COMMUNITY REPORT 2015/2016
A N O T E FR O M T H E P R E S I D E N T This past season, Omaha Performing Arts celebrated our 10th Anniversary. It was a remarkable year filled with performances by incredible artists and ensembles that moved and inspired us. It was a season that showcased the breadth of what we bring to our community and the lives we touch through the arts. We broadened our Education and Community Engagement activities with the launch of Carnegie Hall’s Musical Explorers program and the growth of the Nebraska High School Theatre Awards program, which reached a record 51 schools across the state. We also updated our two fabulous venues, the Holland Center and Orpheum Theater, to ensure they are maintained at the highest level to serve patrons and artists alike. All of this was made possible thanks to our donors, arts partners, resident companies, the community, and most importantly, our board of directors, staff and volunteers. They made last season such a success. All of us now join together to focus on the future. Sadly, that future will be without our founding donor and friend, Dick Holland, who died in August at the age of 95. Dick will be remembered for his warmth, sense of humor, fierce intelligence and curiosity, and most of all, for his profound impact on our community. His vision and passion inspire us as we enter our second decade. – Joan Squires, President
A N O T E FR O M T H E C H A I R M A N Omaha Performing Arts has made extraordinary progress in its first 10 years, and we had many reasons to celebrate this past anniversary season. We’ve hosted more than 3 million visitors to the Orpheum Theater and Holland Center and contribute $40 million in economic impact annually. More than 220,000 students have experienced our Education and Community Engagement programs. We’re proud to welcome renowned artists and ensembles to our stages. Our organization has transformed our community in this first decade. On behalf of the board, I am grateful to everyone who has attended, performed, volunteered, donated, and worked tirelessly to contribute to this success. We now enter our next decade saying goodbye to our major benefactor, Dick Holland, whose abiding passion for the arts and long-lasting commitment was vital to our achievements. We will honor his extraordinary support by continuing to build upon that great foundation. – John Gottschalk, Chairman
