T.A.K.E. FOUNDATION SEMINAR Ages 12+ • One 2-Hour Session Free
This program represents a living legacy in honor of Ali Kemp. Ali, a 19-year-old Leawood resident, was murdered while working at an area residential pool in 2002. The goal of this program is to raise awareness and give women the self-protection skills needed to avoid becoming the victim of a violent crime. Participants learn basic techniques for thwarting an attack which could save their lives. This free program is being presented by the Ali Kemp Educational Foundation (T.A.K.E. Foundation) in cooperation with the Johnson County Park and Recreation District, Leawood Parks & Recreation, Blue Valley Recreation Commission and Olathe Parks & Rec. Pre-registration is required. T.A.K.E. Seminars are funded by the Ali Kemp Foundation which is supported by donations. In order to continue to offer these educational self-defense seminars, a donation is appreciated. The suggested amount is $12. Location: Olathe Community Center

MAHAFFIE Welcome to the 1860s Kansas Frontier! Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm was the home of J.B. and Lucinda Mahaffie and their eight children. The Mahaffies operated a 320-acre farm located right on the busy Santa Fe Trail, a mile east of Olathe. They served meals to stagecoach passengers and other travelers in the cellar kitchen of their home. Discover what life was like for the Mahaffies, their neighbors, and travelers when you visit the original 1865 limestone farmhouse, operated today by the City of Olathe Parks and Recreation department. From Wednesday to Sunday, Memorial Day to Labor Day, weekends in April, May, September and October and many other days of the year the farm comes to life! We invite you to:
FALL HOMESCHOOL DAYS
• Take a stagecoach ride • Watch the blacksmith shape iron • Smell what’s cooking in the kitchen, and maybe even get a taste • Haul water, help with laundry or other chores • Visit our heritage breed horses, chickens, pigs, oxen, goats and sheep • Enjoy 1860s games • Explore the farm buildings and exhibits in the Agricultural Heritage Barn and Heritage Center
