Walk For Me house of
miyake-mugler By : Antwyone Ingram
Boasting a plethora of icons & legends, an unshakable reputation, and a house family full of immaculate faces & bodies – The House of Miyake -Mugler has certainly stood the test of time. Nearly 2 decades after its birth, the house still “sits” all competition effortlessly. How do you point out a Mugler you ask? Seek a chiseled facial structure & physique, an earth shattering runway walk, or an “ovah” performance not aimed at snatching a ballroom trophy but more-so to tell a story – that ladies & gentlemen is Miyake-Mugler. I took the time to Interview Zoliy of the New Florida Chapter of The House of Miyake-Mugler and inquired about his vision of his growing house in the Florida Ballroom Scene, his work as an HIV activist, and a brief history about the House of Miyake Mugler.
Antwyone Ingram for OMG!: Zoliy, How long have you been actively involved in the ballroom scene? Zoliy: I have been spectating balls since 1997, and walked my first mini ball at the original Club house in NYC on 28th street back in 1998, I walked Face got my tens and was processed ( at the time I knew how to smile where I could cover up my chipped tooth, I walked my first ball later that year and as I walked down the judges panel Monica Prada at the time asked me to Smile, I gave her my regular smile and she said no " SMILE" and as I began to smile her chop went up! I remerged in 2004 when my mentor Michael Roberson Maasai Miyake-Mugler now NYC Father Garcon asked me to be a founding member of the House of Maasai and to walk All-American Runway.
OMG!: How long have you been in the House of Miyake Mugler? Zoliy: I have been a member of the House of Miyake-Mugler since 2005 with a departure in 2009 and rejoined again in summer of 2010.
OMG!: Who initially brought you into the ballroom scene? Zoliy: It was my friends that I met through the House of Latex Project that brought me into the scene. Thierry Miza, Cunty Carlos Lang Miyake-Mugler, Amori Revlon Miyake-Mugler, and Mistery Dior.
OMG!: Who are yourFather/Mother figures in the scene? Zoliy: My Mentor Michael Roberson My Father James Icon My Mother one of the Founders of the house Gramz Miyake-Mugler
OMG!: Of course all of your house members are your children, but any other Children in the scene? Zoliy: Leo Evisu, Miyson Ebony, Andrew Johnson, Mini-Me Milan, Kimora Miyake-Mugler, Sole Miyake-Mugler
OMG! 12
OMG!: Wow! Leo Evisu is your child? That is my favorite vogue fem of all time by the way! lol! That catwalk of his is not to be played with! Zoliy: Yes, that’s my daughter! He is one of my great accomplishments, he propelled in the Ballroom scene and in real life! That’s my baby!
OMG!: Tell me a litte about your Orlando Chapter, how many members do you currently have? Zoliy: I am very proud to be a part of history with helping to establish the first Florida chapter of Miyake-Mugler November 21, 2010 with our inducting members being: Evan - Sex Siren AJ - Model Body Jonathan - European Runway Janell - Female Figure Runway Members that were already apart of the house before the establishing of the Florida Chapter of Miyake-Mugler were: Gramz - One of the Founders of the House of Miyake-Mugler Deon - Cat boy Sex Siren Fox - Butch Queen Face
OMG!: What is the primary category you walk? Zoliy: I walk All-American Runway
OMG!: Give OMG! Magazine readers a brief history of the house of Miyake Mugler and what is the House known for and House History: Zoliy: The Legendary House of MiyakeMugler, is known without a doubt for Face. The originals being Stacey, Nigel, Courtney, and Whitney and the many others that came after them help create the dynasty and legacy that will live forever. As for the houes; Julian Chanel, Bobby Pendavis, Kenny Chanel, Raleigh Chapman,
and David Edmonds, are the ones who are actually credited for giving the house it’s name, August 17 1989. Even though Bobby Pendavis, and Kenny Chanel are credited with helping to create house name “Miyake-Mugler the Official Named Founders are David Mugler, Eric “Gramz” Mugler, Raleigh Mugler, Julian Milan, Chanel, Mugler, Garcon, Stacy “Couture” Mugler. Upon the house debut, Eric was asked to be the house’s first “Mother” but didn’t feel like a mother figure, so he therefore became the house’s first “Emperor”. Yet when the house made its debut, Eric walked out as “Mother” and David walked out as the “Father”. The last person to mention in the founding of this house would be someone simply known as “Couture”, then “Mother Mugler”, brought into the house has its premier clothing designer.
OMG!: Expand on the purpose and success of your Awareness Balls. Zoliy: The first Awareness Ball was given by Troy Kelley and the concept was to give the ballroom community of Florida an event they can call their own, while at the same time give information on and help make the ballroom community aware of the devastating disease that is known as HIV/AIDS. With throwing the last two Awareness Ball, I am looking to make it the premier ball for the state of Florida on the same lines with Latex Ball (NYC) POCC Ball (NYC) Atlanta Awareness Ball (ATL) and the D-Up Ball (NC) where Florida ballroom participants can shine and and out of state participants can truly discover the beauty that is the new ballroom capital "Florida".
OMG!: Tell us a little about your D-UP organization and being an HIV Awareness activist. Zoliy: Miracle of Love Inc's prevention program D-Up is a program that was developed to take opinion leaders from the community, teach them about HIV/ AIDS and STD's, as well as how to have a conversation with their friends around the subject of having anal sex with a condom without them being outreach workers, but to talk Uncut & Raw with their friends, as you normally would. The sad part about
prevention is that 25+ years later, it is still taboo to talk about HIV/AIDS. We need to get to the point were we understand that until their is a cure for this devastating disease, that we need to talk about HIV, not keep it on the back burner and hope no one brings it up. The only way to stop the spread of the disease is to protect each other from it, Talk about it, and rap it up! I share this with each participant that goes through the D-Up Program. HIV/ AIDS Awareness is my life's passion; to many of my friends since I was 17 have been infected and have past away from this disease. It is either until they find a cure or I die that I will stop helping to bring awareness about this disease to my community!
OMG!: Your hopes/aspirations/goals for The House of Miyake Mugler -also Florida's ballroom scene. Zoliy: My hope for the Florida Chapter of Miyake-Mugler and Florida’s Ballroom Scene is to help bring unity, fun, and healthy competition back. There is no need to split the state up, we as a whole can make this state great and with the support and leadership on the New Florida Ballroom Federation (FBF) myself, Gramz Miyake-Mugler, Danny Ebony, Jo-Jo Ebony, Steve Milan, Warren Milan, Flexx Vivant, Jerial Khan, James Miza, and any other leader that is willing to step to the plate and begin to make this the new destination for ballroom participants!
OMG!: Lastly, what are your thoughts on the newest participants in the Florida Ballroom Scene. Zoliy: There are so many popping up everyday that it's hard to keep up. The Milan’s are always pulling someone new out their hat; their performance team can be something nasty. Jerial Khan has found a great new talent in Dhino Khan and Pixi Khan (VF). Calypso 007 is heating up the runway for European Runway...seems to be on everyone’s want list! I think my favorite new talent has to be Kiani 007. She has shown so much improvement and without a doubt will be the new BQD performance diva to keep your eye out for!

So what you can you expect for this new year?
The Escape: The final episodes of my reality show. Why were they never broadcast?
