Portfolio 2014

Page 1

The designs illustrated in this portfolio exhibit a dedication to a thorough design process and a love of functional design It is imperative that the design of these projects not only responds directly to its brief, site and client, but is also practical and has a comprehensive understanding of how humans will use and interact with the internal environmenLThe approach taken in the design process pursues the mantra 'form follows function' and the designs are often logical and linear rather than conceptual This approach allows for attention to be direct towards planning and spatial organisationstrategies and resolution in the details Attention has been given to the consideration of how the key elements of the design work with each other on a construction level, allowing for an exciting exploration of materiality This understanding is reinforced through the investigation of the design in three-dimensionality model form. The work displayed in this portfolio demonstrates a progress in learning, design capabilities and skill, and reveals a keen and eager approach in developing a more refined and sophisticated design process

ABSINTH BAR, MEMBERS ONLY seoul A GRANOr 01 SAN ROCCO Vf Nlcr ITAI Y

The driving force behind this design was the site particularly the structural anatomy of the Scoula Grande di san Rocco The spacial organisation relies on the inherent grid of the building fracturing the interior. AI the core of the design's philosophy is the notion of human interaction. and an understanding of how people interact, and the different types of social groups resulted in a hierarchy of private semi-private and public zones AI the centre of the vast room lies an oversized bar dominating half of the space. The public and private sealing zones are located along the perimeter of the room in the form of public banquet seating and private pods with seating inside and on top There is a specialised VIP bar and seating area in the Del Albergo Materiality was another carefully considered aspect of the design, conveying the exclusive and salacious atmosphere the client wanted The design features a unique cacophony of materials that have been inspired and chosen by the materiality of the Main Hall and Del Albergo Lighting has been considered and employed to distinguish public from private as well as indicate the presence of social interaction within the bar environment

Sensored lights add an interactive quality to the design. Not only do they contribute to a exclusive and salacious atmosphere the lighting explicitly represents the social interactions between patrons Furthermore the lighting helps to clarify boundaries between public and private domains
