HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
w Gr S U H WIT
The strength of our company is always going to be our people. At Oldham Goodwin Group (OGG), we believe in empowering our employees and promoting from within. Our Hospitality Division has numerous employees that exemplify our core values and in 2018 we had over 25 internal promotions. Here are a few of their stories. Latoya Daniel has been with SpringHill Suites Dallas Rockwall since its opening in July 2017. Latoya began her career with SpringHill Suites as a Housekeeper and quickly showed a determination and work ethic that was hard to ignore. Throughout 2018, Latoya was initially promoted to Breakfast Host and then later promoted to Banquet Captain where she oversees the hotel’s banquet events in their almost 5,000 square feet of meeting space. “Latoya has a consistent desire to learn and always makes herself available for any new opportunities. Latoya stays very focused when given an assignment and wants to complete it to the highest level possible. Her greatest strength is an open mind to learn.” - Karen Coughlin, General Manager | SpringHill Suites Dallas Rockwall From room set-up to making sure that banquet event orders are successfully executed for client and guest satisfaction, Latoya involves herself in all details of the department. “I never thought I would be in the position I am in now, but I am blessed to be where I am. I love being able to interact with guests and be the person they see throughout the day. Building those relationships makes this job great. I work with a great team and with them, anything is possible,” says Latoya. Not one to rest on her laurels, Latoya has shown a willingness to assist anywhere she is needed in the hotel. Whether that means helping with housekeeping or assisting with busy bar business, Latoya is a prime example of hard work and determination. “When I was struggling at the beginning, [Oldham Goodwin Leadership] told me to keep my head up and keep working hard. I did that and it has definitely paid off. For me, the hard work and promotions mean I have succeeded,” says Latoya.

HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
Caitlin Helm has been with Oldham Goodwin for just less than a year. While working to finish her Business Management degree from Texas A&M University, Caitlin was hired as an intern at Best Western Premier Bryan College Station. Despite her relative newness to the industry, she proved herself to be ready for the challenges of the hotel business. Throughout 2018, Caitlin was promoted from her intern position to a Front Desk Agent and eventually to her current role of Operations Manager. “Caitlin has an impressive understanding of how hotel business should operate which has allowed her ample success. Whether it is in laundry, behind the bar, answering sales calls, making up a room, or checking a guest in, her aptitude to learn, adapt, and grow has not been stifled and she continues to impress those around her,” says Brandon Kazmierski, General Manager of the Best Western Premier Bryan/College Station.
Caitlin Helm
As a recent college graduate, Caitlin has her eyes set on being an Assistant General Manager within the next year and eventually making her way up to working in a corporate level of hotel management. She knows the long days and the “off hours” will get her to where she wants to be. She credits having a strong team and a supportive company as reasons for her happiness and success. “The hours aren’t always fun, but we have a great team. I really enjoy everyone I work with. Things are better because of everyone around here. One of the reasons I stayed after graduation is because I know OGG and BWP valued growing their employees and growing from within. Being in an environment like that is important to me especially coming straight out of college,” said Caitlin.
Wendy Ibarra has been with Oldham Goodwin for almost five years and began her career in the Housekeeping Department. From Housekeeping, Wendy was quickly promoted to an Ops Manager and then to an Assistant General Manager role in Fort Worth. In 2018, Wendy was promoted from her Assistant General Manager role to a Property Support Manager (PSM) position with the corporate team. As PSM, Wendy serves as the support system to each hotel in roles that can range from helping a General Manager bridge management and sales turnover to serving as an Interim General Manager. It is a responsibility that she does not take lightly. “Wendy is confident, but humble and a fast learner. She is one of those people that you can give a task and expect excellence, even if she is untrained on the item. Her passion for success and excellence is balanced by a genuine care for those around her”, said Noel Mayes, Director of Operations. “My ultimate goal is to be a Regional Manager. Although being a GM has been short term, it has taught me of what I am capable of and left me hungry for more. Being promoted in different capacities over the years with OGG has been extremely flattering. It’s also a great experience to share with employees in hotel level wanting to move up and realizing it is possible, letting them know hard work truly pays off”, said Wendy.

COMMERCIAL MANAGEMENT
From 1882 to 1934, John Jolly Jones operated a farm and dairy on a 195-acre tract of land, which includes the site of the new Jones Crossing retail center. The Jones family also ran a small grocery store on the property which became known as “Jones Crossing” because it was located where the original State Highway 6 crossed the Southern Pacific railroad tracks to connect to what is now known as Wellborn Road. In 1961, the land was purchased from family heirs by Mr. Jones’ grandson, Edsel Jones and Dr. O.D. Butler, Jr., his business partner and brother-in-law. Edsel earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Texas A&M University and achieved success as a teacher and head football coach at A&M Consolidated High School. He went on to become a real estate developer with Jones Crossing being his first real estate investment purchase. Dr. Butler, a nationally recognized beef cattle expert and head of the Animal Science Department at Texas A&M University, established agricultural operations at the Jones Crossing site. Along with his wife, Jane Gray, and their son, they ranched as Butler & Son, affectionally called “The largest ranch in the city limits of College Station”. Heirs of John Jones, Edsel Jones, and O.D. Butler, Jr. continue to serve communities in the Brazos Valley region to this day, carrying on the Jones-Butler legacy of resourcefulness and innovation. Most recently, Stratus Properties developed the site into an H-E-B anchored retail center with Twin Liquors, Angel Nails, Super Cuts, Oishi Sushi, College Station Dental and Sports Clips already open. MOD Pizza, Orange Theory, Chicken Salad Chick, Threads Boutique, CapRock ER, The Joint Chiropractic and Zero Degrees are coming soon. Chick-fil-A will also be joining the growing list of businesses at Jones Crossing. Oldham Goodwin Group can be reached at 979-268-2000 for leasing inquiries.
