NAKS ONE Magazine

Omnigraff

Omnigraff: Whats your name? Where you from? Naks: LL-Naxle-Wizidfingiz-Sextiger-Rose AKA Naks One From Vancouver, BC Canada. Omnigraff: How did you get into writing? Naks: When I was in grade 7 my friend showed me graffiti in a source magazine and we started copying it, it blew my mind. I picked up a can and came up with the name BROZ . Hit it up a few times got chased and it scared the shit out of me but the adrenaline was a new thing for me. I fell in love right there. Omnigraff: what crews do you rep? Naks: Stompdown Killaz (SDK) Omnigraff: How did you get into SDK? Naks: Label (co founder of SDK) and I met at an Ephin/SDK art show... He called it the torture test.... We partied for 3 days straight with barely any sleep, he woke me up one morning with a 40oz of Greygoose and a large coffee and said we were going to be shooting a music video for stompdown and painting graff pieces for it. He pretty much put me down on the third day. Lets just say I proved myself worthy hahaha. By the way the video is still up on youtube to this day.

Omnigraff: Do you travel alot and if so where do you go mostly? Naks: Last year Stompdown had a cross country tour, I got to visit every major city from Vancouver island to Montreal, and paint it was an awesome experience. Recently I got the chance to visit the west coast of USA we hit Portland,Stockton, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Venice Beach we filmed 7 I videos and I got to meet I of my idols. I love California its always sunny and the scene is amazing - I’LL BE BACK! Omnigraff: So whats your opinion on graff writers going to jail for so long? Naks: I’ll have to pay respects to all the guys in the states who get locked up for doing graff, it’s much riskier in the states, doing graffiti, I have all the respect in the world for dudes down there... In canada you only get a slap on the wrist! Omnigraff: So, did you enjoy painting in cali with some of homies out here? Naks: California was beautiful, everyone showed so much love... I have to move there one day for real! Omnigraff: What’s your favorite kind of beer? Naks: Okanagan Spring 1516

Omnigraff: Ever had any crazy nights while painting? Naks: So many crazy nights... I dont even know where to start... Skidrow in Vancouver is one of the craziest dirtiest drug infested places you will ever see, however is the premier spot to get up if you live in Vancouver...a few things I have seen are, hookers getting fucked in crack alleys , crackheads shooting up and smoking rock beside me while hitting tags, Heroine addicts overdosing and violently convulsing out, people getting shit kicked by drug dealers, and of course the epic cop chases... Omnigraff: Have you done any exchanges with homies that you know, that helped your style improve better? Naks: I haven’t done that many exchanges in my time, But yes I do get influences every time someone does my name for sure! Omnigraff: You got any haters? Naks: Yes I have, and still do. Haters gonna hate, as far as that goes i wouldn’t be motivated to do what i do if it wasn’t for haters, so keep hatin !!!

Omnigraff: Any advice you could give to some of the younger writers that look up to you and your crew? Naks: You can do anything you put your mind to if you really want it enough. Stay focused and never give up! Its the times when you hit rock bottom when you see what your made of! Always strive to become a better person/Artist. Learn from your mistakes. Omnigraff: If you could say something to a group of people being so negative about graffiti what would you say to them to change there mind about graff being so bad? Naks: There is always good and bad when it comes to Graffiti... but the talented graffiti artists wouldn’t be painting all of these amazing murals if they hadn’t started tagging and doing graffiti illegally. Learn to understand graffiti and the different aspects of it - educate yourself before judging. Omnigraff: Graffiti, legal or illegal? Naks: Graffiti is and always will be illegal. Lets keep it that way or everyone will be doing it!

Omnigraff: How’s the graff scene in Canada? Naks: Canada has an amazing scene, some of the most talented guys in the world are in Canada Toronto and Montreal have amazing scenes - Toronto has hands down one of the best piecing scenes in north america. Montreal is in my opinion the mecca off graffiti in north america right now, Its like New York was in the 80’s its CRUSHED, and there is probably 1000 writers out there just fucking everything up you cant walk a block in Montreal without seeing tags fillers and pieces on everything including the ground! Plus my mooks in Montreal know how to drink and party like no other ! Omnigraff: Who do you think has the illest style out right now? Naks: DOES/ASKEW/BERST/REVOK/RIME/KWEST/BACON/TOTEM/KEMS/SKAM/7SEAS/RETNA/ OMENS to name a few. Omnigraff: if you could go painting with anybody who would it be? Naks: Bob ross (RIP) and SEEN. Omnigraff: Has it become better or worse with graffiti in your life in the past couple of years? Naks: I have learned life lessons through graffiti. I have traveled the country through graffiti. i have met some of the most interesting and amazing people through graffiti. I have made a shit load of money through graffiti. I’ve banged some of the hottest women around through graffiti. And i have learned alot about myself as a person through graffiti. So absolutely things have been better since ive become a graffiti artist. I will never stop! Omnigraff: Any shout outs? Naks: Shouts to my brother LEP ONE who put me on this graff game and showed me the ropes also Vision,Capital Q and all the Stompdown/Ephin fam who hold me down and keep pushing me to be the best I can! And ofcorse anyone who supports or follows me or my crew - Thank you.

