Hello & Welcome

Subjects for change is a group exhibition of recent works showcasing some of the best new talent for a mix of disciplines, from photography to illustration to graphics and fashion design. Change is an everyday occurrence. Although we may fall into patterns, changes occur with or without our knowledge. This show aims to showcase some of the best new talent from a mix of disciplines, from photography to illustration to graphics and fashion design. A diverse mix of content, method and technique is connected by an overriding theme in the form of change; each artist has undergone a series of life changes to be where they are now, at the start of their emerging careers. Most of the artists taking part in ‘Subjects for Change’ have moved locations, jobs, and most importantly, changed their work in order to engage themselves with the discourse of contemporary design today.

Curated by Michael Henley. Designed by Oliver Rone-Clarke.

Here you will find is a mixture of styles, content and approaches to juggling modern day-to-day life and a shared passion for creating and making, be it 2D or 3D, traditional techniques or a collaborative effort that yields this collection, this exhibition presents a chance to see some great work from those who are at the beginning of a long career. Enjoy.

Louise Vickerman Email: louise_vickerman@hotmail.co.uk

I was born and raised in West Bromwich which definitely has an impact on the style of my fashion designs. From an early age my granddad bought me one of the cut out dolls which triggered my passion to design my own outfits and create clothes for them. From then on I have always known that I wanted to be a designer. On finishing my BA Hons in Fashion Studies I have achieved a lot, but my biggest achievement was being short listed for the

Bridal Buyer best student designer award. Over the years I have experimented with not only women’s wear but also men’s and knit wear which has strengthened my knowledge but also widened my horizons. Working in London has definitely opened my eyes to the way the world works and now I feel ready to experiment and collaborate with an artist to produce a one of a kind garment that brings our visionary talents together.

Kirsty Mordaunt Blog: www.kirstymordaunt.co.uk/ Email: kirsty@kirstymordaunt.co.uk

Kirsty Mordaunt was born in 1987 in Essex with an obsession for drawing. After covering all the spare paper at school with various people and creatures from her head she went to Braintree College to study the Foundation Course in Art and Design. Armed with a portfolio she then attended the University of Lincoln’s BA (Hons) in Illustration, then went on to do a Masters in Design because she didn’t feel that she had learned everything yet. She still hasn’t, but doesn’t think anyone else has either.

She stayed in Lincoln, where she shares a studio with a friend and draws much inspiration from the city itself, especially the old houses and wonky lampposts. Her other influences include a dash of steampunk, graphic novels and comics, 2D animation and concept artwork, as well as a large amount of ‘what if?’. She won the Northern Design illustration category in 2009, and was featured in Images 34 in 2010.
