Welcome to Wonder Magazine Editor’s Letter I began my Photography A Level with a desire to study Fashion Photography. I find it facinating how fashion houses and brands worldwide can take their products and present them in a way that entices the consumer to buy them. This was the driving force behind my Celine advertising campagin, seen on pages 3 to 5. I wanted to capture the simplitic yet powerful nature of Celine’s campagins. It was also important to keep a luxury feel to the images, as Celine are positioned in the low accessability and high value sector of the market. Another area I was inspired by early on in my A Level was the concept of natural beauty. I created a series of portraits on the theme of ‘Anthropods’, using makeup to highlight the vibrant colours found in creatures such as butterflies and bees. These images can be found on pages 7 to 10. Shortly after completing my ‘Anthropods’ project I began to look at advertising campaigns by fashion houses such as Dolce and Gabanna and Gucci. I was intrigued by the way that they combined Fashion and Documentary themes to create their campaigns. This lead to a project which highlights the merger between the concepts of high fashion and everyday life. This creates a series of images that the observer can relate to, which can be seen on pages 11 to 14. During the course of my A Level I was also inspired by the concept of movement and water. I wanted to bring a sense of life and mobility to a piece of clothing. I found that submerging my model in water created a textured and almost mysterious feel to my images. This project can be seen on pages 15 to 18. Finally, I was given the opportunity to shoot in the vibrant city of Barcelona. In this project I captured upcoming fashion trends, as well as focusing on the beautiful architecture and famous attractions of the city. These images can be seen on pages 19 to 32, as well as on the cover. By combining my images into a fashion magazine I am also exploring another area I am interested in, design. I hope that my magazine captures the themes of professonalism, simplicity and cleanliness. Olivia Painter

Arthropods Created by Olivia Painter This project was largely inspired by the concept of life. After visiting Rebecca Louise Law’s exhibition at the Broadway Gallery, I was facinated by the concept of natural beauty and the vibrancy of the colours found in insects. This facination was further supported by the work of Zoltan Vass and Elias Hove assisted by Tessa Farmer. This lead to a project which incoroprates themes of fashion, beauty and bugs. I used then current makeup trends such as the use of glitter, metallic, ireidesent and futureristic styles to compliment the colours found within the arthropods. I chose to represent butterflies, ladybirds and bees in my project, as a wide variety of colours are found within those species.

Barcelona Created by Olivia Painter In late September of 2017 I was given the opportunity to visit the vibrant and deeply cultured city of Barcelona. This trip lead to the development of a project, which once again combines the genres of fashion and documentary photography, to capture the culture of Barcelona through the latest fashion trends. I was inspired by street style photography, especially those found in Vogue. I liked the effortless yet structured feel to those images, which was something I wanted to emulate within this project. The images presented in this project were taken at various popular attractions around Barcelona, including Park Guell and Font Magica.
Wonder Magazine Last Words I began this project with an intellecutal curiosity surrounding the concept of ‘Wonder’. Through my magazine I have come to learn that this word has many values. It creates a strong feeling of mystery and questioning, which I feel encapsulates how creating a magazine felt to me personally. Wonder also evokes feelings of beauty and hope, which created a nice setting for my magazine and work. Through creating my magazine I have learnt intangible skills. I now have a deeper understanding of layout and spacing, as well as the challanges facing commercial photographers. Their need to constantly consider the positioning of a image in relation to the gutter and margin is something I understand now more than ever. This will be particularly useful if I choose to pursue a career in the advertisement industy, as in order for a brand to be seen as luxury and premium their advertising must be impeccably placed to create a sense of sheer perfection and desirability. I feel that as a result of this process I now appreciate the importance of concepts such as composition, layout and positioning. Olivia Painter