OMNIGRAFF MAGAZINE

Omnigraff: Where are you from? And how long have you been doing graffiti? Aebol: I’m from Hayward, CA and have been writing for 5 years now. Omnigraff: Who/What influenced your graffiti? Aebol: Definately the cats I started off with and was around all the time. DFT Crew and my boys WIES1 & ARTE were the ones that showed me what was up in the very beginning. AMUSE126 and AUNR for sure influence my graffiti now and I hope to one day link up with those cats! Also the people I’m around now, bombers or piecers.. I always like to see new shit!

Omnigraff: What crews are you in and what do they mean? Aebol: I’m 8C and ASE. The 8 in 8C actually symbolizes an HourGlass and the passage of time reminding us to appreciate what we have and all that good stuff.. I’m also ASE because Ain’t Shit Easy!

Aebol: Streakers forsure. I’ve ruined so many shoes and jeans with mops that I just can’t do it anymore.

Omnigraff: What is something you’ve been wanting to do, but haven’t? Aebol: Shiiiiiit... I usually just dive into what ever it is I feel like doing but i’ve been wanting to do a FATass roller on an auto-rack, so ya’ll stay tuned!!

Omnigraff: Would you rather go painting alone or with your homies? Aebol: I rather go alone 90% of the time. Because then I don’t have to worry about people and hear the fucked up shit about their life they have to say, I don’t wana hear shit but the spraying while I paint.

Omnigraff: Mops or Streakers?

Omnigraff: Any other interests besides graffiti? Aebol: Nawwww.. Everything revolves around graffiti for me.

Aebol

Omnigraff: What do you like/ dislike about graffiti? Aebol: I like tunnels n all the weird spots graffiti exists in.. Also everything that happens while you’re painting! Omnigraff: Any messages in your graff? Aebol: Yes, always! you just have to look close enough.. but almost always in how the piece is filled in and the colors that are used.

8c ASE

Omnigraff: Is there anything you should let the readers know about? Aebol: Keep painting! even if it feels like you’re not doing much but you’ll get it, believe me! Omnigraff: How long does it averagely take to do a piece? Aebol: 1-2 hours more or less depending on the paint/ spot. Omnigraff: Any last words? Aebol: We out here.

omnigraff Interview Omnigraff: So how did it all start for you, was there someone that got you inspired in to writing? Begr: Ever since I could remember I liked graffiti. The first time I saw it was when I lived with my grandma near San Francisco it was UFO he had spots on the route to my elementry school. Later on I was influenced alot by early 90’s Bay Area graffiti . Omnigraff: How did you come up with the name? Why did you choose it? Begr: I chose the word BEGR pournounced begger cause I liked the flow in the letters. My childhood friend wrote BEAM and I really liked the way B-E flowed with non stop taggs so I became BEGR. Omnigraff: How long have you been doing it? Begr: I’ve been writring since 1993, growing up near San Francisco then having family in San Jose and in the East Bay I got to see alot of good graffiti growing up . Omnigraff: Can you give us a brief history of all the crews you were/are in and how you got into them? Begr: WGE was started by the late OILS, RIP, from Florida I wasn’t fortunate to meet him before he past . the crew was left to my brothers CHUB and DZEE who put me down and I rep this crew as my own. THR I was put down by KING JADE, RIP, and I will always put him and the crew up forever. WMD my over seas connect, my dude CESAR put me down after hanging out and spraying with him in the U.S.A. I feel blessed to be apart of this team the talent and awesome people that are apart of this unit is amazing. I’m down with a lot of crews WGE, the 30’s, WAI, OTR, WMD, THR, FTMD, N4N, NSF, BA, FFP, HCM, GMC, TWB and so on it’s just one big power circle. Omnigraff: What keeps you at it? Begr: There are many engines powering me as a grown adult with a full line of responsablites. The main engine that keeps me going is, I love the writing culture, the life style keeps me motavated to keep painting. Also my crew and friends power me as well . Omnigraff: Do you like keeping your style fun and simple or do you like it hard and complex for people or writers to read? Begr: This all depends how I feel I have a sketch or a style for anything but I tend to like to keep it fun. In the early 2000s I was spending alot of time in southern California with crews like WAI, FU, FGS, and CBS, all of there letter styles were on the hard complex steez so I received propper training in that style. Every now and then I drop a more hard looking style or incorporate it in with what I am doing. Omnigraff: What was one of the most difficult spots you’ve hit? Begr: I’ts all about timing and tactics, nothing is difficult you just have to watch what you are trying to get done, have the correct paint and know what to do on the spot. The difficult part is knowing what the after math of what your spraying is going to be .