MUSIC: Titled “Sexually Explicit”, my debut album is about embracing an alter-ego. Addressing sexuality, religion, politics, and challenging our way of thinking, I’m really excited to wrap this CD and share it with the world! This album has been a huge team effort. I write my songs, Omri Feinstein (Israel) composes some killer instrumentals, Ryan Curtis (UK) does the top line melody and Ivan Valles (Miami) does the recording and production. It’s great because they all add to the diversity and quality of the album. Hopefully I will eventually collaborate with Britney, Kesha, Lambert, Pink, Gaga, Rock Mafia or David Guetta; anyone who can brings something new to the table that challenges me to do something different.
many times have you caught yourself thinking “who the hell are they to judge me”? Whether through our own actions or simply because people have nothing better to do, we all face judgment in one form or another. Unfortunately, when everything you do is made public, rationalizing these injustices and telling your story isn’t always possible. Fortunately as I begin my new column with OMG!, I hope to share with you the truth behind some of my greatest challenges and share my greatest success as they happen. To begin with a clean slate, I would like to clear the record on one of the most controversial events in my career.
Have you ever started something you were excited about and then realized it wasn’t everything you thought it was going to be? This project was my “baby”, but by the end I just wasn’t proud of the production. I was raised to be an honest person and told that you either do something all or nothing. What started great soon fell apart and I wasn’t prepared with how to deal with the challenges. Behind the scenes things slowly became “scripted”. To me, that was against everything I believed and everything I wanted my show to be. Though I can honestly say The Escape was the one of the dumbest risks of my career, I don’t regret it. I learned more than I could have ever imagined possible. I am sorry I let my fans down, but I promise there is so much more to look forward to. OMG! 20
“who the hell are they to judge me”?
TOUR: Once this album wraps I plan to take it everywhere humanly possible. I’m also developing my first tourbook, music video and a whole lot of other exciting stuff! My goal this year is to perform on or host the LOGO awards! OMG: I’ll be sharing everything I do with readers
along the way. What’s the point of doing something exciting if you can’t share it with anyone? The next column’s will be about sharing everything exciting the future holds as it happens. Up close and person, this is your backstage pass! Got a question? Contact me: music@stevenbinko.com or my profile: http://www.facebook.com/stevenbinko

MY WORLD MY WAY
| TRAVEL |
By Al Ferguson from ALandCHUCK.travel
Happy
2011! This begins a new partnership with OMG! Magazine and ALandCHUCK.travel. As you probably know, ALandCHUCK.travel is part of the largest gay owned travel company in America. Let’s celebrate the re-launch of OMG! and a brand new decade. The comments here in My World…My Way reflect my mantra about the broad gay community. Welcome to the new decade and let’s hope it’s better for our community than the last one has been. What’s on our gay minds…?
OMG! 28
TRAVEL IS CENTRAL TO OUR LIFE
A recent survey of nearly 5,000 gay respondents was asked lifestyle questions on what was important to us. Guess what the survey found out? The #1 answer was meeting other gay men and women. Ok…ok…big surprise. I guess by its very nature… when you put “gay” in anything…it becomes a relationship issue. However, after meeting other men and women…the #2 answer was travel. And travel was way ahead in the survey over #3 (I stopped reading after #2!) Travel, in essence was the most popular thing the gay community wants to do. (By the way…I think this explains from even the 1960’s & 1970’s the lion share of flight attendants were…you guessed it…Gay!) We are exploring different ways to bring the world of Gay Travel to you in our new decade that will be enjoyable, valuable and unique. Our partnership with OMG is a direct reflection of that. For example, shortly you will be able to buy your airline tickets, hotel rooms, car rental and even cruises at OMG’s website. This is important because where do you do that now? 98% of you (remember, you are gay) are not doing it from gay businesses. Hopefully, you will stop and think…If I am going to buy something online…why not support the “gay guys and girls”? And by the way…Orbitz and Travelocity and Expedia…while they market with rainbows and pretty men and women…are NOT gay! You are going to see all kinds of things from OMG! Magazine and ALandCHUCK.travel, and I think you are going to like it. We are focusing on your travel experience with the mantra “My World… My Way!” Here's what’s on my mind…
“CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?”
This column is going to explore many things central to our Gay world. On my mind since expanding our gay travel brand, is how we often marginalize our community. “Gay Speak”, “Drama”, “The Gay Talk” are just some of the words we use to reflect why we don’t get along. Sometimes I even wonder if we like ourselves or each other. I have encountered so many instances in the last year of how one gay business can not support another. It surprises me how we actually verbally attack (or worse) different people in our community. Our goals for this are vague...the results are minimal…the damage is tremendous. I laugh every time I hear that silly phrase “Can’t we all just get along?” So many people outside our community are out to minimize us into their boxes… we are only capable of defeating them if we focus on “big picture” issues. I hope that in our New Year we can point out when we are not supporting each other or fall into the gay speak or gay drama…AND THEN change course.
THE WOLVES ARE AT THE GATE
The end of 2010 had some significant gains for our community. The adoption ban was struck down by the courts. You can serve your country and be able to have the words “military” and “gay” and “proud” in the same sentence. But for those of you who think the world is getting ready to change for us…caution that. As we make these magnificent strides our community enemies are quietly raising money and political strength against us (and its not just Sarah Palin). Let’s commit to our new decade that we will unite in a single voice to represent our community to the rest of the world. This means to vote in elections, raise money for both our charitable and political interests, and to recognize the enemy ahead of us and then organize plans to defeat this enemy in a civil way.
ONE FLORIDA OVER YOUR SMALL BACKYARD
My World…My Way starts with a commitment of being curious. The Gay Community should want to visit other lands, meet other people, and experience different and unique cultures. I am reminded in 2011 that we should start that in our own backyard. It has surprised me working with OMG! and ALandCHUCK. travel that even in Florida (for example) our community can be separate and unequal! There, I’ve said it. Frankly, I don’t care why the gay community in Pinellas doesn’t like Hillsborough. It is not productive for South Florida to not think of Tampa Bay as a potential destination for the gay market. Central Florida is not and island unto itself, never to be visited by Wilton Manors or South Beach (except for Gay Days, of course….come on… remember #1 in the survey?) My point is that we are one gay community and for our community to grow and prosper…both as individual gay men and women…and our businesses…we are one marketplace. One side of the “Bay” must support the other. Central Florida is our playground for residents of South Florida. Tampa Bay and Central Florida must not look at Broward as “to old” or Dade as “to young” to visit. We must support each other. We already know how. At the drop of a hat we would jet off to Amsterdam…how about spending the weekend in one of your gay communities just 3 hours away? If you live in one area of Florida…make a commitment in our new year to visit another. Everyone benefits if you do.
SUPPORT OUR BUSINESS COMMUNITY This is really on my mind as of late. The last two years have been the worst economic conditions of our lifetimes. When times get tough…well you know the rest. However, I do not understand why our community does not make a more concerted effort to support our business community. It starts with communication products like OMG! Magazine. You must pick the magazine up… You MUST. Then you must support the advertisers…You MUST. And that goes for other print sources like Watermark, What’s Happening, Hotspots, Wire, South Florida Gay News and others. Join and follow growing online gay communication sources like Gay Safe Haven (soon to be Rainbow 411), MyQmunity, Mark’s List and others. All of these communication sources are your bibles for a strong gay community. Beyond them you have bars, restaurants, hotels, guest houses, professional services (lawyers, plumbers and Indian chiefs) and it goes on and on in our community. All of these businesses should be working and helping each other in marketing and partnerships with each other. If it’s “all about just you”…then you are doomed for failure. And to the individual gay men and women of our community… why are you not supporting them first? It’s important to vote... and when it comes to voting in our community…you VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLARS. If you are going to consume products (come on…we are gay…we consume…boy do we consume) give your gay community the first shot. Spend your money with them. They need you.
