SPORT
Aims and Ethos Our primary goal is for pupils to enjoy sport at whatever level they choose to play. We aim to provide opportunities at both elite and participatory levels. The sports programme promotes key educational values that include fitness and a healthy lifestyle. We encourage pupils to adopt a balanced approach to winning and losing, both as an individual and as part of a team.
Expert Coaching A strong coaching structure exists across all sports, and the pupils are very fortunate to be coached by the likes of Jen Wilson South African international and triple Olympian hockey player and Assistant Coach to the Scotland Senior Womens’ team, Mark Ealham former Kent and England cricketer and Assistant Coach at Kent CCC, and Jon Williamson England Rowing team manager at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. A wide choice of sports is available each term and many pupils go on to represent their county, region or even their country.

Sports Tours Sports tours are considered an important part of a King’s education. Aside from the sporting benefits, an overseas tour provides a valuable insight into different cultures and lifestyles. Recent tours have included Cricket and Netball in the West Indies, Rugby and Hockey in South Africa, Football in Spain, and Lacrosse in the USA.
Excellence Programme This programme is offered to Sports Scholars and others who also display commitment, enthusiasm and potential. The programme is led by triple Olympian Jen Wilson, supported by other members of the PE and Sports Department.
