From The President

Dear friends of Omaha Performing Arts,

Welcome to LES MISÉRABLES, one of those memorable musicals that you can see again and again. We are thrilled that this brilliant production has returned as part of our 22/23 CHI Health Broadway Series.

I’m sure that many of you know the story of LES MISÉRABLES – the broken dreams, love, passion, sacrifice and redemption, set against the backdrop of 19th century France. I’ve seen this show countless times – both on Broadway and here in Omaha, and I always enjoy how each different cast member brings something new to these roles. In this production, Nick Cartell, who launched the 2017 and 2022 tours, plays Jean Valjean, and Preston Truman Boyd plays Inspector Javert. Preston Truman Boyd was last in Omaha playing the same role while Les Misérables was at the Orpheum Theater in January 2020. They are part of this incredible cast, and I’m excited for you to experience their work here.

This Tony Award®-winning musical has been performed to 130-million people in 22 languages, and I think that speaks to the strength of the story and its powerful statement on the human spirit. How can you not feel chills during songs like “Do You Hear the People Sing,” “I Dreamed a Dream,” and “One Day More?”

If this is your first time seeing LES MISÉRABLES, I think you’ll agree that Victor Hugo’s message of heroism, injustice and love, is as important today as it was when it was first published in 1862. And if you’re a returning “Les Miz” fan –welcome back – you already know what’s in store!

Thank you for joining us!

Joan H. Squires President, Omaha Performing Arts

Did You Know: It takes 11 semi-trucks to move LES MISÉRABLES from city to city, taking approximately 21 hours to load in and eight hours to load out. The show uses approximately 1,200 costumes and over 88 wigs, with about 40 wigs being used every night!