A NEW DECADE IN FRONT OF US
My World…My Way launches in the dawn of a new decade. Our gay community is so fragmented…and isolated…and we are too often alone. We all need each other. It is my hope that we can begin to think about our community in a different way. Other minorities in America have moved faster than the “gay” minority because they have been more organized, more political, but above all else...more united. Let’s start today…January 2011… celebrate our victories…understand our adversaries…and outline what we want to accomplish. We can do it…I will try if you will.
Our icon Dorothy Gale ponders if she should visit beyond the rainbow or everything she ever wanted was in her own back yard.

The granddaddy of all Pride events in Florida is held in St. Petersburg. MUSCLE BEACH PARTY on South Beach is considered one of the gay world’s greatest events. Combined with special shopping events, great dining and nightlife, and bars that are outdoing each other at every turn, make this a weekend of fun and celebration. White Party is another not to be missed experience.
GAY DAYS & WORLD OF WONDER Orlando June 3 – 5, 2011
Reportedly more than 100,000 from around the world come to celebrate in Walt’s playground. Of course all the bells and whistles focus on the theme parks (especially Saturday at Magic Kingdom.) The more sophisticated traveler probably would not be caught dead in a theme park in Orlando’s June Heat, to each his own. But Gay Days is a not to be missed experience. The choices of events, trade fairs, parties, concerts, water park events make this the “happiest gay place on earth.” There are special events for men, women, bears, leather…and it goes on and on. Mark your calendar… between Gay Days and Mark Baker’s World of Wonder and Parliament House Events…oh lord…I smile just thinking about it all.
ALandCHUCK.travel provides travel services to these events and most of the world’s great Gay and Pride Events. See us on line or at facebook for details. Or for immediate assistance please call 866-949-1429. OMG! 31

FLORIDA's GAY
HOTELS By Al Ferguson from ALandCHUCK.travel
We have always had to make choices if we want to stay in Gay (or extremely gay friendly) hotels. Florida is no exception. It seems we are faced with a choice of a consumer (gay..you, me, us) that has the financial resources to spend more (and we tend to like better things) but are offered low quality accommodations. So we must choose low quality or gay. This may be changing and there are some trends that point to this. While we all know there are excellent choices in Gay Guest Houses‌the choices in larger hotel type properties is much more limited. Since we are beginning a new decade, it’s time to take a fresh look at what is available in Florida.
OMG! 36
[ South Beach, Miami ]
THE LORDS HOTEL SOUTH BEACH
[ Ft Lauderdale ]
Lords South Beach Hotel may be one of the most significant gay hotel openings in years. First, the hotel is in South Beach. In the land of $300 a night hotels for the rich and famous, The Lords fills a very special need for the gay community by providing more value. The hotel location is at 11th Street and famed Collins Avenue, just one block from world famous Ocean Drive and the “gay” beach. From The Lords you can walk (within 1 block) to the South Beach gay nightclubs. Second, the hotel feels gay and you will be comfortable no matter what the mix of the clientele. The owner, Brian Gorman, opened the hotel for White Party, just last month, and is brand new (from the former Nash Hotel.) The full service hotel features multiple dining venues including the Porch on Collins (where you can fashionably be “seen”) to the main dining room called (proving how gay the place is) Cha Cha Rooster. “Stay-Naked Dining” is proof of how much thought went into the success of the hotel. The in room dining at Lords was not an afterthought, but rather a planned affair. They advertise… ”Stay in. Stay naked. And we’ll deliver. From late night PB&J’s to candlelit dinners, we promise quick, discreet service for anytime you roll over and realize that food is a must. Nourishment and taste on demand”…. wow, OK, best new gay hotel of 2011! The hotel also features a fashionable bar and some of the most lavish suites imaginable. Lords concentrates on a new trend for hip gay hotels…quality! Rooms feature DVD/CD, LCD Flatscreen TV, iPod Docking Station, luxury bedding, robes, in room spa treatments and more. Finally, this hotel delivers what every gay person wants… Great service. More than 2000 people were interviewed for approximately 50 positions. You can then imagine of the quality of the service provided at the hotel. Lords South Beach is not your “old gay uncle” type hotel. It’s perfect…and the hotel slogan hits a home run… “An appropriately oriented hotel.” You must try this place when in Miami. ROYAL PALMS RESORT & SPA Royal Palms markets themselves as sleek, stylish and sexy… tropical sensuality meets chic urban design. I don’t know about you, but any hotel that promotes sensuality has my attention. To market this way is telling you something about an “up market” hotel as it is NOT a guesthouse or bathhouse that would allow much more public “sensuality.” This hotel is for hip gay travelers and is the largest in Ft Lauderdale with 62 rooms in a trio of completely renovated buildings. The hotel expects to have a grand re opening on March 1 (the hotel is open now but with coming expansion of additional rooms, full café, bar and additional pools and a spa & gym.) The expansion will move the hotel into a full service gay “boutique” property. The hotel features a unique check in where you are presented an apple iPad to enhance your stay at the hotel and South Florida. The iPad allows you to communicate directly with the hotel and comes pre loaded with information on the “gay scene” in South Florida. The owner of Royal Palms, Richard Gray says about the hotel “In the history of gay accommodations there is none anywhere in the world that has received so many awards – both gay and mainstream – and received so much media recognition. The Royal Palms is the gay property that so many gay properties aspire to be.” Richard Gray himself is the most honored individual in International Gay & Lesbian Travel; an inductee in the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Hall of Fame and also a recipient of the MTV/Logo Gay + Award for Achievement in Gay Travel. FLAMINGO RESORT The Flamingo Resort has completed it’s first year of operation and apparently is poised for bigger and better things. The hotel features 130 rooms and one of the largest resort pools in Pinellas County. The hotel features a non smoking video and sports bar (complete with 20 screens); a dance club that hosts regular shows. Rooms are clean and efficient motel type rooms but the on property entertainment options make Flamingo a tremendous value. According to Flamingo owner David Baker, “A highlight for Flamingo Resort is the Sunday t-dance that features a DJ and other entertainment and is among Florida’s largest.” Check out the Flamingo Resort the next time you visit St Petersburg. PARLIAMENT HOUSE OK…everyone has heard the rumours and read the gossip about perhaps the most famous gay hotel in America. But the largest gay hotel & entertainment complex in the world is still alive and kicking…thank you. And perhaps in the hotels darkest hours a new life is about to begin. The property features 130 rooms plus 12 condo’s in the adjacent condo complex called The Gardens (originally built for time shares.) After months of bank failure issues, the Parliament House is poised to come out of receivership and morph into something bigger and better than before. Renovations on rooms and public areas start at the beginning of 2011 to bring the Grand Dame of Gayness to a new level. Parliament House hosts the largest gay entertainment and concert series in the world. No one else is even a close second. The property features a café, piano bar, world class dance club, a theatre for drag shows and first run theatre productions, a variety of shops and much more. After renovations, the Parliament House will be the first class heart of Florida’s gay hotel entertainment hotspots. Check out the Parliament House the next time you visit Orlando. [ Dade City ]
SAWMILL RESORT Of course you are right…Sawmill Resort is not a hotel. But to say it’s just a campground is like saying the Empire State Building is just a building. Sawmill is the largest gay camping and entertainment operation in America. Sitting on 120 acres just 1 hour from both Tampa and Orlando…Sawmill (like the Parliament House) has gone through some tough times. But just like our reporting on the 2011 fortunes of Parliament House…Sawmill too is getting ready to go through a renaissance. The property has more than 270 rental units including cabins, permanent park models, RV sites and tenting. Sawmill features a dance club, country music courtyard, Live shows, two bars, pool and extensive grounds and trails. New for 2011 is that Sawmill is in the process of being purchased by the members of Sawmill. When completed, Sawmill will be the largest gay member owned entertainment business in America. The purchase by the members will make the entire business a not for profit entity where all monies generated stay within the community. This means that facility improvements are on the way and it could become the most active “hotel but not hotel” gay complex in Florida. The next time you want to travel of the “Gay” beaten path, look into the Sawmill Resort. TRAVEL
apps By Joshua Beadle
WITH
technology dominating our lives, its never been so easy to find where were going, who's around, and read reviews. I've scoured the internet to find some great apps that will aid in making your trip more fabulous.
