STARTING FIVE

1

Ole Miss looks to move to 3-0 on the season when they host the Southern Jaguars out of the SWAC. Southern will be the third consecutive opponent from the SWAC for Ole Miss. The Rebels opened the season with a 92-67 win over Grambling and defeated Mississippi Valley State, 91-38 in their last outing.

2

Senior forward Tia Faleru became the 26th member of Ole Miss’ 1,000-point club with 19 points against Mississippi Valley State on Sunday. Faleru now has 1,001 career points and is eyeing the 1,500 mark. Should Faleru get to 1,500 career points she will join seven other Rebels to reach the mark.

3

The Rebels are looking for their third consecutive win and to move to 3-0 for the first time since 2012-13. Entering the Southern game, Ole Miss has won its last three homes games dating back to last season. Ole Miss is 10 wins from the 400th women’s basketball win at Tad Smith Coliseum.

4

Freshman Shandricka Sessom tallied her first career 20-point outing with 21 points against Mississippi Valley. The Byhalia, Miss., native also tallied a game-high nine rebounds, a rebound shy of her first career double-double. Sessom’s 21 points gave Ole Miss a 20-point scorer for the second consecutive game.

5

In Sunday’s contest the Rebels forced Mississippi Valley State into 46 turnovers. It was the fist time since the 2006-07 season that Ole Miss forced more than 40 turnovers. The 46 turnovers are thought to be a school record for turnovers in a game and the most turnovers forced at Tad Smith Coliseum.

OLE MISS HEAD COACH MATT INSELL

I

n his first season as head coach at Ole Miss, Matt Insell laid the foundation for a promising future. Beginning his career with the Rebels, Insell led Ole Miss to a 10-6 non-conference record, including a seven-game win streak - the longest win streak for the Rebels since the 2007-08 season. Ole Miss’ non-conference schedule was highlighted by a matchup in Waco, Texas, where the Rebels took on the Baylor Bears, who had reached the Sweet Sixteen a year before. With Ole Miss leading in the final minutes, Baylor battled back to spoil the upset, giving fans a glimpse of the success to come under the vision of Insell.

What They Are Saying About Matt Insell: “We are thrilled to welcome Matt Insell to the University of Mississippi and the Ole Miss family as our new women’s basketball coach,” Bjork said. “Our search to find the right head coach took us to all corners of the country as we attracted top coaches from the basketball community. Coach Insell has coaching in his veins and was destined to be a head coach from day one. Coach Insell is viewed by many in college athletics as the top assistant coach in the country and his expertise in game planning, strategy, recruiting, and the student-athlete experience has been well chronicled.” Being part of a re-building job at the University of Kentucky has enabled Coach Insell to gain the necessary requirements needed of our new staff as we re-capture the legacy that is Lady Rebel Basketball. He is the perfect fit to make this happen and we are excited he is joining our team. Ross Bjork , Ole Miss Athletics Director “I am elated for Matt. He made the decision when he graduated high school to forgo playing collegiate basketball and concentrate on becoming a Division I head coach. I am very excited about the journey he has made. I don’t know of a better place to build his legacy than the University of Mississippi. Matt is a fantastic fit for the program. Deb and I, along with our entire family, are very proud of him.” Rick Insell, Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Middle Tennessee State

