Olio and Farina opened on Blake Street in York last year and since then we have popped into their delicatessen shop a couple of times to pick up Italian artisan food. Their own pesto and supplies of parmesan cheese is particularly good. Today, after making an early visit to the City, we called in for a break to rest our weary feet. We arrived just as a table became free in the busy cafe and I grabbed it, while Paul went to place our order. We both went for a latte coffee and pastry, as it wasn’t long since breakfast. As we waited, I noticed the menus are starting to look quite grubby and so I used my mobile phone stylus to turn each page as I read them. The food being served on the tables around us, looked fabulous. Authentic and well presented, I only wished I was hungry enough to try something more than coffee and pastry. Anyway our order was served up and the coffee was very good indeed, along with the pastries which were clearly fresh. This place is a great place to stop off for authentic Italian food, but my only reservation is around the grubby menus, which I think let the place down. The food and service itself is otherwise impeccable. Pryordurkin rating 3 stars. Tel: 01904 670885 Share Me: Hotel California London