OMG! 40
GayCities Free | Find nearby bars, great restaurants, shops (and more), see who's there and share where you are going with your friends. Where does the crowd go? This app is great for researching what clubs are busy on certain nights. It seems like that’s a question I find myself asking locals when traveling, “where should I go tonight?”
Babelingo $1.99 | Babelingo is more than a simple phrase book. Rather than struggling with delicate pronunciations and phrase books simply show your foreign language audience a translated phrase. Choose your desired phrase or word and show professionally translated text to your audience in their own language. Each one rendered in a large and beautiful script easily read from a distance.
Grindr Free | I feel like most of you probably know about Grindr, But for those of you who have been living off the radar, Grindr is a convenient location-based app that works with your iPhone GPS or iPod touch and iPad Wi-Fi to connect you to nearby men. It’s easy to use and completely discreet. You don’t need an account to use Grindr. Simply launch Grindr, upload an optional photo & profile details, and browse for men in your area who want to chat and meet.
Free | The ultimate restroom finder! As seen on The Today Show, The View, NY Times, WIRED, The Wall Street Journal and Lifetime's The Balancing Act. I personally enjoyed reading the reviews on certain bathrooms.
MapQuest 4 Mobile
Bump
Free | Why pay for a navigation device when you can get free Voice-Guided, Turn-by-Turn Directions right from your iPhone? Plus, you get the same trusted directions that you’ve come to rely on from MapQuest.com. Offering Extensive live Traffic coverage that’s updated every 5 minutes. Loads surrounding gas stations, hotels, resturaunts, and more at the touch of a button.
Free | Bump makes sharing with people as simple as bumping two phones together. Just pick what you want to send, then hold your phones and gently bump hands with another Bump user. This is a great way to share information with the hottie you just met at the club – no pens – no paper – no shouting over music - just bump.

QUEEN OF THE SCENE Hello OMG! readers.... I’m so happy to be invited to be a part of my new OMG! Magazine family... makes me want to say OMG! literally!!! Well I’m going to start off by introducing myself to the OMG! Worldwide readers. My name is Alex Velez, a/k/a "TP Lords." The initials TP stand for (Total Package) which was a nickname given to me by friends at the age of 16. And, that’s where I’m gonna start because that’s when this sparkling character was created. At 16, I was just your typical shy gay teenager who just happened to be kicked out of high school for bad attendance. Too shy to start looking for a job in the real world, and still living with mommy and daddy, I started sneaking into night clubs with friends, staying out until all hours of the night. My future looked like I was going nowhere and I had no support from my family at the time. That is until I met my very dear friend Alexis Lords. He introduced me to the House of Lords. I attended one of their house meetings and they welcomed me into their family. That’s how the last name "Lords" came about. Now, the House of Lords offered me that family acceptance, love & support I craved. But in order to continue to be a member in this family you had to offer something in return. you had walk. What do you mean walk you ask? A ball... a ball. What's a ball you ask? OMG! 44
Well for those of you lacking cultural sophistication, let me bring you into the scene. A "ball" is basically a competition between other houses/families. I’ve always considered myself to be talented and creative but never had the nerve to show any these talents until my first ball in 1996. The War ball, where I walked my first category, "vogue in military wear." The last 2 contestants standing were Lords children, so we took the trophy. That win brought out some confidence in me to continue walking more balls. And every ball I have walked ever since proved to me that I was talented. Three years down the road and numerous trophies under my belt, I started working in the makeup industry for Smashbox cosmetics, doing what I call "mall makeup." I was trained by the best makeup artists in the biz, and for that I’m so grateful. So, armed with all my make up, I started venturing out with my new found skills and large confidence to the different nightclubs in Fort Lauderdale. One night hanging with friends, I was done-up in my typical club attire, which consisted of a short fur coat, short shorts, and a pair of 5 inch platform Adidas sneakers (which I still own to this day). That night the DJ played one of my favorite songs, so I spontaneously decided to jump on the stage and start performing. Not realizing this urge was something I could get paid for,
as I was just doing - on stage - what I used to do in the privacy of my bedroom as a kid, upon my exit off stage that night, I met Gary Santis, the manager of the nightclub, and a major Ft. Lauderdale promoter. He sat me down, offered me a drink... non-alcoholic! (I didn’t start drinking till 23), offered me a job to come back and perform the following week. I was so excited, and that my new OMG! fans is where I began my colorful nightclub entertaining career. From that, I began to receive lots of love from club attendees. The gay community accepted my shows with open arms and a fierceness I could never have imagined. Okay well that's just the beginning, now let's fast forward thirteen years down the road. I’ve performed for and choreographed productions for numerous big nightclubs in South Florida, such as the Coliseum, Voodoo Lounge, Mansion, and major circuit events such as the White Party. I’ve even worked with many artist such as Cindy Lauper, Deborah Coxx, Pepper Mashay, Gioa Bruno, Kristine W, and many more. I’ve also won numerous titles in the pageant circuit, such as MISS FLA FFI 2008, MISS LATINA WORLD 2009, and MISS ILLUSIONS 2010. Now at the present time, I am working with many up-and-coming artists, as their makeup artist choreographer, and stylist, and traveling and performing in many
queen different cities meeting so many great people, which brought me on the not so long road to where I am today!
I am now your QUEEN ON THE SCENE for OMG! Magazine. You can look forward to reading about all of my experiences and stories, either in my travels to major cities all over the world, and in my hometown of Miami Florida. I look forward to hearing from you with any questions, or advice you might seek from makeup to mayhem. This is not a gossip column! I am not the next Perez Hilton. This is about light, love and positive energies throughout the GLBT community. And since I love shopping, I will tip you off to the fiercest shops for the right look of the month or season at a smart price. I will expose to you, my fans and OMG! Magazine junkies, to all of the secret hotspots - from drag to dude wear. I will also be sharing my performance schedule with you in the coming issues and online at www.omgmag.com. So, be on the lookout! I might just be coming to your city or town. People used to frowned upon the art of Drag. But look at me now, trying something new and always trying to evolve as an artist and an advocate for the GLBT Community. After many years (13+) of performing and entertaining, I really hope that you enjoy my new up-and-coming articles and my 2011 performances. It's all because of YOU, my community, that is my success. a picture PERFECT
2010 By Sam Washington
2010
was a picture perfect year for celebrity photographer-turned- TV hunk, Mike Ruiz. In addition to stars like Kim Kardashian, Prince, and Adam Lambert clamoring to step in front of his lens, Mike became a star himself on the drama-packed reality show, The A List: New York.
