eyes to see – This school is so much more than you or me. We’re joining in the chorus, The voice that always sings, Acer non effrenus, Here at Junior King’s. Standing on the shoulders, Of those who’ve gone before, Through friendship and wisdom, We all can do much more. If you’re given, when you’re growing, generosity and care, then you’re giving, and you’re sowing, the same everywhere, since our Lady Milner gave her house to share, her kindness and love is still there, Joining in the chorus . . . . If you’re looking for the answer, and you don’t know what to do, be patient, take a chance, be sure to see it through, Lord Milner believed in what we all can do, his trust lives within me and you. Joining in the chorus . . . . . So be humble and be willing, everyday of your life, if you stumble, be forgiving, wherever the strife, set the example for King’s to live on, let your voice be part of the song! – Joining in the chorus . . . . Joining in the chorus . . . . at Jun’r King’s! Composed by Tim Finnis
