orry I’m lateeee” squeals a bundle of blondeness. I’m interviewing newbie British talent on the block Georgia Garr and she flies towards me for a friendly hug. If you haven’t heard of the 19-year old singing sensation, you’ve literally been hiding under a rock for these past four months. Londoner Georgia Garr rocketed to stardom when she started posting a series of cover songs on YouTube and was spotted by none other than mega-famous singer and producer Jay-Z. “I couldn’t believe it when Jay came across my videos, I mean who would’ve thought that little old me would be blessed with this amazing opportunity?” says the excited teenager. “He [Jay] contacted me and asked me to fly out to the States for a trial recording practice - I of course said yes!” Georgia then tells me about her whirlwind adventure across the pond, which led to
her being signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label. The rapper also manages the likes of Rita Ora, Timbaland and Kanye West. Last month she released her single, Fighter, where she worked with Pharrell Williams, and it flew straight to number one where it stayed there for 6 weeks. “Working with Pharrell was a dream come true. He’s so talented and it’s amazing to be given this opportunity,” she says in disbelief. “I couldn’t believe my debut single went to number one! I am a lucky girl right now.” She tells me that Fighter is about her battle with anorexia and depression in her early teens. “I had a tough childhood”, she admits. “But I’m stronger now and want to encourage my fans going through what I did that there is hope and that you have to be positive to overcome it.” She already has 3 million Twitter and Instagram followers- she’s only been in the spotlight for four months!

So how does the 19-year old cope with her new found fame? “It’s been really weird and surreal actually. Just the other day I was shopping in Primark on Oxford Street when all of a sudden a swarm of giggling girls screaming my name came up to me and asked for selfies with them- it’s bizarre” she laughs. Just the other month, Georgia was invited to London Fashion Week and the after parties to party with the models and A-Listers. She attended Mulberry’s showcase, Christopher Kane and Ashish’s shows. “OMG the whole week was crazy. I was mingling with the likes of Cara Delevingne, Alexa Chung and Suki Waterhouse having a whale of a time! I love fashion, I love how you can experiement and be whoever you want to be.” “My favourite high street shops are Topshop and River Island.” When discussing her creative idols she said “Rita Ora kills it everytime. She knows how to do rocky, classy and outrageous outfits that I wouldn’t dream about trying!” Due to her demanding schedule, Georgia has been on the road touring for the past three months. “I miss my cats the most. Hugo and Boss they’re called and they’re super adorable. “We like to play all day together, they’re like my little babies.” Riight,...
So any demanding diva moments to date? “I’m a naturally calm and down to earth person so I wouldn’t dream of comanding my entourage to do crazy things for me” she laughs. So what’s next for this pint-sized popstar? “I’m bringing out an album in the next few months called ‘Number One’ and I’ve worked with some of the best artists out there: Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding to name a few. “I’m really proud of the album and can’t believe how lucky I’ve been to live my dream that I’ve been wishing for so long-I have my fans to thank for that, I couldn’t have done it without them.” Georgia’s album, ‘Number One’, will be released 15th December. She joins Labrinth on his ‘Never End’ tour in the New Year. For tickets call 0121629352