OMG! 46
IT
wasn’t the first time we’ve seen Ruiz on our tubes. He’s been on several reality shows including America’s Next Top Model, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Kathy Griffin’s My Life on the D-List. But A List was different. It was the first time cameras would document his every move and Mike would have no control over the final edit. It was a professional risk. But when producers offered Mike the chance to bring attention to the LGBT causes of his choosing – organizations that don’t normally receive the spotlight they deserve - he knew it was a risk worth taking.
There is a local charity in New York called The Ali Forney Center. They help homeless LGBT youth who have been rejected by friends and family for being who they are and have no where to turn. They are in constant need of funding.
We spoke to Ruiz about his work, shooting The A List: New York, and why 2010 was his best year yet.
Do you feel you owe the universe for all the fortune you have had in your life?
What made 2010 a picture perfect year for you? I met a man that I love, admire, respect and honor.
Tell us about him.
His name is Martin. I have never met a man who is so emotionally available and loving.
Has he become your muse?
Martin has inspired me in ways that I didn’t think possible. I am branching out in so many areas in my work and he is helping me manage it all.
Let’s discuss all of your work projects beginning with the show. Were you pleased with how A List: New York turned out?
I was thrilled with the outcome of The A-List. I owe a huge amount of gratitude to LOGO for giving me a voice in the LGBT community.
Why did you decide to shoot A List?
I wanted to do the show for two reasons. First, I wanted a voice in the community so that I could benefit as many LGBTQ causes as possible. The second reason is plain and simple. I wanted to try something new. I had a blast doing it!
Are the guys on the show your real friends?
I didn’t know them prior to taping and my goal was to be somewhat of a mentor to them. I wanted to show that no matter how much you struggle to find your place in the world, you can end up being happy and successful, both professionally and personally.
Did you purposefully avoid all of their drama?
Going into this show, everyone knew that my participation would be limited due to my commitments as a photographer. It was usually just a scheduling issue. But also, it was never my intention to get screen time at any cost. I wanted my screen time to have positive impact.
Have you always felt it important to give back?
I always knew that the second I reached a position where I could do something, I would. It’s become second nature to me and needless to say, it is enormously gratifying.
I feel that all of my good fortune is the result of what I put out to the universe. It’s pretty simple, the more love you give, the more love you get back. That’s something to remember when life seems to be going downhill.
Growing up, were you always so fortunate?
Quite the contrary. I grew up in a prejudiced, chaotic and sometimes violent environment, both at home and at school. I know what I’m talking about when I speak on behalf of bullied youth.
What was your first big break?
My first big break came when I realized that I didn’t have to beat myself up anymore for not being good enough. That is really when the wonders of life opened up to me. Since then, it has been one long unbelievable fairy tale.
What does it take to stay on top?
Lots of commitment and effort and believing that there isn’t anything you can’t do.
You certainly stayed on top in 2010. How many celebs did you shoot this year?
Nicki Minaj, Kellan Lutz, Kelly Rowland, Margaret Cho, Jaclyn Smith, Kathy Griffin, Carmen Electra, Lance Bass, Tyra Banks, Amber Rose… a bunch more that elude me right now.
You began work on your Transformations project this year. Which transformation was the most transformative? I think my transformation of Kim Kardashian was the biggest transformation because people still don’t believe me when I tell them it’s her.
When will the Transformations book be available? I’m hoping to have it out by Fall 2011.
How will you top 2010?
My goal for 2011 is simply to try to live in the moment. If I continue to do that, then every year will just keep getting better.
What charities are most important to you?
I am passionate about any organization that helps the LGBT community. Some of my favorites are Trevor Project, an organization that helps gay youth through their difficult teenage years. I have assumed the responsibility of letting them all know that life is a wonderful and beautiful thing and it should never be cut short. I had the shit kicked out of me on a daily basis back in school but look at me now.
Is there a particular charity that you feel does not get the attention it should?
Where will you be when the ball drops?
I’ll be on Long Island celebrating Martin’s mother’s 80th birthday.
What is your News Years resolution?
My resolution for 2011 is to try to be the best representation of the gay community possible. Visit Mikeruiz.com.

New Music New Year By DJ Joanie
Happy 2011 to all carbon-based life forms with a love for dance music! The past year saw some great tracks and by now you’ve endured the countless year-end countdowns and the critic’s lists so let’s move on to what’s new on the horizon.
Dog Days Are Over by Florence & The Machine
The song may already be a critically acclaimed classic of 2010 but the dance mixes by Sanna & Pitron are brand new for nightclub consumption. Inspired by an art piece “Dog Days Are Over” by artist Ugo Rondinone, Florence Welch penned the lyrics and original vocals were recorded with no instruments in a bathroom-sized room in ’08. Various appearances on MTV, SNL and even a Glee cover have catapulted this talented performer to pop-culture status. Now we’re graced with mixes to dance to and all I can say is Hallelujah! Dripping with emotion and unique vocal styling, this plays like a different kind of dance floor anthem. Truly brilliant!
Sanity - Hannah
Estonian-born multi-talented singer songwriter Hannah is back with a Bananarama sound-alike goodie for your consideration. Co-written with Steve Booker, the song-writing supremo behind Duffy's international platinum selling hit 'Mercy' this one is destined to catch on. In true Bimbo Jones remixed fashion the track is bubbly and bright with sing-along harmonics galore. It’s pretty in all the right places and will grace many a pool deck on a Sunday afternoon.
Year Without Rain by Selena Gomez & The Scene
Tween-pop sensation and Disney pop princess Selena returns with her second single off the album of the same name. A dance ballad, Dave Aude twists this one into a more mature trance anthem than her blockbuster ‘Naturally’. Auto-tuned vocals are present but are used in such a way to be more pleasant to the palate. The song is simultaneously delicious and romantic. The Weather Report is in….it’s gonna be a scorcher!
Better Than Today by Kylie Minogue
Kylie Minogue…how we love thee! Let me count the ways… First there was ‘Locomotion’, ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ followed years later and we’ve been blessed by ‘Get Outta My Way’ and the monster ‘All The Lovers’ in the past months. Your album ‘Aphrodite’ was quite possibly the best dance album of the year (shame on The Grammys for not nominating you!). You sing “What’s the point of living if ya don’t wanna dance!” after a feel good vocal persuasion about taking chances, hope for the future, useless information playing with our heads and empty social-climbing. Go ahead Kylie, cheerlead us into change. Anthem alert, kiddies! MyFlexRadio.com is re-tooling and expanding in the new year. Access our new sound,,,,Have you heard us lately? Hello by Martin Solveig and Dragonette
Out since June of last year and initially a YouTube viral sensation France’s Martin Solveig’s ‘Hello’ is set to dominate the US dance floors and charts with a batch of cool new mixes. Canadian electro pop group Dragonette provide the vocals and world class remixes are crafted by Sidney Samson, The Bassjackers. Michael Woods, and Dada Life. Wacky and infectious this one will be great on the more progressive floors. If you love The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, The Ting Tings or can remember the alternative classic “Blister In The Sun” by The Violent Femmes you’ll live for this alternative electro hybrid.

