The Riverside Gallery

A garden style gallery designed through the translation of "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte", including galleries and observation platforms

Individual Work 2021 Autumn-8 weeeks Type:Gallery Instructor: Leilei Sun Location:L'Ile de la Jatte,Paris,France

Study for A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte In the 1880s the lower-middle classes f locked to the Grande Jatte, an island in the Seine River in the northwestern suburbs of Paris, for a riverside stroll and a picnic on Sunday afternoons. This was the kind of subject matter that the Impressionists had made fashionable, but Seurat was far from embracing t hat ar t movement ’s pursuit of t he f leeting and spontaneous. He made more than 70 preliminar y oil sketches and drawings for this formalized image, with its careful composition and emphasis on simplified geometric forms. By analyzing the visual and perspective effects, combined with the specific area of the location in the painting, redraw the character's position plan in the original composition. Combined with manuscripts from different periods of Georges Seurat, draw timelines and motion trajectories of different characters with varying durations of appearance.

By defining the angles of the sun and shadows in the sketches, the time for each artwork is determined. The movement trajectories of the same characters are then confirmed through comparisons of common features. A vertical section of character movement is plotted against the distance from the riverbank on the horizontal axis.

Location

The site is located on the easternmost north bank of Île de la Jat te by 'A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte',which is now an open park. Most of the other buildings on the i s l a nd a r e h i g h- end r e s iden t i a l areas, mixed with some high-end restaurants and cafes. The entire isla nd is con nec t ed t o t he ot her bank of the river through three main bridges. All gallery buildings are built on the grassy slope on the left side of the road depicted in 'A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte'. The park is divided into two parts by Pont de Levallois, with green lawns and jogging trails on the west side, a hard paved square on the east side, and a tiny water observation spot at the end that is only suitable for three people to stand at the same time.

Locatinon

Gran Canaria is one of the seven Canary Islands owned by Spain that sits 100 km off the northwest coast of Africa. In 2021, Gran Canaria has become the most popular Canary Island for digital nomads and a favored remote work destination worldwide. The Canary Islands depend on desalination to maintain their economy and the lives of their citizens. The first desalination plant in Europe was inaugurated in Arrecife (Lanzarote) in 1964.Tap water in Gran Canaria comes from the desalination due to lack of local water sources.

Digital Nomad Trends in Las Palmas Tap Water Quality

2022

Las Campanas

Desalinated tap water combined with chlorine often results in a taste that many people find different or poor.At the same time, the large influx of digital nomads has exacerbated. In the Canary Islands there are 300 desalination plants, 35% of the total in Spain, and only 30 are public; It is the place in the world with the highest number of desalination plants per square meter, says Peñate. However, it is also one of the least consumed, and changing that contradiction is one of the challenges for Emalsa CEO Mercedes Fernández-Couto. “One of the great concerns and a great challenge is the conception that the water in the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria canal is not drinkable.”

The filtering galleries called Las Campanas to capture the subalveal waters of the ravines became widespread. "Las Campanas" Valley Nomad Neighbor

Water mines widely drilled in the arid areas of the East and North of the Island.

The galleries of Canarian waters were in all the Canary Islands, which numbered 1,572 units.

Desalination represents 47% of households consumption, with an annual increase more than 16% .

General Concerns

The water problems in the Canary Islands are closely related to the scarcit y of natural resources and the high population densit y, in addition to the peculiar island orography. That is why water has conditioned the development and distribution of its inhabitants.

Container of Emotion

A cultural center in Moon Bay Park of Suzhou, including gallery, library, commuity media center.

Strategy&Visions The site is located on an empty grassland in the Yueliangwan Commercial District of Suzhou Industrial Park, surrounded by high education districts and commercial office areas. The southwest is the second largest lake and a wetland park in Suzhou city.Integrating with the natural landscapes along the lakeshore, the museum’s design defines nodes of activity connected by pedestrian routes that extend from the city through the surrounding parkland into the roof of the building.Divide the venue into 25 units and evenly allocate different functions, which correspond to the four main 'emotional zones' around the venue. After opening a gap in the direction facing the city street, rotate the central block to strengthen the interlocking and linking between different functions. Move the block inward in a location with a landscape surface, leaving space for interaction bet ween the crowd and nature. The functions within the building correspond to the existing functional zones around the site, and the positions and areas of different functions are allocated according to different functional requirements. Divide the repainted characters into four layers based on their distance from the riverbank. And analyze the different views of the people in the painting from the opposite bank of the river, as well as the visual communication between the people in the painting and each other. Each space representing different emotional dominance is designed with an opening that looks like a city, connecting the openings of each emotional space through a large roof and landscape walkways on the roof. This allows people to understand every emotional space without entering the building. These openings act as windows in relatively quiet emotional spaces, ensuring that the quiet emotions in the space are not disturbed by external factors while meeting observation needs; In more noisy emotional spaces, it manifests as landscape corridors or open platforms, which are connected by rooftop or rooftop walkways to form closed flow lines, providing a rich destination for city walk.

Emotion Zone T he pr oje c t i s pa r t of a ver y open u rba n la nd sc ape. For t h i s wea lt hy pr og r a m, t he objective was to weave relationships between very different architectural elements. The agora connects blocks as different as a current music scene, a media library, music rehearsal spaces, a Youth cultural center, music and recording st udios, dance rooms, and a c reat ion and rehearsal space. The challenge was to bring them all together while taking advantage of the unusual proximity of such cultural services. If emotions are compared to pigments and the same amount of pigment is poured into different blocks, there will be pigment overflow due to the different volume of the blocks. At this time, the overflowing emotional pigment becomes a gray space that interacts with the external environment.
