THE VSSL STORY
VSSL wasn't created in a boardroom; it was born out of necessity. I used to make early versions of VSSLs as a kid growing up in a small town in Northern Canada. We were little and had to travel light, so we got to be pretty good at making the smallest, most practical kits to carry our essential gear! I remember using empty PVC pipe to store all our condensed outdoor essentials to keep our packs organized and efficient.
Fast forward 30 years and my own kids started heading out into the woods. I wanted to show them how I "prepared" for outdoor adventure when I was their age so I started making initial prototypes for what would become VSSL.
Soon after that, I started VSSL with the hopes that my outdoor experiences would not only help prepare and guide my kids, but also anyone who loves the outdoors and that want peace of mind on their adventures.

Our drive to create runs deeper: We also care about fostering a positive impact in our community. That’s why, since we first started, we’ve partnered with Communitas, which is a not-for-profit that serves young people with special needs. It's often hard for these young folks to find rewarding, sustainable employment, so we decided to help make a change. Each VSSL has unique, yet practical contents for your outdoor adventures.
After all the parts of a VSSL arrive at our warehouse in Abbotsford B.C., they get carefully assembled by some of the exceptional young people who are a part of the Communitas program. We love having them as a part of the VSSL family, and we’re extremely proud of their work. We’ve maintained a product defective rate of less than 1% in the entire 5-year history of the brand.
