UC DAVIS AUGUST 30

August 2014

Dear Stanford Football Season Ticket Holder, Thank you for supporting our program and being a valuable part of one of the best football teams in America. Over the last four years, our team has had unprecedented success at home with 26 wins and just one loss; including being undefeated the last two years. We have great coaches and great players, but our home field advantage has been a large part of our success. We need you to continue to make Stanford Stadium a loud and intimidating environment starting August 30 against UC Davis, and continuing September 6 against the USC Trojans. As you know, Stanford game days are always fun, exciting and great for families. If you can’t make it to one of our home games, make sure that your seats are used by someone in the Stanford community by logging onto gostanford.com and transferring or donating your tickets. My dad, Willie Shaw, coached at Stanford in the 1970’s and again in the 1990’s. He told me a long time ago that one of the best things about Stanford men and women is that they respond to challenges. The early challenge for 2014 is to sell out our stadium for every game! Make it a great environment for Ty Montgomery, Kevin Hogan, Henry Anderson, Andrus Peat, Jordan Richards, A.J. Tarpley and the rest of the team to do what they do best, which is play the exciting and physical brand of football that I know you enjoy, while playing the game the right way … THE STANFORD WAY! See you this fall!

David Shaw Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football Head Football Coach

YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Stanford University’s dedication to excellence in academics and athletics is unparalleled. The commitment to this pursuit includes adherence to all NCAA, Pac-12, and Stanford rules governing intercollegiate athletics by Stanford coaches, staff, student-athletes, and fans. It is our responsibility to provide you, our loyal alumni, friends, and donors, with information to assist you in understanding the complexity of these rules. Compliance with NCAA, Pac-12, and Stanford rules requires constant vigilance on the part of all of us associated with Stanford University, and knowledge is the first step toward compliance. Stanford University is proud to have your loyal support, dedication, and enthusiasm for Stanford Athletics. As we strive for continued excellence, we must always seek the highest standard of ethical conduct. With your assistance and cooperation, we are confident we can continue to meet this goal.

GENERAL REMINDERS FOR STANFORD FANS Who is a Stanford representative of athletics interests? The NCAA recognizes you as a donor, booster, or representative of athletics interests if: • You have participated in a group that promotes Stanford Athletics (e.g., Buck/Cardinal Club) • You have made financial contributions to Stanford Athletics, including the purchase of season tickets • You have assisted in the promotion of Stanford Athletics • You are or were previously employed by Stanford University • You are a Stanford alumnus or alumna Who is a prospective student-athlete? A prospective student-athlete (PSA), often referred to as a “recruit,” is any student who has started classes for the 9th grade (or 7th grade in men’s basketball), including students in prep schools and junior colleges. The status of PSA applies regardless of whether Stanford is recruiting the individual. This status of PSA also remains after he/she signs a National Letter of Intent or made a verbal commitment to Stanford. What is an extra benefit? An extra benefit is any special arrangement by a Stanford employee or representative of athletics interests to provide to a prospective student-athlete, a current student-athlete, his/her relatives, or his/her friends that is not permitted by NCAA regulations. Receipt of an extra benefit immediately jeopardizes the eligibility of a prospect or current student-athlete. Examples of impermissible extra benefits include, but are not limited to: • Cash or gifts (including birthday, graduation, senior day or other occasion) • Use of a vehicle, scooter, bicycle, etc. • Payment for or arrangement of transportation costs for student-athletes or their family

CONTACT WITH STANFORD RECRUITS AND STUDENT-ATHLETES Contact with Stanford Recruits NCAA rules limit the type and occasion of contact between recruits and fans, donors, boosters, or alumni. NCAA rules allow you to: • Notify Stanford coaches about potential recruits in your area • Attend high school athletics contests • Be involved with local, established youth sports clubs that may include prospects, provided no solicitation on behalf of Stanford occurs NCAA rules prohibit you from: • Contacting a recruit or his/her family/friends on or off the Stanford campus. This includes contact through social media, emailing, texting, and calling. • Making arrangements for recruits (or their family/friends) to receive gifts or any type of financial assistance • Providing free (or at a reduced rate) tickets to attend a Stanford event • Evaluating a recruit on behalf of Stanford Contact with Stanford Student-Athletes The NCAA governs the relationship between a current student-athlete and representatives of athletics interests. In general, an athletics representative may not provide any tangible benefit or make special arrangements for a student-athlete, his/her family, or his/her friends that are not available to the general student population. In addition to the extra-benefit regulations, please keep in mind the following rules regarding our student-athletes: • Student-athletes are not allowed to sell or trade complimentary tickets they receive through Stanford Athletics • Student-athletes are not permitted to sell or trade their Stanford athletic gear, apparel, or gifts received from their athletic participation, such as championship awards

• Free or reduced costs for housing, goods, meals, or services

Stanford Season Ticket Holder, Thank you for your commitment to Stanford football as a 2014 season ticket holder. We recognize and appreciate the support that your backing provides to our student-athletes, both on and off the field.

Last season, for the first time in Stanford Football history, every home game was sold out. This created a significant

home field advantage for our team — which is 26-1 at home over the last four seasons — and made for an amazing game day atmosphere for fans to enjoy.

During the offseason, Stanford Athletics further invested in Stanford Football by expanding the ticket sales and customer service staff in order to ensure this level of success continues. This year, each and every season ticket account holder has been assigned a personal service representative to improve your experience with Stanford Football. As a season

ticket holder, if you ever have a question or concern, please give us a call at 1-800-STANFORD and select option 1. In

addition, our sales team is focused on continuing to build new relationships with potential fans and inviting them to take part in the great experience and tradition of Stanford Football. Please help us keep our home field advantage by direct-

ing your friends who are looking for tickets to call us at 1-800-STANFORD and select option 2. Your support will help us sell out Stanford Stadium for a second consecutive year!

We are looking forward to another great season and the opportunity to help enhance your Stanford Football experience. Go Cardinal!
