Mike Warren on

wrapping up warm

As a man of the sea I often find myself out against the elements, much the same as any other sea faring person, however I have found the secret to survival. Wrapping up warm.

The sea and her assets can be a cruel mistress, so I always make sure that I am well stocked on clothing before my maritime adventures! Whether it be summer or winter, a base layer of thermals is worn, followed by a woollen t-shirt and a polo shirt. It is also important to allow your self freedom of movement when at sea, especially fishing; to solve this, your final two layer (my final layers) always consist of a zipped jumper and a high vis coat.

Your Rod is your most important tool. It is an invaluable instrument for all fishermen,

But what steps do you need to take to ensure your Rod performs every-time?

Importance of a well maintained Rod

By following these simple step, your rod will be capable of rising to any challenge cast at it. 1. It is recommended that you wax your Rod between use. 2. Use your Rod regularly to build its strength, try using it in every day circumstances to train both the rod and yourself on how to use it.

rope Twine Twindling Tales

A rope is a linear collection of natural or artificial plies, yarns or strands which are twisted or braided together in order to combine them into a larger and stronger form, but is not a cable or wire. Ropes have tensile strength and so can be used for dragging and lifting, but are far too flexible to provide compressive strength. As a result, they cannot be used for pusing or similar compressive applications. Rope is thicker and stronger than similarly constructed cord, line, string, and twine. Construction Rope may be constructed of any long, stringy, fibrous material, but generally is constructed of certain natural or synthetic fibres. Synthetic fibre ropes are significantly stronger than their natural fibre counterparts, but also possess certain disadvantages, including slipperiness. Common natural fibres for rope are manila hemp, hemp, linen, cotton, coir, jute, straw, and sisal. Synthetic fibres in use for rope-making include polypropylene, nylon, polyesters, polyethylene, Aramids and acrylics . Some ropes are constructed of mixtures of several fibres or use co-polymer fibres. Rope can also be made out of metal. Ropes have been constructed of other fibrous materials such as silk, wool, and hair, but such ropes are not generally available. Rayon is a regenerated fibre used to make decorative rope.
