About Us The London Gastrointestinal Associates were formed in 2005 by a group of colleagues who felt by working together in private practice, we could offer patients an exceptional care in the field of digestive health & gastroenterology. We are a cohesive team of gastrointestinal physicians and surgeons from London's major teaching hospitals including University College, Bart's and The Royal London, Chelsea & Westminster, St Georges & Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals. We have combined expertise covering all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology, offering a complete range of investigations, treatments and operations.

Dr Matthew Banks Matthew is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Director of Endoscopy at University College London Hospital NHS Trust (UCLH), with an academic appointment as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at The National Medical Laser Centre, University College London.

London Gastrointestinal Associates Profile summary • In addition to his wealth of expertise in the field of general gastroenterology & hepatology, Matthew is an expert in endoscopy and in the management of acid reflux and Barrett’s oesohagus. • He leads a world renowned unit at UCLH which is also the largest Barrett's centre in the UK undertaking ground breaking research. He hosts the largest live endoscopy conference in the UK and frequently runs endoscopy courses for consultants to refine their own skills. He is the editor of 'Endoscopy in the Cancer Patient', Endoscopy Editor in The Faculty of 1000 and has written numerous scientific papers, reviews and book chapters. Investigating the mechanisms of diarrhea during his PhD allowed him to appreciate the physiology of bowel disorders including constipation, diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome. • He was able to refine his techniques during an endoscopic fellowship in Sydney and a sabbatical in Tokyo's prestigious National Cancer Centre. He is now one of a select few National Endoscopy trainers with exemplary performance standards, particularly in colonoscopy. A summary of his special interests are below.
