01 A DATUM OF LIBERTY BRISBANE HALL OF DEMOCRACY Year: 2019 Type: Academic Work Site: Brisbane, Australia Instructor: Maree-Elizabeth Lewis & David Nielsen Partner: Andita Rifayanti
There is no greatest feeling of being able to liberate and feel liberated. Hall of Democracy is designed as a datum of Brisbane political and social reform which evokes the state of being free within society. The building’s core idea is originated from a struggle to find the powerful symbol of democracy and the current restrictions imposed by authority. A modern pavilion-type building sitting next to its immediate historic neighbour, is a datum of change. It embodies the reinvention of democracy’s symbol through individual liberty. It is a building with three storeys and high sloped roof giving a sense of dignity, competing with masculinity of Queensland Government building across the street. It is executed in timber, concrete and bricks which pays tribute to the past and the process of transformation for the new development of Queens Wharf.
Physical Model by Olivia Dewi and Andita Rifayanti The model view is from the intersection of QUT entrance, Alice Street and George Street.

02 ONCOMING JOURNEY BENOWO AGRICULTURAL CENTRE Year: 2020 Type: Academic Work Site: Benowo, Surabaya, Indonesia Instructor: Mirko Guaralda & Helena Piha
Benowo Agricultural Centre is based on a pragmatic idea of experiencing a journey in unusual farming building, which combines all three functions - sustainable farming, learning, and living. It gives a new vision which can prompt and allow dreams to transform a conservative farming into a vertical landscape. It also enables reliable production of fresh and healthy products where users can experience the farming process through integrated educational and commercial areas.
Exterior Render South Elevation View The render shows staff accommodation building which is attached to the agricultural centre.

03 MODULAR NETWORK TORONTO AFFORDABLE HOUSING Year: 2020 Type: Idea Competition Project Site: Toronto, Canada Group: Agnes Lee and Chi Nguyen Modular Network acts as a social regeneration for Toronto’s parklands while introducing affordable and personalised alternatives to the city housing challenge. With the current 13% of the city area as parklands, Modular Network structure aims to introduce an additional layer to the landscape, forming an interconnection between the architecture, community, and nature. Indeed, inspired by the Metabolist Movement, Modular Network sees the development of affordable housing in urban areas to be an ever-changing organic system which will assist the local community and its future progression. This is illustrated through the elevated structure and cubical form which allow Modular Network to introduce various possibilities underneath the development namely market, hospitality space or sheltered playgrounds. Thus, this assists in developing local entrepreneurs and job opportunities.

04 PEOPLE-CENTRIC VIGOUR NGAGEL CITY MASTERPLAN Year: 2020 Type: Academic Work Site: Surabaya, Indonesia Instructor: Mirko Guaralda Ngagel is a powerful city with strong identity and deep heritage spirit which is highly influenced by its type of urban settlement, kampoeng. Urban growth and transformation appear to worship hi-tech and profitable urban functions which disregard kampoeng as the datum of city’s development. Ngagel City Masterplan preserves the city’s history, identity and culture, by restoring the spirit of people and kampoeng with people-centric redevelopment. This masterplan is intended to improve the quality of living which cherishes physical-social connection, inclusive society, permeability, and green mobility.

05 WITH LOVE, AA SUMMER SCHOOL Year: 2021 Type: Publication Work Instructors: Sent Folder (Sophie Lanigan and Anna Tonkin) Guest Tutors: Martha Swift, Nick Woolley, Max Volfneuk, Cream Projects, Post- Publication, Honey Long and Prue Stent Publisher: Post- Publication Since the pandemic began in 2020, the distant with loved ones forged intimate connections through wider networks - a letter in the mail, or a DM online. ‘With Love’ Unit in AA Summer School Program, proposes reconnection with the space through the pursuit of writing and drawing. Over two weeks, the program has covered six modules (With Love, With Touch, With Words, With Sound, With Drawing, and With The Internet), each focus on a different medium of communication. The workshops provided opportunities to test ideas, rethink the relationship to space and how to communicate, which will be compiled as a zine of illustrated mixed-medium letters.
A postcard to Jakarta (Published in ‘With Love’ Zine) Portrait drawing of a loved space which has intimate connection. Experimental writing of autofiction in a form of 500 words letter.
Dear Grandma, As a nomad, I had found it hard to settle in a place; one that I’d created on my own. I had always had a thought of transience, an impermanent feeling, which left the places I lived in with little trace of human intervention. I always thought I was being pulled in between my own place and our home-our home where you always woke me up with jokes over the inevitability of death (which often scared me!). In the city I landed myself in, I could not simply throw around jokes about death. Death had come to find us. I don’t want to scare you but Grandma, we had to lock ourselves inside from a disaster creeping in our mind. So I shut the door behind me and crawled weakly inside my room, crying over our home that smells like fried chicken. But life must go on, Grandma, as you said when I fell down from my paddle. I still hadn’t found a home to replace ours, but a wistful longing to be free, had turned into a fanciful musing of creating my own habitat. I found myself immersing my body in the linearity of realms, to share a space with organisms which I thought were extinct. So I grew affection over a space that gives me a peculiar comfortability of the present. It sits in the ambiguity of two worlds. It has never been outside nor inside. I was bewitched by its ability to disperse the norm of a space, which was a compromise between human’s limitation and desire. Sooner or later, the space I was fond of had been my new world to reconnect with the outside. I had a dream feeding myself a salad bowl from the lettuces I watered every morning. A bird startled me from the dream I had last night, and convinced me to watch the dark sky fade away from the interstices of buildings. I sometimes moved Mike, my Monstera, to the area that dimmed the sun. It usually watched me destroying a bowl of porridge while crying out of thirst. During the day, I would put on my boxing gloves and punch the harsh wind as if I was in a battle. I was indeed in a battle of my own; finding the simplest things to wake me up from the hardest time. Perhaps, there was a time when you thought I had forgotten you. But no, Grandma, I haven’t forgotten a single bit of our home that we built when I was in my mother’s womb. I dismantled any belief that this kind of moment had changed me to see the world I have been living in. I took control over the space, manipulated and shaped my world with some intimate details. I transformed habitual experience into a sentimental attachment to a place, as I did to my balcony. So perhaps, Grandma, you should try to do the same while staying at home. Yours, O.