Omnigraff: Which 5 crews in the Bay do you think is killing it right now? Begr: To me the work crews like TDK , HTK , THR, BA, BTM will always rule the bay area. TDK for the epic pieces they have laid on tracksides and yards the “tax dollars kills” wall will always be one of the best full scale walls done without a permission slip in the bay. HTK for having diverse pieces each member has a burning style that is in its own lane also “renos” has one of the best handstyles to date. THR will always house the ones who are killing the streets the right way in San Francisco from back in the day when “TWIST” first started repping to the “TIE era” and later with the “JADE era” it will always be one of the Bay’s nasty tagging crews period. BA will forever be know in the bay as the 1st crew to do many things, 1st to find spots, do epic permission walls, rock styles that cant be duplicated and with people like “JASE” own the freight lines not just in the bay but for this country. BTM from jump street when adek kerse lewy tron flair once these guys came to the bay they tore San Francisco up. Picking up where TIE rip left off tons of stock cap/kills style throw ups really pushed street bombing to the level... To speak about the bay now I 1st have to talk about the bay then no disrespect to the writers/ crews active now but YOUR NOT SHOWING ME NOTHING NEW.

Omnigraff: What do you think about all these new writers comin up in the game? Begr: I try my best to be kind to the young writers show them respect as DREAM *RIP*, JASE, KING 157, NECSKE NSF, ANGER CBS, BIG 5, APECS, NEON, RENOS, CYME, and more showed me while I was a kid. but 90% of the kids coming up think this shit is like the rap game. They want to beef just to try and gain some sort of fake props. This is writing you want beef go join a gang or a biker/car club or sign up at a mma gym but writing isnt about how hard or how low your levis sag .kids do a few spots and act like there shit dont stink as if decades ago those same spots didnt get painted .anything and everything you can think of has already been done maintian your ego and know that all you are doing is keeping writing alive. 99% of these kids dont last anyway I’ve seen wave after wave come and go .

Omnigraff: What’s the best advice you could give to a new writer? Begr: Stay humble you are not the first and wont be the last. The only way you can survive in this culture is by earning respect and in order to receive that your going to have to show respect. Learn your history not just who writes in your city learn who is who and what is what in the country / world. Writing is bigger than your 5 mile town. Omnigraff: What does it take for a writer to be in your crew? Begr: WGE there is no way in to this crew we dont care how good you are or how much you do. This crew is glued together by an unspoken bond. With that said I don’t think there will be any new members anytime soon.

Omnigraff: What is your future looking like? Begr: NO SET FUTURE more sprays thats for sure. Just finished up my first zine really stoked on that. Been doing alot of art work aside from street work. Who knows, I plan on leaving this country and going back to mine, I love America but I miss my family.

Omnigraff: What was it like painting in the hoods of Detroit ? Begr: I love painting Detroit coming from the west coast it was a breath of fresh air, so much brick and surfaces that I didn’t normally get to spray. The people there are either genuinely friendly or they aint fucking with you, witch I don’t mind one bit ‘cause you don’t have too many people acting. No fake friendlys no fake tough guys. Walking around late at night you don’t see to many people and since I was in and out of there I didn’t want to break my train of spray and let anyone see me doing my thing. No dissrespect to kids who like to spray in front of cars and people fronting thinking that makes you hard but that isn’t going to last in the grand scheme of things stick around 10+ years let those cases rack up we will see how hard you really are.

Omnigraff: Any crazy chase stories? Begr: I was spraying a certain machine after getting it done me and a few friends got camera happy taking epic photo’s basiclly having the time of our lifes . one of us noticed a gaurd in a parking sturucter looking at us . we bail out the way we got in sprinted to the car made it donw the street as cops flew by us Omnigraff: What do you do besides graffiti? Begr: Outside of graffit i’m into cars guns travling food attending events where people dont know i write relaxing just taking advantage of american high society . Omnigraff: Got any beef at the moment? Begr: I don’t have any credable beef at the moment but I do have a few haters out there who love to keep my name in there mouths but to me its just away they can feel relavent about there worthless lifes. SHUT THE FUCK UP AND DO SOMETHING. Omnigraff: Have you ever seen anything weird while out painting? Begr: A ghetto miget just walked by me and REMIO while spraying a throwup in a dead zone... Omnigraff: Do you think you’ll stop one day? Begr: I can’t see myself ever stopping i write for many reasons one of them is to honor friends that have past away that i have met through writing . its away for me to remind people about them or introduce new writers to them . I also belive writing is a lifestyle .i guess thats what seperates people who do graffiti art, vandelism ,hipster art or what ever from the ones who live the life . Omnigraff: Any shoutouts? Begr: like to give a huge shout out to my crews and supporters with out you powering me none of this would be taking place love and respect you all WGE BA NSF WMD OTR DIRTY30’S N4N TWB THR HCM KMV FFP WAI . THE ORIGINAL MTN COLORS . ART PRIMO S.F. all my loved ones who watch over me from above thank you for your blessing each and everyday . to my haters if you read this far you know you secretly love me .