After battling through the always challenging SEC schedule, the Rebels entered the SEC Tournament at the No. 14 seed, determined to take the momentum from a regular season finale victory over Auburn into the postseason tournament. Drawing the No. 11 seed Arkansas, the Rebels took care of business with a 63-62 victory, giving Ole Miss a statement win for Insell’s process. “I didn’t look at it as rebuilding, I looked at it as a process of getting us back to the top,” said Insell after the SEC Tournament win. “A win like this helps you get there.” Insell also led the Rebels to wins over instate rival, Mississippi State to give the first-year head coach his first SEC victory. In addition to the Rebel’s battle with 2014 Elite Eight participant, Baylor, Ole Miss posted victories against women’s basketball powerhouse, Louisiana Tech and sent the Ole Miss senior class out in style with a Senior Day overtime win over Auburn at Tad Smith Coliseum. Insell, who was responsible for the guards while also having recruiting and player development duties, served as the top assistant coach and helped UK ink three top-10 recruiting classes and seven McDonald’s All-Americans. During his time at Kentucky, Insell helped develop guard A’dia Mathies, a two-time SEC Player of the Year and All-America candidate, and Bria Goss who was named SEC Freshman of the Year. Prior to Kentucky, Insell was the Director of Basketball Operations at Louisiana Tech under Coach Chris Long. Before that, he was considered one of the top AAU coaches in the country, coaching the Tennessee Flight, a Nike Elite Travel Program, for three years. Insell earned valuable basketball experience while attending the University of Tennessee from 2001-2005. He worked closely with both the men and women’s basketball programs, serving as a student assistant/video coordinator under former men’s head coach Buzz Peterson and as an instructor at Pat Summitt’s summer basketball camps. The Shelbyville, Tenn., native transferred to Middle Tennessee State during the 2005-06 season where his father, Rick Insell, is the head women’s basketball coach. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in political science from MTSU in 2007. THE INSELL FILE Full Name: Matthew Ollen Insell Birthday: September 22, 1982 Hometown: Shelbyville, Tenn. High School: Shelbyville Central HS College: Middle Tennessee, `07 Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Political Science

“Ole Miss made a great decision when they hired Matt Insell. Matt is an excellent college basketball coach. I believe you have to be strong in many areas to be a quality college basketball coach. You can’t be one dimensional. Matt is an outstanding recruiter, a tireless worker in the area of player development and very knowledgeable from an X and O standpoint. He always had a great feel regarding in-game adjustments that will prove valuable to him as a head coach. More important than any of that to me was his friendship to our family. He is like a member of our family. He was incredibly loyal to the Kentucky program,

and we benefitted greatly from his contributions over the past five years.” Matthew Mitchell, Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Kentucky

first half and never looked back en route to their 10th straight win over Mississippi Valley. Freshman Shandricka Sessom led all scorers with 21 points, becoming the first Ole Miss freshman to score 20 points this season. Faleru and Kelsey Briggs joined her in double figures with 19 and 12 points, respectively. Sessom led Ole Miss on the boards with a game-high nine rebounds, just one shy of her first career double-double. The Rebels got after it on the defensive end, forcing Mississippi Valley into a whopping 46 turnovers. The 46 turnovers mark the first time since the 2006-07 season that Ole Miss has forced 40 or more in a single game. Ole Miss made the turnovers count scoring 51 points off of Mississippi Valley miscues. Insell has challenged the Rebels on the defensive front and it showed in today’s game as Ole Miss held the Lady Devilettes to just 38 points, the fewest points for an Ole Miss opponent since the 2009-10 season when Centenary also scored just 38 points. Tia Faleru Joins 1,000-Point Club Tia Faleru became the 26th member of Ole Miss’ 1000-point club with a pair for free throws midway through the second half of the Mississippi Valley State game. Faleru entered the 2014-15 season needing just 41 points to eclipse 1,000 points. She now sets her sights on 1500 career points and just needs 499 to become one of six players in program history to reach that mark.

GAME 3: OLE MISS VS.SOUTHERN 38 points, the fewest points for an Ole Miss opponent since the 2009-10 season when they held Centenary to 38 points. The Lady Devilettes had more turnovers than points … think about that! Catch Those Thieves! In keeping with the defensive theme, Ole Miss racked up 23 steals against Mississippi Valley. The 23 steals are the most for Ole Miss in the Matt Insell era and were just five shy of the team steals record at Tad Smith Coliseum. Last season, the most steals Ole Miss had in a single game was 13 vs. Louisiana-Monroe. Rookies Shandricka Sessom and A’Queen Hayes led the way in the steals department with five each, accounting for 10 of the Rebels 23 steals. McCray Dishes Senior Danielle McCray showed off her passing abilities with a career-high four assists vs. Mississippi Valley State. Her four helpers led the Ole Miss squad. Margin O’ Victory The Rebels 53 point margin of victory over the Lady Devilettes was the eighth widest margin of victory in school history. It’s also the widest margin of victory since the Rebels defeated Winston-Salem State by 55 points during the 2009-10 season. Mississippi Valley State’s 38 points ties for fifth fewest points allowed.

