I
answered
the what questions, what are the tasks and responsibilities that will fall on my shoulders? and the how questions, how competent am I to achieve them? I would like to invest in the opportunity here to answer the WHY, why the project support division? I close my eyes to think about the purpose of directing this division, dedicating so much time, energy and passion into this, why having it as a priority and why do I believe in it? to answer this “WHY” I will need to take on this journey of this young girl with bright eyes who dreamed about making a change in her country and the lives of her people, who later grew up to learn that change Is possible, when we are committed, when we work hard to learn and to earn the experience, when we lift each other, when we unite and work on things we have passion for. Now this passionate girl was trying to find opportunities to learn, to give back to her community and to make the change she has always believed in, it was only about time she joined dental school and she then found out about a student run-association, she learned about
their
mission,
it
was
a
non-profit
organization

who
have
come
together to make the change they believed in, too. She was thrilled to have found such a platform from which she can gain experience, opportunities and mostly importantly to give back. Ever since then, it was inevitable that she understood her WHY.Two terms after joining the IFMSA-Iraq family, during which I worked for one term as the project support division director assistant, and honestly from the very first time I heard about this division I knew it was my call, that I was going to be able to better and deeper find my purpose, that one important tool in making the change is planning and managing the change, while the Project support division is only now starting to grow and get its well deserved recognition in IFMSAIraq, however it is the heart and core of the work we do, as I learned from Doaa, our bright PSDD for the term, that members and activates are the DNA of IFMSA-Iraq, and it takes a huge responsibility to be on such a mission to direct the core of an organization that one believes in, to make sure that you are taking the right steps forward, that when taking a risk, it is a well calculated and thought out risk, and that you put your heart and soul into achieving the purple vision. Now you see my WHY, you can understand why I work with purpose, on purpose to achieve the purple purpose. I am humbled to announce that I believe the next step in my journey is to take everything I was given, the dream of the young girl, the love of my family and friends, the opportunities ifmsa-iraq gave me, the experience and knowledge I gained through Doaa, the belief and passion that I have in this and invest it into this position and what is more valuable to give than time and passion! To empower IFMSAIraq and help shape its future through sharing and implementing our purple vision is not an easy mission, One might ask whether we can do it, please let me answer that and say:
Yes,
We Can.
-Sama Zaid
Plan of action: “NGOs fail because they either only do more of the same or they only do what is new, Quality growth is about finding the balance between both activities.” Ladies and gentlemen, it is my pleasure to present to you my plan of action for the term 2019-2020, it is mainly based on the PSDD duties listed in the bylaws, my personal vison, knowledge and experience gained from my work as the PSDD assistant as well as trying to plan to keep leading in a similar manner of our current PSDD. Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me at: omg.sama@gmail.com - Purple regards.
I.Sustainability: a-Stability:- -Ensure and supervise the activation of new projects, expanding them to other LCs, updating and reforming the structure of existing projects, follow up on projects outcomes and motivating IFMSA-Iraq members to enroll new projects. -All project proposals should pass through the project support division director to Evaluate the quality of the projects and ensure its alignment with IFMSA-Iraq vision and mission.
b- Impact measurement: -work on a monthly impact report regarding our national projects and activities in coordination with National officers. -Discuss and plan accordingly the reporting system communication plan for each proposed project. -evaluate and follow up on the progress and outcomes of projects through evaluation forms specific for each project while keeping these online forms accessible for the project coordinators and the concerned LC presidents. And through one on one online interviews with the project coordinators. -Maintain an updated database of IFMSA-Iraq projects and exploring the possibility of having it on our IFMSA-Iraq website. c-The psd team: -up to two PSD assistants. -PSD Local Officers: 1- motivated and passionate individuals who have knowledge about project planning and management to directly support their LCs and help developing and implementing projects in all LCs. 2-Offering Continuous education about the topics of project management and thus having more people involved in this area and investing their efforts in our PSD training sessions. –to be discussed more below.-
Plan of action: II. Communication and contribution -a-Communication plan: -All projects and activates are to be proposed though our project/activity proposal online form, the PSDD studies and evaluates the proposal according to a certain criteria and contacts the concerned National officer, if approved: reaching out to the proposer to ask for the plan of action and gives feedback about it, the proposer may then proceed to the initiating phase. -Activating our projects in other LCs must always involve these three people (The related National officer [and project coordinator if applicable], PSDD, and the VPI). -Projects proposals should be presented 3 weeks ahead of the suggested implementation date while activates should be presented 2 weeks ahead of the suggested implementation date. -Have an activity calendar to direct efforts while working with respected national officers to celebrate and highlight specific celebrations (international youth day, international volunteers’ day, international women’s rights day. etc..)
b-Reaching out to members 1-Nationally: - involving the members and exposing them to our vision, through a social media platform, our PSD local officers and the PSDD -Involving the members in activates including but not limited to the NGA (activity fairs, NMO management sessions.) -Motivate the members through activates like the (project/idea) of the month-when applicable. -Building the members capacity through trainings delivered through the CBD, externals, PSD local officers and beyond! 2- Internationally: -collaborate with projects coordinators in order to enroll IFMSA-Iraq’s projects in the IFMSA database. -Ensure the participation of IFMSA-Iraq’s projects in the activity fair and Rex Crossley awards. -Be aware of the work IFMSA NMOs are doing worldwide and try to compete on the same level.
c-External opportunities: -Work in coordination with the VPE to help project coordinators who work on sustainable and innovative projects apply for grants and international competitions. -Work in coordination with the VPE to collaborate with world merit-Iraq to try implementing the SDGs in the projects we work on and to collaborate with other organizations and institutes that might help providing trainings/fellowships on subjects about projects management (the Station, AUIB.)
Plan of action: III.Expansion: - Exploring new horizons and paving the path for the future of this division. -Create a three-year strategy for our division, while studying the current situation and evaluating it. -Either appointing programs during the mini NGA to be implemented through the term without program coordinators or choosing programs to be implemented based on our project database, this will take into consideration the way we are concluding this term and the point of view of the National officers. - Innovate and try to learn about the improvements we can make in our current structure.