Omnigraff: So when did you start? Cask: 1991, however I really didn’t get involved until 1993. Omnigraff: Who got you into it? Cask: SCOTT FREE-TOPR-LORDS TFL-URBAN ADP-CEIVER & KOSE- I would say CEIVER640 had the biggest influence on me by far. If you lived in the Bay in 91-95 you know what I am talking about! He was King Tut- BART, Freeways, & Heavens- He touched everything. Omnigraff: What Crews are you in? Cask: ADP, 640, HTF, 1810 and HBK. Omnigraff: Do you like bombing any other cities besides Oakland or San Francisco? Cask: Of Course! Omnigraff: Do I have any regrets or doubts about doing graffiti? Cask: I do not have any regrets about anything at all. Everything that we go through in life we are destined to go through to help you build the person that you are to become in this life and that alone builds character. Which is hard to find in people now a days. Omnigraff: Any major writers that influence you? Cask:DONDI-CHAKA-SKEW-TWIST-REMKR-AMAZE-FELON-CEIVER-KOSE-DREAMVOGUE-DONE-TWICK-BUTER-JOR-KEB-SABER-REVOK--MEAR CBS-& AYER LTS RIP Omnigraff: Why do you do it? Cask: Fuck the system and fuck the police! Because they (society & government) say it’s okay to cut a road through a beautiful mountain creating a mark or scar (Tag/Graffiti) from a different aspect. Scarring something more prescious than anything. But you want to gaffle me up over painting on a building that has a 1000 tags on it. Fuck that! Fuck the police! Omnigraff: Do you like bombing or piecing? Cask: When I was doing a piece yesterday, I was like fuck this I could be killing a freeway or bill board! It’s just the way it’s supposed to be, ILLEGAL! IT’S A BIGGER RUSH! Any hipster can sit at home on Instagram or Flickr and spend months sketching out there piece, and go get Montana 94’s on mommy and daddy’s dime, hiding in the cuts and spending all day on their piece! Then they are back on Instagram looking crispy but… can they handle the streets? Hot shit! Task Force, undercovers, grey ghosts, Miller & Loftin, Pimps, Drug Dealers, Psychopaths, tweakers, crack heads, junkies, weirdos, freaks, snitches, murderers, and devils everywhere! Everything from good to bad, so I would say I like to BOMB over piecing!! JUST CUS THE STREETS ARE ALIVE!!!!!!!

Omnigraff: What caused beef between you and that other crew in the bay? Cask: We aint got no beef! We MOBB DEEP! Omnigraff: Do you prefer drinking or being sober while out lurking spots? Cask: In the past I was always high or drunk, but I have realized that you have to go back to your roots. Herb is the healing of all nations! Omnigraff: Was it easy doing graff back when you first started or is it easier now a days? Cask: I come from the era of turf coats and turf hats. If you were down you get your starter hat and coat took. I would say that it is just different, now everyone has a phone with a camera, back then the cops just took you on a ride and beat yo ass or took all yo shit or a hero would try to citizen arrest you! People are different and times are different! Omnigraff: What colors do you like using? Cask: Chrome fill, black outline & Drop Shadow and some popping ass YELLOW!!!!!! Omnigraff: Shout Outs? Cask: GOD, MOM, GARY, AL, PAIWAIAK, LK1, HANSI STATUS, UNCLE AL, GRANDMA, GRANDPA, and JOSEPH D. O’SULLIVAN. SQUAD ADP, KAGE HBK, NAKER HBK, KERSE & PAULY SILVA RIP. URBAN, CEIVE, KOSE, HOTEP, IANER, COST, THIEF, LATAE, NIBS, TEN, BLANK PLAQUE, COLE, DEVOUR, BRASE, BRI, ARMS, TIPS, OBCEST, 2C, RISE, CUPID, DOSK, TRACK, DUNR, TURK, MANI, ANAYA, LILTRACK, HBK, SWER, TOONS, ARTE WIZARD, DECO, DAYSR, ICP, SKEW, TWICK, BUTER, CHIEF, DARE, AXIS BVD, COLE BVD, IBC, RACK, WIRE, ASTRO, GAKS, LOGO, ABOUT, SAFE HTF, & BMAN.