Winter TRENDS
by Olivia Stocks, fashion blogger Now the chilly months are upon us, we say a reluctant goodbye to summer and welcome in Winter 2014 catwalk trends- and they sure were good Distinctively down-to-earth yet surprisingly exciting the Autumn-Winter catwalk shows were crammed full of tartan, cosy knits, pretty patterns and coats that rendered Spring and Summer a distant memory.
ion radars as seen on Givenchy’s and Victoria Beckham’s shows. Oversized, tailored and can easily be thrown on with just about anything for that desirable off-duty model look. One thing is for sure, the coat is where it’s at!
For any fashionista worth her footwear portfolio, a statement cover up is always the first focus for the new season and this season and boy, did the designers deliver! All eyes were on the creative coats that were modelled down the catwalks; Céline’s headliner button-down coats, Balenciaga’s cocoon-shaped ensembles and Ashish’s crazy patterned faux-fur coats were all pieces that can be easily worked into a AW14 wardrobe. The classic trench coat took first prize as it was seen cavorting down the majority of catwalks with that nonchalant attitude that’s swept over the fashion industry. Not for you? Don’t panic… The humble boyfriend jacket is back on our fash-
Just when we thought that 90s Grunge had reached the pinnacle of fashion evolution along came Vivienne Westwood’s twist on the classic tartan print, in the form of preppy schoolgirls. Westwood sent her models down the catwalk wearing tartan dresses with glittery ribbons and bows complete with sparkly tights, channelling our long gone school disco youths. Gone are the days of London grunge, now it’s all about looking ultra girly in tartan, paired with Westwood’s signature chunky boots and heavy black eyeliner, you’re good to go. Winter’s new mood was all about warm tones and wrapping up warm. Colours like burgundy,

gold, burnt orange and camel were all seen in a variety of pretty patterns for the likes of Stella McCartney, Isabel Marrant and Chanel. The new season’s maxim was luxurious comfort that came in the way of alluring knit-wear- rib knit tunic tops and trousers in earthy shades at Céline, Marc Jacobs and Chloé, luxe fuzzy mohair at Givenchy and Marrant, cosy woolly capes at Burberry and who could forget that oversized slouchy jumper-dress that Cara Delavigne paraded down Stella McCartney’s finale in? The choice of Winter footwear consisted of chunky flatforms and exaggerated creepers juxtaposed with delicate lace dolly shoes and glittery kitten heels. Whatever your knitwear choice, it’s time to get your cosy on! THAT charming Little Red Riding Hood sensibility, a heavy dose of practicality and a dash of superhero kepow! There’s a lot to love about the cape and it’s making a play for your wardrobe this season. Once the preserve of strident midwives and Scottish Widow Women, the cape has been redefined by the fashion crowd. Ralph Lauren showcased sumptuous cashmere capes on the autumn/winter 2014 runway; Ellie Saab brought the swoosh factor with a winestain-red version- a go to for anyone wishing to make an uber-glam entrance at any winter event. Hedi Slimane gave the cape his spiky stamp of approval at Saint Laurent which was worn with an abbreviated and Mary Janes- of course. For a casual look, wear your cape with cosy tights and knee-high boots or elevate the look for sophisticated evening glamour and team jeans with some killer heels and you’re good to go!
Nothing heralds the sparkly festive season like a plethora of distinctive prints and Autumn/Winter 2014’s offerings determined a playful new era. The newest trends touched on a retro rebirth from Kenzo and Proenza Schouler’s new rave prints worked in brash colour palettes to vivid oversized zebra stripes at Valentino and Prada’s geometric patterns. Saint Laurent’s rock ‘n’ roll metallic gun prints decorated everything from sixties silhouette dresses worn with patent knee high and glitter boots to feminine silk blouses and jacquard skirts. Designers played on the feminine and fierce and whilst Riccardo Tisci focussed on the butterfly and the leopard, Céline and Balmain reworked those classic leopard spots for an injection of eye-catching glamour worked in heavy wools, metallic jacquards and silks. Black’s new guise this season was khaki. Balmain sent military green structured leather dresses and skirts teamed with safari-inspired leopard prints and gold down the catwalk. For a completely different take on this season’s surprising shade, Isabel Marant opted for inspiration for a glamourous, after-dark alter ego. Super sexy sequin skirts and slinky embellished dresses were seen sashaying down the catwalk, worn in that overly nonchalant way and Givenchy and Céline followed suit with their khaki accessories, which featured suede heels, boots, structured totes and clutch bags- so go on, take the plunge of looking like a twinkling bauble this winter and embrace the metallic trend. One thing’s for sure- we won’t be short of choice this season!