Drik Goes For 20 After scoring just two points and going 0-4 from the field, rookie Shandricka Sessom scored a game-high 21 points against Mississippi Valley. She became the first Ole Miss freshman to score 20+ points in the regular season and her 21 points gave Ole Miss a 20-point scorer for the second consecutive game.

Movin’ On Up the Charts After becoming the 26th 1000-pint scorer Faleru will continue to reach milestones during her senior year. In addition to ranking No. 26 on the all-time scorers list, she also has 21 career double-doubles which ranks seventh all-time at Ole Miss. With 10 more double-doubles she will move into the top 5 all-time.

They Shoot, They Score The Rebels aren’t having trouble scoring this season as they are averaging 91.5 points through the first two games of the season. Through the first two games, Ole Miss has had six players reach double figures highlighted by 20-point games from Tia Faleru (23 pts vs. Grambling) and Shandricka Sessom (21 pts vs. Miss. Valley). OLE MISS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL 2014-15 the conclusion of the basketball season. In other words, Sisk is FAST! Youth Movement There is a youth movement in Oxford this season. The Rebels welcomed six freshmen to the squad this season, the largest freshman class since the 2010-11 season when Ole Miss had eight freshman and 10 new faces. Of the 14 players on the Ole Miss roster, only five have played more than one year of collegiate basketball. #YouthMovement Rebel Rewind Ole Miss peaked at just the right time to close the 2013-14 campaign. The Rebels won two of their last three games, including an SEC Tournament victory over Arkansas. Additionally, two of their last three losses were by a combined five points, both coming on the road. Rebels on the Airwaves Ole Miss’ regular-season games can be heard on WTNM Supertalk Mississippi (105.5 FM) or Q93.7 FM with the pregame show starting 15 minutes before tipoff. Graham Doty, in his fourth season, will be on the call along with former Ole Miss great, Armintie Price-Herrington who will do color for road contests and will serve as a color analyst for Ole Miss’ home SECN+ contests. Game updates via Twitter will be available all season at @ OleMissWBB. All home games that are not on TV will be streamed online on SECN+, which will be available on the WatchESPN app. SEC Network Changes the Game This summer the SEC launched the SEC Network, an entire network devoted to the SEC. The first women’s basketball game will air on the Network on Nov. 16 when Alabama hosts Duke. The game will be the first of the 96 women’s basketball games scheduled to air. The Network’s weekly game coverage will include a doubleheader every Thursday and a Women’s Game of the Week on Monday. The SEC will televise 188 total games between men’s and women’s basketball in addition to carrying more than 100 games as digitally exclusive SEC Network events available on WatchESPN and SECNetwork.com Rebs on Television Ole Miss will be featured on television 10 times and on SECN+16 times. the 2015-16 conference slate. Ole Miss is 12 wins away from its 400th win at the Tad Pad and boasts a nearly 80 percent winning percentage on its current home court. Loaded Schedule The Ole Miss squad will take on some quality completion in the non-conference before jumping into the alwayschallenging SEC slate. Ole Miss takes on C-USA powerhouse, Middle Tennessee, Utah from the Pac-12 as well as Western Kentucky and a rematch of last year’s thriller with Baylor in the non-conference slate. The Rebels will also renew its in-state rivalry with Southern Miss in 2014-15. Captain, My Captain The Rebels will be captained by senior Danielle McCray (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and junior Gracie Frizzell (Little Rock, Ark.). Both players are serving as captains for the first time in their careers. From All Over The Land Ole Miss’ roster is comprised of players from eight different states. The Rebels hail from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Oklahoma, California and Maryland. Sophomore Shequila Joseph holds down the international contingent hailing from London, England. The Magnolia state is the most represented state with five Rebels representing Mississippi.
