Creating synchronicity between integrated planning and successful execution

Led and fully owned by your executive team, Integrated Business Planning (IBP) is a common sense process for effective decision-making. It allows senior management to plan and manage your entire organization over a 36-month horizon, aligning strategic and tactical plans each month, and allocating critical resources, people, equipment, inventory, materials, time and money to satisfy your customers in the most profitable way. IBP represents the evolution of Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) from the supply and demand balancing process developed in the early 1980s. Today it is a process that drives the alignment of all functions across an organization, models and creates readiness for alternate outcomes, drives deployment of strategy and enhances collaboration across supply chains. Very different to its predecessor, Integrated Business Planning focuses on the 4 to 36 month horizon enabling increased visibility and unlocking the ability to identify vulnerabilities and opportunities ahead of time to make the necessary changes and deliver maximum bottom line results. Execution is managed in a different, supplementary process called Integrated Tactical Planning which works in sync with IBP.

Why be good when you can be great? IBP enables businesses to achieve: ▶ Revenue growth. ▶ Reduced costs. ▶ Launch on time and to success. ▶ Portfolio profitability and margin growth. ▶ Improved customer service. ▶ Organizational visibility of planned product changes, future demand from sales and marketing and supply chain performance. ▶ Early identification of gaps in the business plan and strategy deployment, creating time to close them. ▶ Alignment of functional operating plans and financial projections with ‘one set of numbers’. ▶ Simplification of the budgeting or annual planning process. ▶ Application of scenario planning and modelling to areas of uncertainty or impact. ▶ Creation of transparency and clear accountability across the organization.

System support for Integrated Business Planning and Execution Accelerating and difficult to predict disruption for global manufactures generates the need to know sooner, act faster and adapt more quickly to changing business conditions. Global manufacturers still often lack a single view of their end-to-end business plan and its real-time execution. The Oliver Wight ‘CEO Survey’ showed that two-thirds of CEOs said they don’t use an integrated planning process to run the business and an even greater percentage (78%) said the leadership team do not use it to deploy the company’s strategy. By combining the power of people, process and tools, organizations gain visibility enabling them to plan proactively and perform effectively.

The way to look at this is by adopting the IBPx framework.

Latency “moments of truth” vs. potential business value

Business latency is the time that your organization wastes from the moment when the unexpected event affecting future performance happens to the moment in which your organization acts on this information by either 1) leveraging the opportunity that this event represents, 2) discarding the event as useless after analyzing its impact, or 3) implementing actions to mitigate the impact of this event. A very simple way of defining what is a relevant event is one with the potential of impacting the results of your business plan.

Integrated Business Planning and Execution (IBPX) Framework A closed-loop process for improved planning and execution

What is the IBPX Framework IBPX provides end-to-end system planning capabilities for companies that allow them to reach their long, medium and short-term performance goals. IBPX transforms plans into execution and monitors this execution near real time to detect unexpected events. Once a new plan is generated incorporating this information, a new cycle starts by transforming the new plan into action using the enterprise execution systems. Ultimately, business decision latency is reduced or eliminated completely.

Oracle’s Integrated Business Planning and Execution (IBPX) Solution for Manufacturing Industries is one of the few enterprise solutions capable of combining best-in-class Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) and Supply Chain Planning (SCP) with IoT, AI and prescriptive analytics to deliver a complete Integrated Business Planning and Execution solution that adapts to the demanding needs of global manufacturers.

For the first time, advanced technologies like machine learning and prescriptive analytics create the opportunity to integrate real-time information into planning, eliminating decision-making latency.

Avoid future performance gaps and leverage new opportunities seamlessly
