• Self-guided exploration of historic buildings and landscapes • Meet costumed men and women portraying daily life in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries • Allow 2.5 – 4 hours

MUSEUM OF EARLY SOUTHERN DECORATIVE ARTS - (MESDA)

• The finest collection of Southern decorative arts: furniture, paintings, ceramics, textiles, and metalworks • Represents the area from Maryland to Georgia, the Carolinas and Kentucky to Tennessee • Guided tour; allow 1 hour

TANNENBERG ORGAN TALK & DEMONSTRATION

• Largest organ in existence built by Moravian organ builder David Tannenberg • Performance by a professional organist on the 1800 Tannenberg organ • Learn the history of the organ and hear the dramatic story of its restoration • Behind the scenes tours of the organ’s hand-pumped bellows • Enjoy a chance to play the organ yourself • Allow 45 minutes – 1 hour

TWILIGHT TOUR

• A guided tour of the Historic Town of Salem, led by costumed staff • Tours scheduled between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. • Compelling tales and vignettes about the residents of early Salem • Allow for 45 minutes to an hour • Choose to end your Twilight Tour with dinner at Salem Tavern

HISTORIC ST. PHILIPS AFRICAN AMERICAN CHURCH COMPLEX

• Guided tour of the oldest standing African American Church in North Carolina, the reconstructed Log Church, and the Graveyard • Learn about the contributions of African Americans to Salem • Allow 1 hour

GARDEN TOUR

• Walking tour of selected award-winning gardens, led by a staff horticulturist • See authentically restored Moravian gardens, each representing a different era in Salem’s rich history • Learn about and view the heirloom plants in Old Salem’s period gardens • Allow 1 hour

• Structured, guided tours illustrating eighteenth and nineteenth century Moravians’ life-skills • Tours incorporate hands-on activities for students • Based on North Carolina Social Studies curriculum • Grade-appropriate learning experience • Teaching materials and video available on website • 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. HEIRLOOM PUPPET THEATER • Enjoy professional puppet presentations • Allow 1/2 hour
