In 18o7, Christian Winkler came to Salem as the town’s new baker. Upon his arrival, the original bakery was renamed “Winkler Bakery.” The Winkler Bakery soon became known for having the finest baked goods—from fresh breads, tea cakes and sugar cakes, to the original, paper-thin Moravian Cookie. Moravian Stars! The iconic Moravian star began as a 26-point star design created for a drawing lesson in a Moravian boys’ school in Niesky, Germany in about 185o. Today’s version has been adapted from the original and is displayed year-round, but especially during the Christmas season from the first Sunday of Advent through Epiphany on January 6. We love Moravian stars! They add a special touch to the holidays and add sparkle all year long.