Happy
New Year my Darlings! Many congratulations on making it to the year 2011. Trust me, that in itself is very impressive! Now let us talk about all these pesky new resolutions. Try not to overdue it with your list or you will just be in for disappointment. By keeping the list simple, it will likely allow you to be more attentive to the really important life altering resolutions. Most people’s lists include that they resolve to be more outgoing or sociable, and that one my dears is where I step in to offer up my advice. The end of the year presents us with many large sociables and hootenannies, which are wonderful and great fun but can be overwhelming. The arrival of the New Year allows us the opportunity to work our way into more intimate dinner parties and that gives us the chance for a whole different kind of socializing. Fine dining is the perfect setting to bring old friends and new acquaintances together in a more relaxed scenario. Let us first start by making up our guest list. You will want to bring in people of similar interests. Some small variations in personalities will add some spark, but none that are too drastic. That could lead to a lot of uncomfortable or quiet moments, which is never good. I find between 6 to 10 guests is more than enough to give you a full and pleasant dinner conversation. Now that your guest list is finished, it's time to plan your delicious menu. I know that several small appetizers will keep everyone chatting in the living-room until everyone has arrived and you are ready to serve. It's a nice warm-up time for the guests. My dinner menu approach is very similar. I prefer several moderate sized courses. This allows for a longer dinner and each course can be part of the discussion. Preparing all of the courses ahead of time is the only way you will be able to enjoy the fun as well. You need to stay out of the kitchen or the whole evening will wind up in the kitchen. And by enjoying your time chatting with and entertaining your guests, it allows some time for each course to digest. If you are serving a themed food, your table setting should reflect that. Otherwise just go with what pleases your eye but keep it simple and clean. I say go all out, what are you saving all the good china for anyway. Give your guests something to talk about. Each course will naturally require its own dish and utensils, and that will be determined by what time of food you are serving. If you don't have enough fine china and silver, you can improvise with what you have - you just have to be creative. I love to mix the old and the new and simple with posh. Being creative may sometimes beautifully play off each from your otherwise mismatched stock of china and silverware. You should always start off each setting with an oversized plate charger, then stack the needed dishes according to course. There should be a small bread plate just off to the side of the place setting. I always have at least three glasses per setting- one for water, one for wine, and one for other desired beverages - not everyone drinks alcohol. Using a colorful mix of glasses will add another dimension to the table. The utensils needed for each course may seem daunting at first, but simply remember to have fresh appropriate utensils for each course. Add in an ornate or brightly colored napkin a few of your own extra personal touches to the table-scape, and you will have a dinner setting that will impress any Queen from England. This will certainly make your guests feel special ,and wonderful memories will be created for all. Throwing a few of these special dinner parties at the beginning of the new year will keep you popular all yearlong . That should take care of the more socializing resolution for you. Until next time darlings, stay Jovial.
Give your guest a delicious splash of color

A Mayor’s Work is NEVER Done! By Wm. Cor y Jeffries, Staff Writer TAMPA FL - A chapter in Tampa history is quickly drawing to a close, as term limits catch up with current Mayor Pam Iorio. I recently had a chance to sit down with Mayor Iorio to discuss how she sees things in our fair city. Iorio has always been a mover and shaker in our community, and she has spent all of her adult life in public service. While she may be counting down the days till her term ends early next year, she certainly is not sitting idly by! Mayor Iorio began her formal political career at the age of 26, when she became the youngest person ever to be elected to Hillsborough County Commission in 1985. Iorio was elected by her peers to be Chairperson of the Commission and served a total of two terms in office. From there, she was elected the Supervisor of Elections for the County, and served three terms in office - till 2003. Fast forward to today, Iorio, now in her second term as Mayor, continues to rack up appearances daily as she continues to push her agenda to make Tampa a “World Class City,” hopefully before the term clock runs out! Cory Jeffries for OMG! Magazine: Has there been ‘one’ obstacle that you would consider to be the thorn in your Mayoral Achilles heal? Mayor Pam Iorio: Being nationally ranked as the 54th largest city in the country, I consider our lack of a modern mass transit system to a big downfall for Tampa. Cities like Charlotte NC., Dallas Tx., Salt Lake City Ut., and Phoenix Ar., all having modern mass transit systems that have only made them more attractive places to live, work and travel in. Don’t get me wrong, Hillsborough Area Rapid Transit (HART) has been doing the best they can with what they have; but it’s not enough. Tampa needs the one cent sales tax initiative to be approved in the mid term election if we are to get the job done! We need more buses with better schedules that serve the entire county. I understand a tax increase is rather unpopular in today’s economy, but if we are to continue to compete with other major cities, we need to get on the bandwagon! Tampa is face with a tough choice,
OMG! 68
we can either stick to the ‘status quo’ and hope that things get better, or we can become pro-active and take control of our lives with regards to future growth and development. The proposed light rail system would be a magnet for the local private sector. It would create new jobs and attract new businesses to Tampa. Everyone will benefit from the mass transit program, whether they use it or not, if nothing else by reducing the amount of people clogging up the public roads. OMG!: How do you envision the completion of the Tampa Riverwalk Project after your leave office? Iorio: It’s my hope that the next Mayor will want to complete the Riverwalk Project. Riverwalk is a fantastic amenity for all citizens of Hillsborough County. A classic example of this is the use of the new Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. Often times I will stop and ask people, ‘Where are you from? I get replies like ‘Valrico, Carrollwood, and Brandon!’ Riverwalk is for the use of EVERYONE in Hillsborough County, because Downtown Tampa is ‘everybody’s neighborhood!’ OMG!: Why are you so passionate about the Riverwalk? Iorio: The City of Tampa wants to be able to attract people to come Downtown and park one time, then be able to experience the beautiful waterfront walkway from one end to the other and never move their car once. The river front-channel side area has been ‘untapped’ by the public for so many years. The Riverwalk concept hopes to provide both affordable and accessible access to areas such as the Channel-side District, the Museum of Natural History, the Tampa Museum of Art, and the Glazer Children’s Museum; the many public parks such as Cotanchobee, McDill, USF, and Curtis Hixon. The Riverwalk project is currently at 45% completion, I anticipate being much further along before leaving office in 2011. The eventually completion of Riverwalk will open access as far north as Tampa Heights. With proper follow-up, continued grant
