Hardware/Software Sinus Haus: mixed-use housing project in Vienna
8.600 m2 Residential Olena, Niklas and Mischa
Past years many people moved to Vienna, as it is known as a one of the most comfortable cities in the world. A lot of housing projects are emerging in suburbs, but also near the main train station. The idea of this project and competition was to develop a flexible structure, which could be used and, lately, re-used to most popular city functions: housing, hotel, dormitory, office, gym and school. The plot and the volume was predefined by local architects, however, after analysis it was considered to change the shape, because the given volume had a lot of unsuitable and sharp corners. Wet zones (bathrooms) were placed in the middle; and the optimal column grid was created after analyzing suitable floor plans for different functions. Facade was divided into smaller blocks, which could break down the scale and make the entire complex look like multiple houses standing together, as it is in the old city center. The courtyard was, however, united by walkable curved balconies to create the private entrance for each unit and therefore gave the name of the project: Sinus House.

Ski Drive-In Hotel Dragobrat, Ukraine
30.000 m2 1350-1374 m 16%
In the western part of the Ukraine there are the Carpathian mountains, with its interesting hiking, cycling trails in summer, and skiing slopes in winter. Dragobat ski resort has natural advantages for long skiing season. The resort is usually booked during the season but lacks good hotels. Usually tourists prefer to rent the accommodation as close as possible to ski lifts, because they do not want to waste time walking in uncomfortable boots to the entrance of the resort. If the hotel is at the foot of the mountain, they do not have to rent a car. It’s even better if tenants could drive straight into their rooms from the slope. This concept became the main idea of the project. The building is located on an inclined site, so finding the optimal heights for slabs and room entrances became a special task. The materials of the walls and roof correspond to the appearance of this region. In the project, the Kielsteg wooden panels were used for roofing. They look aesthetically indoors, so they don’t need to be covered. The shape of the building is determined by the movement of the skier, which creates conditions for entering the rooms and descent to the ski lifts. It is also possible in summer by bicycle.

Foldable pavillion Design to Built: origami canopy
The main aim was to create a foldable kiosk/ pavilion through the Grasshopper algorithm that would be suitable for easy transportation and construction on site. Based on Yoshimura’s pattern, the kiosk folds from a flat to an almost 3m deep structure, which is perfectly suitable for a coffee point or street festival pavilion.