monies, and planning, there is no reason why the Riverwalk can’t be completed in the next Mayor’s first term in office. OMG!: How do you see “transforming” the Downtown Area into a vibrant, busy point of interest 24/7? Iorio: The Downtown area is certainly more active than it used to be, I consider myself to be an ‘incrementalist,’ I look at where we were in 2003 and if you saw someone walking around the Downtown area after 5pm, they were obviously a Convention person and not really involved in the city, other than to go to the Convention Center and back to their Hotel room. Today, with the addition of over a dozen restaurants in the Downtown area, plus Skypoint, the Element, as well as the new Condos and Apartments at Channel-side, there is a new influx of consumers in the Downtown area. We actually have people living, working and spending money in the Downtown area. Tampa has been lucky, even with the recession going on; normal growth continues to be strong in Tampa overall. OMG!: What is Tampa doing to improve ‘Green Government’ and take a leadership role on environmental issues in the State of Florida? Iorio: Because of Tampa’s leadership roles in green government, the city was named a “Green Gold Local Government City,” in 2009 by the Florida Green Building Coalition (the second city in the state, behind Tallahassee to be named as such). This recognition is the result of several decades of environmental work. A major contributor to the city earning the prestigious ‘green government’ title is the McKay Bay Project. In order to comply with the Clean Air Act of 2000, the city set out to have a waste management facility that was compliant with the Act. After much research and development, the Wheelabrator Corp. was tasked to design, construct
and operate said facility, it went online in 2002. As a result of the McKay Bay project, garbage is effectively burned and produces enough electricity to both run the plant, as well as extra which can be sold for a profit. The other big project for the City has been the Storm-water program; a modern project that deals with the proper recycling and treatment of storm water in Tampa. Tampa continues to use the federal stimulus money we received in order to continue the modernization of the city as affordably and ‘greenly’ as we can. We have implemented services like LCD lighting and curbside recycling which reduces our over all carbon foot print in town. Additionally, we have worked with Environmentalists to focus on ‘flow level’ concerns of the lower Hillsborough River, this plan has been well received by both the local water suppliers as well as the environmentalists, all while protecting the River overall, making us good environmental stewards. OMG!: As Mayor, you have implemented your “Six Strategic Goals to Guide the City,” one of which focuses specifically on ‘economic development in our most challenged areas.’ As Mayor, how has that vision progressed for you? Iorio: By far, it would have to be the redevelopment of East Tampa. We were the first administration to really focus on ‘polishing’ the East Tampa segment of the City. Since 2004, over $25 million in Tax Increment financing has been generated and reinvested back into the community. We have also managed to generate $119 million from the private sector for this renovation effort. Those monies have worked to help reduce the crime rate in East Tampa by increasing a stronger Police presence in District 3, the completion of the Meridian Apartment complex which has provided affordable appealing housing in the area; the control of illegal dumping in the area, the beautification of the 21st Street corridor, a face lift to Lake Avenue area, as well as the development of Cyrus Green Park. Parcel by parcel, East Tampa has been transformed from a run-down, unkempt part of town; into a community of vibrant residential, business, recreational, social and cultural life – inviting to all of Tampa! OMG!: A current hot topic of late is Pan-handling. How will the city address this concern? Iorio: This is a tough issue to address, one which needs to be addressed County-wide, so that all of the municipalities can deal with uniformly. The issue of homelessness is not just going to go away, in fact with in this economy; it’s only going to get worse. As a society, we never have really figured out exactly how to deal with this issue. There’s not enough money, programs, or temporary housing to resolve this issue, especially when no one agency will take the responsibility of fixing it on. Homelessness and pan-handling has always been addressed in a ‘piece meal’ style. Accordingly, there is a certain amount of sadness associated with this issue. When people get to the point that they have to stand on the street corner and ask for help, it denotes a deficiency in our society. Collectively we haven’t mastered this plight just yet. OMG!: On a lighter note, you are married to your husband Mark Woodard, and have 2 grown children. Is now the time you can kick back and enjoy the fruits of your labor? Iorio: Catlin and Graham are now older now, one is in College and the other is in Graduate School. But Mark and I are too young to kick back and enjoy anything. Being only 51 years old, we try to enjoy life on a daily basis; we have a lot of years of us and we want to continue to accomplish those things we consider to be of benefit and allow us to give back. In all honesty, I have enjoyed the honor of being Tampa’s Mayor for eight years now. People have been very kind to me, they want Tampa to do well and prosper. People come to me constantly with a sincere desire to help. I couldn’t have been blessed with a better job. My hope is to see Tampa continue to grow and flourish after my term is up. Trust me, having been born and raised in Tampa, this town will always be my home and I will always be active in it!

India ferrah from Season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race
By Wm. Cor y Jeffries, Staff Writer
OMG! 70
SO
the Holidays are behind us, and we are meandering around looking for some new exciting entertainment to get us through January… might I suggest the RuPaul’s Drag Race Season III. We all know that RuPaul is the most famous drag queen in the world; and serves as host, mentor, and inspiration on Logo's hit show “RuPaul’s Drag Race!”. The “race” has been dubbed the nation’s ultimate female impersonator competition. Playing a dual role, RuPaul reigns supreme as head judge in all contestant eliminations, then RuPaul, the man, helps guide the contestants as they prepare for each challenge. Contestants include the nation's most outrageous, cutting-edge, talented and stunningly gorgeous drag queens all fighting for the title (and tiara) as top drag queen of the land. That being said I recent had the opportunity to sit down with Dayton, Ohio’s very only 23 year old bombshell – India Ferrah. Don’t let India’s age fool you; Ms Thang’s being doing drag since tender teen-age years! When asked what we can expect of her this season in the Drag Race, her response was “I’m bringing 100% selfsufficiency!” So we had a little chat and I asked Ms Ferrah to share a bit of herself with our readers, here’s what I got: Cory Jeffries for OMG! Magazine: What made you decide to be a Female Impersonator Artist? India Ferrah: I always felt at a young age that I had a feminine desire to perform and be the center of attention, and when I turned twelve I came out, and my brother's boyfriend at the time did drag and I wanted to do it, and I just never stopped. So here I am now! OMG! Magazine: How long have you been doing this art? India Ferrah: I have been doing this art since the age of twelve, and I am 23, so this will be my eleventh year performing. OMG! Magazine: How has your character India evolved over the years? India Ferrah: Well, she has become more glamorous and seductive, as with age and money. She has also become more professional and mature than she used to be, I have grown up alot in these eleven years, and have been able to turn what I love to do for fun into a small business. OMG! Magazine: What or Who motivated you to audition for the Rupauls Drag Race? India Ferrah: Honestly, I would have to say myself. I auditioned for all three seasons, and I found out that the show was about being America's next drag superstar, which I thought I could be. To me, being professional, talented, hardworking, and confident is what being America's next drag superstar is all about, and that is what I am, so i thought, "Hey, audition!" After three years, I did it bitches! OMG! Magazine: How difficult was it to be away from your family and friends during filming? India Ferrah: It was very very difficult! I love and talk to my family almost everyday, and I live with my husband who I see everyday, so not being able to communicate with them at all, not even a text message, was very hard for me, and was one of the biggest challenges for me. OMG! Magazine: Sometimes, the show comes across as being "rehearsed," or the "drama" is staged - is that really how it is? India Ferrah: Like a prostitute and magician, a lady never reveals her tricks!! Honestly what you see is real, but we are all the best of friends. OMG Magazine: What was RuPaul really like to work with? India Ferrah: RuPaul is very goofy, and fun to be around. She does know that she is a diva though! When she is Ru, she is very fun and goofy and playful, but when she gets in drag, she is very glowing and statuesque. I admire her for the transformation.
OMG! Magazine: What was your most memorable moment of the Drag Race? India Ferrah: Wow, there are so many! When RuPaul first entered the room the very first time, that was my favorite moment, because that's when I realized that this was real. It kind of hit me, I got chills. OMG! Magazine: If you could change anything about the Art of Female Impersonation, what would that be? India Ferrah: The attitudes toward female impersonation from outside and inside the gay community are quite warped and misconstrued. Much of the industry is surrounded by drama, which upsets me because it should be the one place in our community where we can all just kick back and enjoy some entertainment, not belittle others. I would love to change what people think it is, and I would love for people to see how much is actually put into this work. OMG! Magazine: When it's all said and done, what do you want to be remembered the most for? India Ferrah: I want to be remembered as an inspirational, giving, and sickening queen! Most of all, I want to be remembered for kindness and sincerity. I want people to look back and say, "That India did well for herself, and she inspires me to be a better person and artist." OMG! Magazine: Finally, any advice to up and coming Impersenation talent? India Ferrah: Yes!! Stay true and believe in yourself, Do not invlove yourself with pitiful drama, because at the end of the day it doesn't really matter, what matters is you. When people tell you that you cannot do something, let it go in one ear and out the other, because I was told that very same thing. Treat others how you want to be treated, because Karma is a complete bitch, and realize like I did, that overnight success doesn't happen overnight. It takes time to get your name out there, but once you do, there's no stopping you! So I think Season 3 will be a real ball-buster! Ms. Ferrah professes that she being a country farm girl raises her own wheat, makes her own bread, milks her own cows, and even composts too! As if that isn’t enough, she can sew and even does her own hair; so get ready for Season 3, this Drag Queen is crafty and should bring her own “mid-west” spice to the game! winter wear
DOWN there DailyJocks.com introduces the Hottest Wear Down There by Andrew Reynard (and Will Baker)
There
was a day when every brief was the basic standard cut, sold in packs of three and all came in bright white. You knew it was time to change them when they turned dingy grey or when the elastic was stretched to disrepair. Life was simpler then. When did drawers get complicated? In the early nineties, Victoria’s Secret launched a revolution in women’s underwear. Back then, no one believed a store that sold only underwear could survive. With sales surpassing $5 billion last year, the stores have done more than survive – Victoria’s Secret has thrived, sparking a multi-billion dollar industry in women’s undies. It was only a matter of time before retailers set their sights on men. It began with designer brands like Calvin Klein and CIN2. Then came the funderwear brands: Joe Boxer and Ginch Gonch. Today, there are hundreds of men’s underwear brands competing for space in your underwear drawer but only one authority on all, Dailyjocks.com. We spoke with the sites editor to get the skinny on what to wear down there. How did DailyJocks.com become the authority on men’s underwear? With 400,000 people visiting us each month, we’re the fastest growing underwear community online. We work hard to offer our members the hottest photos and best shopping deals from the brands they love. How do you decide what men should be wearing each season? We don’t decide, we simply present the emerging trends. What are men wearing this winter? The athlete fashion underwear is what’s hot. 2xist, Teamm8, Timoteo all have exciting new ‘Jock’ styles coming out. Also, anything that makes male packages look bigger is huge (pun intended). Aussiebum Wonderjock and Andrew Christian Show-it are some of our favorites. Is there a hot color for winter? There is no dominant color this season. Instead, it’s all about patterns and bold colors that attract the eye. Stripes are also being featured by a number of brands. OMG! 80
Women have been willing to spend money on their intimates. Why have men been slow to invest in proper undergarments? Before now. there wasn’t much worth paying top dollar for. Men’s underwear has evolved from being a simple piece of clothing to something that helps shape men’s body or even helps men perform better while working out. Are straight men finally realizing the importance of designer briefs? Gay guys were the early adopters buy, today, all guys see underwear as an important piece of fashion that helps express their individuality. What advice can you offer young designers who are considering launching their own label? Be prepared to work hard and do your research. Invest in a top notch website and hire a fantastic photographer. Seek feedback before your produce 5,000 pieces of underwear that people won’t buy. Be bold and different. Who are some up-and-coming underwear designers? Australia is finally producing successful designers other than AussieBum. Our favorite underwear designer is 2eros. As far as swimwear, Marcuse swimwear is certainly one to watch. Speaking of ones to watch, the men featured on DailyJocks attract a lot of attention. Our men are without a doubt what draws people to our site. How do you choose the men featured? We receive emails from hundreds of aspiring models. We’re always on the lookout for real men. Our members aren’t interested in polishedup images. What is the current state of the underwear industry? For men who wear underwear, it’s never been better. There are so many brands to choose from, with some very cool designs. You can really express your personality in any way possible. We’ve moved beyond boring tighty whities.

the MAN of
MANHUNT By Riley Baker
Social networking has forever changed the gay hook-up. It’s hard to even remember what it was like before sites like Manhunt came along.
OMG! 82
“I met my business partner Larry Basile in 1992,” explains Manhunt founder Jonathan Crutchley. “He had a gay phone personals business that I loved. I was probably their best customer. I was one of the guys whose phone bill was $300 a month. I knew moving personals online would be a gold mine.” But could Jonathan Crutchley ever have imagined how Manhunt would change the gay dating landscape? He says no. “I imagined we would reach the guys that advertised in personals, which is a small part of the gay community. I never thought our idea would be embraced by the mainstream gay population.” But embraced it has been. Whether looking for a soul mate to spend quality time with or simply someone with whom to act out a wild fantasy, Manhunt is the go-to place for many gay men. The site began as Manhunt.net because when Basile and Crutchley went to purchase the domain name, the .com was taken by a Christian gospel musical group. They had to wait until the group disbanded and closed their Manhunt.com site before they could acquire it. But even as a .net, Manhunt became one of the greatest aphrodisiacs of the 21st century. It also became one of the most lucrative gaycentric businesses of the new millennium. Meeting Jonathan at his estate outside of Boston, it’s clear he hasn’t done many interviews. Though friendly and welcoming, and rather dapper in his sports coat, he holds on tightly to his lapel. It’s not surprising, however, considering he hasn’t had the best releationship with the press. He has been lambasted for several things through the years. He’s been called the man who brought down the gay nightclub industry, to which he responds: “Manhunt drew away some of their business, that’s true, but not all of it. After all, we’re not serving drinks. Also, Manhunt has been a powerful advertising medium for nightclubs and circuit events, many of whom advertise on our site.” He’s also been skewered by media for being a Republican, a political party that has been
historically anti-gay. To that, he says, “I’ve often switched parties, depending on the political climate. After the election of 2008, I re-registered as Independent.” “In general, I would like as little government as possible,” continues Crutchley. “Do for yourself as much as possible, that’s my political philosophy. I’ll always support the candidate that will have the lowest taxes and the least involvement in my personal freedoms. Government should mind its own business.” He is dedicated to supporting and giving back to the community, and his record proves it. Crutchley’s financially supported gay sports leagues (over thirty sports teams receive funding from Manhunt), gay artists, and several community health organizations fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS and drug abuse. “Not every organization that I would like to give to is interested in receiving my money,” Crutchley adds. “I understand that Manhunt is racy and on the edge. If you’re a white-gloved charity you likely want nothing to do with us.” “In the beginning it had an emotional effect on me,” he admits. “It’s rejection. But I’ve gotten used to it. Just like on Manhunt, if you get rejected, you move on to someone else.” Manhunt has also been shunned by mainstream advertisers. “The problem for all gay adult sites is that major advertisers shun us because they’re not comfortable working with companies that features naked pictures of guys. We’ve only recently seen a gradual trend of acceptance by major advertisers of our site, and this should lessen our reliance on subscription revenue in the future.”
as few ads as possible and are willing to pay for quality.” Today, Manhunt is preparing for its next technological evolution: mobile. It’s facing its first real competitor ever, Grindr. But Crutchley says he’s not worried. “We are up to our eyeballs in the development of new applications for the mobile phone. We have released a Manhunt app for Android and the iPhone app is right around the corner.” “We’ve taken our time in development because we’re sticking by our old formula of quality as #1. We’ve learned through the years that exceptional quality and service will bring subscribers back and bring new ones onboard.” He argues quality is also the reason manhunt has shown no signs of slowing down even in this struggling financial climate. So why has the man who commands one of the largest online conglomerates in the world remained relatively anonymous through the years? “I keep a low profile, because Manhunt isn’t about me, it’s about the guys who use it. “I do love when gay men find out who I am,” confesses Crutchley. “Many have actually thanked me for the friends they’ve made, the fun they’ve had, and for connecting them with their life partner. It’s been incredibly rewarding.”
Subscription revenue is an interesting facet about Manhunt. Somehow, the site has convinced millions of gay men to pay for a service they can get from other sites for free. “Without the subscription revenue, we couldn’t afford the servers, the bandwidth, the 24-hour customer service, and the employees we need to keep the site going,” explains Crutchley. “The free sites offer a lower level of service, plus they have ads all over the place. Our market research shows that guys prefer
